Olympiacos reached the top of the for the fourth time in its history on Sunday night, defeating Real Madrid 92-85 at Telekom Center Athens.
The Piraeus team, with 19 thousand fans on their side, held their own against their great opponent and in the finale they had the cool blood they needed to lock in the result and reward themselves for their GREAT season.
The highlights of the red and white triumph
First in regular time, with the first scorer, with the first rebounder, with the first in three-pointers, with the first in rating, with a sweep in the playoffs, with a triumph in Athens, with all of which they were deprived of luck in the past.
Evan Fournier, Sasha Vezenkov, Nikola Milutinov, everyone who stepped on the court gave their all, Alec Peters and Cory Joseph were amazing and in the end Olympiacos got what it deserved, what it worked for more than anyone in the last five-six years.

The match
Olympiacos opened the match with its classic five-man lineup, which saw the Madrid team build an eight-point lead (9-1) before the three-minute mark. Bartzokas called a timeout, Real went to +13 (3-15) and that's where Olympiacos' counterattack began, which responded with a 9-0 run. However, it didn't manage anything more. Lyles scored 13 in the first quarter (19-26) and the Spaniards were in control, with just one error.
Real's defense was at a surprisingly high level at the beginning of the second period, when Bartzokas had Joseph Fournier at guard and Ward at three. Olympiacos reduced the deficit from ten to four (25-29 at 13′), Fournier scored six runs for 34-36 at 16′ and from there he hammered the Madrid team who were standing up thanks to the incredible Lyles. The Canadian scored 21 in the first half (!!!), which ended with a basket after an offensive rebound by Peters for 46-44. Olympiacos opened the second half with McKissick at three, the American scored a three-pointer for 49-44, but Hezonja and Abalde kept Real in the match. The Spanish went to +6 (60-54) with an impressive run and with Hezonja leading, the Piraeus team responded with their own 5-0 and with “correct basketball”, the end of the third period found the two finalists within four points (61-65). The fourth opened with a mistake by Fournier, but also with his three-pointer for 64-65 in the 31st minute. Joseph scored another one to overtake (67-65) and from there the match became a rodeo. Vezenkov and Fournier came out ahead and with big baskets they wrote 76-73, before Hezonja scored an even bigger three-pointer for 80-80 in the 38th minute. Jones nailed it for 82-80, Walkup made shots for +4, Real missed a three-pointer with the score at 88-85, Peters made the shots for +5 and the rest went down in history. Olympiacos was the best team of the season.

Στην κορυφή της EuroLeague για τέταρτη φορά στην ιστορία του πάτησε το βράδυ της Κυριακής ο Ολυμπιακός, που νίκησε με 92-85 τη Ρεάλ Μαδρίτης στο Telekom Center Athens.

Ο αγώνας
Με την κλασική του πεντάδα άνοιξε το ματς ο Ολυμπιακός, που είδε τους Μαδριλένους να χτίζουν προβάδισμα οκτώ πόντων (9-1) πριν καν συμπληρωθεί τρίλεπτο. Ο Μπαρτζώκας κάλεσε timeout, η Ρεάλ πήγε στο +13 (3-15) και εκεί ξεκίνησε η αντεπίθεση του Ολυμπιακού που απάντησε με σερί 9-0. Δεν κατάφερε όμως κάτι περισσότερο. Ο Λάιλς έβαλε 13 στο πρώτο δεκάλεπτο (19-26) και οι Ισπανοί είχαν τον έλεγχο, με μόλις ένα λάθος.
Η άμυνα της Ρεάλ ήταν σε εκπληκτικά υψηλό επίπεδο και στις αρχές της δεύτερης περιόδου, όταν ο Μπαρτζώκας είχε Τζόσεφ – Φουρνιέ στα γκαρντ και τον Γουορντ στο τρία. Ο Ολυμπιακός μείωσε από τους δέκα στους τέσσερις (25-29 στο 13′), ο Φουρνιέ έβαλε έξι σερί για το 34-36 στο 16′ και από εκεί και πέρα σφυροκόπησε τους Μαδριλένους που στέκονταν όρθιοι χάρη στον απίθανο Λάιλς. Ο Καναδός έβαλε 21 στο πρώτο μέρος (!!!), το οποίο έκλεισε με καλάθι μετά από επιθετικό ριμπάουντ για το 46-44 ο Πίτερς.
Ο Ολυμπιακός άνοιξε το β’ μέρος με τον ΜακΚίσικ στο τρία, ο Αμερικανός έβαλε τρίποντο για το 49-44, όμως Χεζόνια κι Αμπάλδε κράτησαν τη Ρεάλ στο ματς. Οι Ισπανοί πήγαν στο +6 (60-54) με ένα εντυπωσιακό σερί και με τον Χεζόνια να ηγείται, οι Πειραιώτες απάντησαν με δικό τους 5-0 και με “σωστό μπάσκετ”, το τέλος της τρίτης περιόδου βρήκε τις δύο φιναλίστ σε απόσταση τεσσάρων πόντων (61-65).
Η τέταρτη άνοιξε με λάθος του Φουρνιέ, αλλά και με τρίποντό του για το 64-65 στο 31′. Ο Τζόσεφ έβαλε άλλο ένα για το προσπέρασμα (67-65) και από εκεί και πέρα το ματς έγινε ροντέο. Βεζένκοβ και Φουρνιέ βγήκαν μπροστά και με μεγάλα καλάθια έγραψαν το 76-73, πριν ο Χεζόνια βάλει ακόμη μεγαλύτερο τρίποντο για το 80-80 στο 38′. Ο Τζόουνς κάρφωσε για το 82-80, ο Γουόκαπ έβαλε βολές για το +4, η Ρεάλ αστόχησε σε τρίποντο με το σκορ στο 88-85, ο Πίτερς έβαλε τις βολές για το +5 και τα υπόλοιπα πέρασαν στην ιστορία.
