Noskova survived the shock and became the champion at Wimbledon

Linda Noskova lost five championship points in the 2nd set against Karolina Muchova, but kept her composure and won the Wimbledon title with a score of 6-2, 5-7, 6-3.

The Czech women's singles final at Wimbledon was going for a... dull victory for Linda Noskova over Karolina Muchova, but it offered emotions.

Noskova led 6-2, 5-2 but Muchova saved five championship points, in the 2nd set, she achieved the upset with a score of 7-5, but in the 3rd set Noskova maintained her composure and with a score of 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 she reached the top success of her career.

The twenty-one-year-old Noskova thus became the fifth player from the Czech Republic and the third in the last three years to win the Wimbledon title.

The beginning in the Open Era, that is, from 1968 onwards, was made by Jana Novotna in 1998, followed by Petra Kvitova with the titles in 2011 and 2014, Marketa Vodrusova in 2023 and Barbora Krejcikova in 2024.

There is also the legendary Martina Navratilova with the eight Wimbledon titles from 1978 to 1990, but she achieved them having changed her citizenship in 1975 and representing the United States.

Mukhova, having survived the 2nd set, initially saved three championship points in the 8th game and one each in the 9th and 10th, five in total, the most in a Grand Slam final, but did not exploit the psychological advantage.

Noskova led 3-0 in the 3rd set, reached 5-2 and this time made no mistake, reaching 6-3 in two hours and 28 minutes and the first Grand Slam title in her career. At the age of twenty-one years and six months, she became the youngest Wimbledon champion in the last 15 years and since compatriot Petra Kvitova won for the first time in 2011.

In parallel, Noskova will be ranked No. 7 in the world from Monday (13/7), one place behind Karolina Muchova, a career record for both Czechs.

Η Λίντα Νόσκοβα έχασε πέντε championship points στο 2ο σετ απέναντι στην Καρολίνα Μούχοβα, όμως διατήρησε την ψυχραιμία της και με 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 κατέκτησε τον τίτλο στο Wimbledon.

Ο τσεχικός τελικός του απλού γυναικών στο Wimbledon πήγαινε για μια... σβηστή επικράτηση της Λίντα Νόσκοβα επί της Καρολίνα Μούχοβα, όμως προσέφερε συγκινήσεις.

Η Νόσκοβα προηγήθηκε με 6-2, 5-2 όμως η Μούχοβα έσωσε πέντε championship points, στο 2ο σετ, πέτυχε την ανατροπή με 7-5, όμως στο 3ο σετ η Νόσκοβα διατήρησε την αυτοκυριαρχία της και με 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 έφθασε στην κορυφαία επιτυχία της καριέρας της.

Η είκοσι ενός ετών Νόσκοβα με αυτόν τον τρόπο έγινε η 5η παίκτρια από την Τσεχία και η 3η στα τελευταία τρία χρόνια που κατακτά τον τίτλο στο Wimbledon.

Tην αρχή στην Open Era, δηλαδή από το 1968 κι έπειτα, έκανε η Γιάνα Νοβότνα το 1998, ακολούθησαν η Πέτρα Κβίτοβα με τους τίτλους το 2011 και το 2014, η Μαρκέτα Βοντρούσοβα το 2023 και η Μπάρμπορα Κρεϊτσίκοβα το 2024.

Yπάρχει και η θρυλική Μαρτίνα Ναβρατίλοβα με τους οκτώ τίτλους στο Wimbledon από το 1978 μέχρι το 1990, όμως έφθασε σε αυτούς έχοντας αλλάξει υπηκοότητα από το 1975 κι εκπροσωπώντας τις ΗΠΑ.

H Moύχοβα έχοντας μείνει ζωντανή στο 2ο σετ, εκεί όπου έσωσε αρχικά τρία championship points στο 8ο game κι από ένα στο 9ο και στο 10ο, πέντε στο σύνολο, τους περισσότερους σε τελικό Grand Slam, όμως δεν εκμεταλλεύτηκε το ψυχολογικό αβαντάζ.

Η Νόσκοβα προηγήθηκε 3-0 στο 3ο σετ, έφθασε στο 5-2 κι αυτή τη φορά δεν λάθεψε, έφθασε στο 6-3 σε δύο ώρες και 28 λεπτά και στον πρώτο Grand Slam τίτλο στην καριέρα της. Σε ηλικία είκοσι ενός ετών και έξι μηνών, έγινε η νεαρότερη πρωταθλήτρια στο Wimbledon τα τελευταία 15 χρόνια κι από την πρώτη κατάκτηση της συμπατριώτισσάς Πέτρα Κβίτοβα το 2011.

Παράλληλα, η Νόσκοβα από τη Δευτέρα (13/7) θα φιγουράρει στο Νο.7 της παγκόσμιας κατάταξης, μια θέση πίσω από την Καρολίνα Μούχοβα, σε ρεκόρ καριέρας και για τις δύο Τσέχες.
