The Greek National Youth Team upset Serbia with an incredible second half and advanced to the EuroBasket “8”!

Performing an amazing second half in defense and offense, the Greek National Youth Team overthrew Serbia and with a score of 78-77 celebrated a great qualification to the quarterfinals of the EuroBasket U18!

On Wednesday night (29/07) our National Team put on an excellent performance at the “Marchetti Sports Hall” in Italy as they defeated Serbia with a score of 78-77 in the knockout stages of the competition and celebrated a great qualification to the quarterfinals of the event!

Despite the fact that our country's representative team was chasing the score for most of the match, however, Giorgos Skropolithas' players, with soul and selflessness, turned the situation around and got their ticket to the next phase of the U18 EuroBasket!

The top player with a tremendous contribution in the fourth quarter was Chrysostomos Hatzilambros, who finished the game with 21 points and 8 rebounds. Valuable solutions were also provided by Dimitris Poulos (16pts, 4reps), Vassilis Chartonas (11pts, 5reps) and Alexandros Thomakos (11pts, 8reps), in a match where no one was behind!

Now, the National Youth Team will wait to find out its opponent in the quarterfinals, which will be determined by the match between Spain and Bulgaria.

The match:

With its excellent defense as an "ally", our National Team entered the game very dynamically and led 5-2 in the first three minutes of the match. However, an offensive "blackout" by our internationals allowed Serbia to take control of the rhythm and with consecutive baskets to lead 11-7 shortly afterwards. With Bazoulas, Chartonas and Haidemeno giving our team an offensive "breath", Greece reduced the lead (15-13) in the 8th minute, before the Serbs, with an unanswered seven-point run, closed the first quarter with a 22-13 advantage.

At the beginning of the second period, thanks to the beautiful actions of Bilionis and Poulos, the team of Giorgos Skropolithas reduced the difference to the minimum value (24-23) in the 14th minute. However, the typical home team still found a way to maintain the upper hand in the score, going into the locker room ahead by 38-30.

The short break seemed to work beneficially for the representative group of our country, which took the court for the second half with... wild moods! With polyphony in the attack and with five consecutive three-pointers from Hatzilambros (2), Chartonas and Poulos (2), Greece went ahead with a score of 58-52 in the 28th minute! However, a "dead period" in the last period of the third quarter, allowed Serbia to close the period with a 60-58 advantage.

The difference reached +5 at the start of the fourth and final quarter (64-59), with the National Youth Team not giving up, but reacting with passion and soul! And this is because, at that point in time, Hadjilambro came forward and with seven personal points, gave the "blue and white" the lead for 64-68 in the 34th minute, with Chartonas "imitating" him and writing +7 for 73-67, three minutes later! Slowly entering the finale of the match, Greece entered the last minute with a 77-71 lead, withstanding the Serbian counterattack and celebrating a huge victory with the final 78-77!

Πραγματοποιώντας ένα εκπληκτικό δεύτερο ημίχρονο σε άμυνα και επίθεση, η Εθνική Εφήβων ανέτρεψε τη Σερβία και με σκορ 78-77 πανηγύρισε σπουδαία πρόκριση στα προημιτελικά του Ευρωμπάσκετ U18!

Το βράδυ της Τετάρτης (29/07) η Εθνική μας ομάδα πραγματοποίησε μια εξαιρετική εμφάνιση στο «Marchetti Sports Hall» της Ιταλίας καθώς λύγισαν τη Σερβία με σκορ 78-77 στα νοκ άουτ της διοργάνωσης και πανηγύρισαν μια σπουδαία πρόκριση στα προημιτελικά του θεσμού!

Παρά το γεγονός πως το αντιπροσωπευτικό συγκρότημα της χώρας μας βρέθηκε να κυνηγά στο σκορ στο μεγαλύτερο διάστημα του αγώνα, εντούτοις, οι παίκτες του Γιώργου Σκροπολίθα με ψυχή και αυταπάρνηση, γύρισαν την κατάσταση και πήραν το εισιτήριο για την επόμενη φάση του Ευρωμπάσκετ U18!

Κορυφαίος όλων με τρομερή συνεισφορά στο τέταρτο δεκάλεπτο ήταν ο Χρυσόστομος Χατζηλάμπρου, ο οποίος τελείωσε το παιχνίδι με 21 πόντους και 8 ριμπάουντ. Πολύτιμες λύσεις προσέφεραν ακόμη οι Δημήτρης Πούλος (16π., 4ρ.), Βασίλης Χαρτώνας (11π., 5ρ.) και Αλέξανδρος Θωμάκος (11π., 8ρ.), σε μια αναμέτρηση όπου δεν υστέρησε κανείς!

Πλέον, η Εθνική Εφήβων θα περιμένει να μάθει τον αντίπαλό της στην οκτάδα, ο οποίος και θα προκύψει από την αναμέτρηση Ισπανία -Βουλγαρία.

Το ματς:

Με «σύμμαχο» την εξαιρετική της άμυνα, η Εθνική μας ομάδα μπήκε πολύ δυναμικά στο παιχνίδι και προηγήθηκε με 5-2 στο πρώτο τρίλεπτο της αναμέτρησης. Ωστόσο, ένα επιθετικό «μπλαουκ άουτ» των διεθνών μας, επέτρεψε στη Σερβία να πάρει τον έλεγχο του ρυθμού και με διαδοχικά καλάθια να προηγηθεί με 11-7 λίγο αργότερα. Με τους Μπαζούλα, Χαρτώνα και Χαϊδεμένο να δίνουν επιθετική «πνοή» στην ομάδα μας, η Ελλάδα μείωσε στο καλάθι (15-13) στο 8ο λεπτό, προτού οι Σέρβοι με ένα αναπάντητο σερί επτά πόντων, κλείσουν το πρώτο δεκάλεπτο με το υπέρ τους 22-13.

Στις αρχές της δεύτερης περιόδου, χάρη στις όμορφες ενέργειες των Μπιλιώνη και Πούλου, η ομάδα του Γιώργου Σκροπολίθα μείωσε τη διαφορά στην ελάχιστη τιμή (24-23) στο 14ο λεπτό. Και πάλι όμως οι τυπικά γηπεδούχοι βρήκαν τον τρόπο να διατηρήσουν το πάνω χέρι στο σκορ, πηγαίνοντας στα αποδυτήρια μπροστά με 38-30.

Η ολιγόλεπτη διακοπή φάνηκε πως λειτούργησε ευεργετικά για το αντιπροσωπευτικό συγκρότημα της χώρας μας, το οποίο βγήκε στο παρκέ για το δεύτερο ημίχρονο με... άγριες διαθέσεις! Με πολυφωνία στην επίθεση και με πέντε σερί τρίποντα από τους Χατζηλάμπρου (2), Χαρτώνα και Πούλο (2), η Ελλάδα πέρασε μπροστά με σκορ 58-52 στο 28ο λεπτό! Ωστόσο, ένα «νεκρό διάστημα» στο τελευταίο διάστημα του τρίτου δεκαλέπτου, έδωσε τη δυνατότητα στη Σερβία να κλείσει την περίοδο με το υπέρ της 60-58.

Η διαφορά έφτασε στο +5 στο ξεκίνημα του τέταρτου και τελευταίου δεκαλέπτου (64-59), με την Εθνική Εφήβων να μην λυγίζει, αλλά να αντιδρά με πάθος και ψυχή! Και αυτό διότι, σε εκείνο το χρονικό σημείο, ο Χατζηλάμπρου βγήκε μπροστά και με επτά προσωπικούς πόντους, έδωσε το «γαλανόλευκο» προβάδισμα για το 64-68 στο 34ο λεπτό, με τον Χαρτώνα να τον «μιμείται» και να γράφει το +7 για το 73-67, τρία λεπτά αργότερα! Μπαίνοντας σιγά-σιγά στο φινάλε του ματς, η Ελλάδα μπήκε στο τελευταίο λεπτό με το υπέρ της 77-71, αντέχοντας στην αντεπίθεση των Σέρβων και πανηγυρίζοντας μια τεράστια νίκη με το τελικό 78-77!
