Tsitsipas - Baena 3-0: Dominant Stefanos advanced to the "32" of Roland Garros (vids)
Stefanos Tsitsipas, playing with patience and maturity where the situation demanded it, finished Karbayes Baena with 3-0 sets (6-3, 7-6, 6-2) and continues in the third round of Paris.
Stefanos Tsitsipas booked a place in the third round of Roland Garros.
Playing maturely from the first point and with few gaps in his performance, he overcame the Spaniard Carbayes Baena with 3-0 sets (6-3, 7-6(4), 6-2) and is waiting in the "32" phase for a by Schwarzman and Borges.
Stefanos had his issues on the serve, as did the Spaniard on the reception, with Tsitsipas finding many points with winners in the match. Even in the second set, when Baena responded with a break to Stefanos' breaks, the Greek tennis player played with patience and limited his mistakes (he had several in the first half of the match, but they didn't cost him) to reach 2-0 via of the tie break.
In the third he was... stormy, starting with two breaks and with a 4-0 lead he quickly ended the match and the qualification to the next phase.
Tsitsipas closed the match with 6 aces, 5 double faults, 77% first serve points won, 29 effortlessly, but also 46 winners against only 18 of his opponent!

Baena started the match perfectly, easily winning the first game on his serve, with Stefanos breaking even with difficulty, mainly due to his instability at the beginning of the game on his serve.
Immediately after, he found the first break point in the match and did not let it go to waste, as with a good return to Baena's serve, he forced the Spaniard into an error on the second hit.
Soon after it was Baena who had a break point, with Tsitsipas saving it very narrowly with a diagonal pass that found the sideline. Finally, with two bad returns from the Spaniard (he clearly had a problem in this area for most of the match), it was 3-1.
Baena serving excellently, reduced to 3-2. 4-2 came easily for the world No5 as the Spaniard struggled to return balls, but managed to cut it to 4-3 with a love service game.
With a smash and a volley, Stefanos reached 5-3 without any particular problems, to close the set immediately after two more effortless mistakes by Baena.
"Dance" of the breaks, with Tsitsipas winning the tie break
From 0-30 Stefanos found a rhythm on his serve and took 4 consecutive points to make it 1-0 in the second set. With a little bit of luck (and a bad forehand from Stefanos) Baena held his serve, but Stefanos, despite his flurry of shots, maintained the lead thanks to his serve and a drop shot at the end of the third game.

Immediately after, Stefanos found three break opportunities and in the third he took Baena on a big rally, forcing him into an error for 3-1.

However, a very bad game by Stefanos brought the reduction to 3-2. At 30-30, he misjudged, considering that his opponent's shot ended up outside the baseline (the referee came down and correctly gave the shot in), to follow a double fault on the serve and thus Baena got back the break.
Tsitsipas's reaction was immediate and he broke again, pressing the Spaniard on the baseline, but his mistakes resulted in the fourth consecutive game with a break.
Both then held serve, with Stefanos leading 5-4 and Baena serving to stay in the set. The Spaniard equalized with a love game, but just as easily Tsitsipas forced his opponent to serve again to stay in the set.
He did it easily, narrowing the set to the tie break with a second love game. In the tie break, Tsitsipas found two mini breaks and went to the change leading 4-2. With an ace he reached triple set point (6-3) and finally ended the tie break with 7-4 from a missed forehand by his opponent.

Stormy Tsitsipas and qualification to the "32"
Determined not to get into trouble again like he did in the first round, Tsitsipas entered the third set very strongly.
He broke his opponent's serve and easily reached 2-0, only to find a break point again with a winner, after... running up and down the Spanish tennis player.
His lob was marginally out afterwards, while he found another break point which this time he took advantage of and with a volley on the small diagonal he reached 3-0 and with his own serve afterwards.
4-0 came easily for the Greek tennis player, with Baena breaking even with difficulty, reducing to 4-1. 5-1 came easily for Tsitsipas, with Baena cutting to 5-2, but unable to find the break he was looking for in the follow-up, and Stefanos booked a place in the third round in Paris.

Ο Στέφανος Τσιτσιπάς έκλεισε θέση στον τρίτο γύρο του Roland Garros.
Παίζοντας ώριμα από τον πρώτο πόντο και με ελάχιστα κενά στην απόδοσή του, επικράτησε του Ισπανού Καρμπάγιες Μπαένα με 3-0 σετ (6-3, 7-6(4), 6-2) και περιμένει στην φάση των «32» έναν εκ των Σβάρτσμαν και Μπόργκες.
Ο Στέφανος είχε τα... θεματάκια του στο σερβίς, όπως και ο Ισπανός στην υποδοχή, με τον Τσιτσιπά να βρίσκει ωστόσο πολλούς πόντους με winners στο ματς. Ακόμη και στο δεύτερο σετ που ο Μπαένα απαντούσε με break στα break του Στέφανου, ο Ελληνας τενίστας έπαιζε με υπομονή και περιόρισε τα λάθη του (είχε αρκετά στο πρώτο μισό του ματς, που ωστόσο δεν του στοίχησαν) για να φτάσει στο 2-0 μέσω του tie break.
Στο τρίτο ήταν... καταιγιστικός, ξεκινώντας με δύο break και με προβάδισμα 4-0 τελείωσε γρήγορα το ματς και την πρόκριση στην επόμενη φάση.
Ο Τσιτσιπάς έκλεισε το ματς με 6 άσους, 5 διπλά λάθη, 77% κερδισμένους πόντους σε πρώτο σερβίς, 29 αβίαστα, αλλά και 46 winners έναντι μόλις 18 του αντιπάλου του!

Ο Μπαένα ξεκίνησε ιδανικά το ματς, κερδίζοντας εύκολα στο σερβίς του το πρώτο game, με τον Στέφανο να ισοφαρίζει με δυσκολία, κυρίως λόγω της αστάθειάς του στην αρχή του game στο σερβίς του.
Αμέσως μετά βρήκε το πρώτο break point στο ματς και δεν το άφησε να πάει χαμένο, καθώς με μία καλή επιστροφή στο σερβίς του Μπαένα, ανάγκασε σε λάθος τον Ισπανό στο δεύτερο χτύπημα.
Αμέσως μετά ο Μπαένα ήταν αυτός που είχε break point, με τον Τσιτσιπά να το σώζει πολύ οριακά με ένα πέρασμα στη διαγώνιο που βρήκε την πλάγια γραμμή. Τελικά, με δύο κακές επιστροφές του Ισπανού (είχε φανερά πρόβλημα στον τομέα αυτό στο μεγαλύτερο μέρος του ματς), ήρθε το 3-1.
Ο Μπαένα σερβίροντας εξαιρετικά, μείωσε σε 3-2. Το 4-2 ήρθε εύκολα για το Νο5 του κόσμου καθώς ο Ισπανός ζοριζόταν να επιστρέψει μπάλες, αλλά κατάφερε να μειώσει σε 4-3 με love service game.
Με ένα σμας και ένα βολέ ο Στέφανος έφτασε στο 5-3 χωρίς ιδιαίτερα προβλήματα, για να κλείσει αμέσως μετά το σετ από δύο ακόμη αβίαστα λάθη του Μπαένα.
«Χορός» των break, με κερδισμένο τον Τσιτσιπά στο tie break
Από 0-30 ο Στέφανος βρήκε ρυθμό στο σερβίς του και πήρε 4 συνεχόμενους πόντους για να κάνει το 1-0 στο δεύτερο σετ. Με λίγη δόση τύχης (και ένα κακό φόρχαντ του Στέφανου) ο Μπαένα κράτησε το σερβίς του, αλλά ο Στέφανος παρά τα βεβιασμένα χτυπήματά του, διατήρησε το προβάδισμα χάρη στο σερβίς του και ένα drop shot στο τέλος του τρίτου game.

Αμέσως μετά ο Στέφανος βρήκε τρεις ευκαιρίες για break και στην τρίτη πήγε τον Μπαένα σε ένα μεγάλο ράλι, αναγκάζοντάς τον σε λάθος για το 3-1.

Ομως, ένα πολύ κακό game από τον Στέφανο έφερε την μείωση σε 3-2. Στο 30-30 έκανε λάθος εκτίμηση θεωρώντας πως το χτύπημα του αντιπάλου του κατέληξε εκτός βασικής γραμμής (η διαιτητής κατεβηκε και σωστά έδωσε μέσα το χτύπημα), για να ακολουθήσει ένα διπλό λάθος στο σερβίς και έτσι ο Μπαένα πήρε πίσω το break.
Η αντίδραση του Τσιτσιπά ήταν άμεση και έκανε ξανά break πιέζοντας τον Ισπανό στην βασική γραμμή, όμως από τα λάθη του ακολούθησε το τέταρτο σερί game με break.
Αμφότεροι κράτησαν στη συνέχεια το σερβίς τους, με τον Στέφανο να είναι μπροστά με 5-4 και τον Μπαένα να σερβίρει για να μείνει στο σετ. Ο Ισπανός με love game ισοφάρισε, όμως εξίσου εύκολα ο Τσιτσιπάς ανάγκασε τον αντίπαλό του να πάει ξανά να σερβίρει για να μείνει στο σετ.
Το έκανε εύκολα, στένοντας το σετ στο tie break με δεύτερο love game. Στο tie break βρήκε δύο μίνι break o Τσιτσιπάς που πήγε στο change προηγούμενος με 4-2. Με άσο έφτασε σε τριπλό set point (6-3) και τελείωσε τελικά το tie break με 7-4 από ένα χαμένο φόρχαντ του αντιπάλου του.

Καταιγιστικός Τσιτσιπάς και πρόκριση στους «32»
Αποφασισμένος να μην μπει πάλι σε μπελάδες όπως στον πρώτο γύρο, ο Τσιτσιπάς μπήκε πολύ δυναμικά στο τρίτο σετ.
Εσπασε το σερβίς του αντιπάλου του και έφτασε εύκολα στο 2-0, για να βρει πάλι break point από winner, αφού… έτρεχε πάνω κάτω τον Ισπανό τενίστα.
Η λόμπα του ήταν οριακά έξω στη συνέχεια, ενώ βρήκε κι άλλο break point το οποίο αυτή τη φορά εκμεταλλεύτηκε και με βολέ στη μικρή διαγώνιο έφτασε στο 3-0 και με δικό του σερβίς στη συνέχεια.
Το 4-0 ήρθε εύκολα για τον Ελληνα τενίστα, με τον Μπαένα έστω και δύσκολα, να σπάει το ρόδι, μειώνοντας σε 4-1. Το 5-1 ήρθε εύκολα για τον Τσιτσιπά, με τον Μπαένα να μειώνει σε 5-2, αλλά να μην βρίσκει το break που έψαχνε στη συνέχεια και ο Στέφανος έκλεισε θέση για τον τρίτο γύρο στο Παρίσι.
