Με εντυπωσιακή εμφάνιση στο πρώτο ημίχρονο και παίζοντας εξαιρετική άμυνα, η Μπαρτσελόνα πήρε το clasico της 5ης αγωνιστικής της Ευρωλίγκας, 79-72 τη Ρεάλ Μαδρίτης, παρότι αγωνίστηκε τον Νίκολα Μίροτιτς.

Πρωταγωνιστές για την ομάδα του Γιασικεβίτσιους οι Ντέιβις (14 πόντοι), Κούριτς (15 πόντοι), Χίγκινς (13 πόντοι) και ο νεαρός Μαρτίνεθ (7 πόντοι, 9 ριμπάουντ). Στο 4-1 ανέβηκαν οι Καταλανοί, που ισοβαθμούν με Ζαλγκίρις και Μπάγερν Μονάχου στην κορυφή της βαθμολογίας.

Το δεύτερο δεκάλεπτο ωστόσο ήταν... παράσταση για ένα ρόλο, με τους γηπεδούχους να κυριαρχούν απόλυτα και στις δύο άκρες του παρκέ. Με μπροστάρη τον Κούριτς, που εκτελούσε από... παντού, οι Καταλανοί μετέτρεψαν το 25-21 (12’) σε 46-25 (18’), ενώ το ημίχρονο ολοκληρώθηκε με το σκορ στο 48-27 και τη «βασίλισσα» να έχει 10/31 εντός παιδιάς!

Στην τρίτη περίοδο, οι φιλοξενούμενοι βελτίωσαν αισθητά την απόδοσή τους, κυρίως μέσα από την άμυνα. Με επιμέρους σκορ 12-4, οι Μαδριλένοι μείωσαν από το -23 (σ.σ. η μεγαλύτερη διαφορά στο ματς) στο -15 (54-39) σε διάστημα 4 λεπτών και ξαναμπήκαν στο παιχνίδι.

Ντέιβις και Κούριτς συνέχισαν το... κρεσέντο τους και κουβάλησαν στις πλάτες τους την Μπαρτσελόνα, η οποία έκλεισε το τρίτο δεκάλεπτο έχοντας διψήφια διαφορά (64-52).

Στο τέταρτο δεκάλεπτο, η Ρεάλ μπήκε... φουριόζα με στόχο μια επική αντεπίθεση, ενώ έριξε τη διαφορά κάτω από τους 10 πόντους (64-56 στο 32’). Από την άλλη, οι Καταλανοί απάντησαν με σερί 6-0 και ξέφυγαν εκ νέου (70-56 στο 34’).

Με τον Γιουλ να παίρνει μπρος επιθετικά και τον Τόμπκινς να δίνει πολύτιμες λύσεις, η ομάδα του Λάσο έτρεξε επιμέρους 9-2 και πλησίασε στο -7 (72-65 στο 37’)! Μάλιστα, έφτασε μέχρι και το -5 (74-69 στο 38’), ωστόσο στο φινάλε οι γηπεδούχοι διατήρησαν την ψυχραιμία τους κι έφτασαν στο τελικό 79-72.
