The defense of the title in Charleston continues with Danielle Collins, who won in straight sets (7-5, 6-3) over Jelena Ostapenko in the "16" phase of the tournament and sealed her ticket to the quarterfinals.

A match in which the American tennis player presented two... faces, as in the first set she struggled quite a bit against her opponent. More specifically, at the beginning of the match she received a break from Ostapenko (2-1), which she extinguished in the eighth game (4-4) without success.

The second set was more... comfortable for the title holder at the Charleston tournament. Although she was again the first to receive the break for 3-2 in the games, the answer was immediate and with four consecutive games won she made it 6-3 and doubled her sets, taking the victory and at the same time qualifying for the quarterfinals.

There, Collins will face the winner of the match between Jessica Pegula and Aila Tomljanovic.

Navarro needed three sets

Along with Danielle Collins, her compatriot Emma Navarro will also be in the quarterfinals. The world No. 11 won the match against Ashlyn Kruger 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 in a match that lasted two hours and ten minutes.

Τη νίκη στον τρίτο γύρο του τουρνουά στο Τσάρλεστον πήρε η Ντανιέλ Κόλινς με σκορ 7-5, 6-3 κόντρα στην Γελένα Οσταπένκο και προκρίθηκε στα προημιτελικά της αμερικανικής διοργάνωσης.

Η υπεράσπιση του τίτλου στο Τσάρλεστον συνεχίζεται από την Ντανιέλ Κόλινς, η οποία πήρε νίκη straight sets (7-5, 6-3) επί της Γελένα Οσταπένκο στη φάση των "16" του τουρνουά και σφράγισε το εισιτήριο για τα προημιτελικά.

Ένα ματς στο οποίο η Αμερικανίδα τενίστρια παρουσίασε δύο... πρόσωπα, καθώς στο πρώτο σετ δυσκολεύτηκε αρκετά κόντρα στην αντίπαλό της. Πιο συγκεκριμένα, στην αρχή του αγώνα δέχθηκε break από την Οσταπένκο (2-1), το οποίο έσβησε στο όγδοο game (4-4) χωρίς επιτυχία.

Η Νο.25 του κόσμου... έσπασε ξανά το σερβίς της Κόλινς, με την Νο.22 να βρίσκει εκ νέου λύση (5-5) και στη συνέχεια να κρατάει το σερβίς της για το προβάδισμα (6-5). Σε αντίθεση με την Αμερικανίδα, η Οσταπένκο δεν κατάφερε να διαχειριστεί το γεγονός ότι η αντίπαλός της ήταν ένα game μακριά από την κατάκτηση του σετ, δεχόμενη νέο break για το 7-5.

Το δεύτερο σετ ήταν πιο... άνετο για την κάτοχο του τίτλου στο τουρνουά του Τσάρλεστον. Αν και δέχθηκε πάλι πρώτη το break για το 3-2 στα games, η απάντησή ήταν άμεση και με τέσσερα σερί κερδισμένα games έκανε το 6-3 και διπλασίασε τα σετ της, παίρνοντας τη νίκη και παράλληλα την πρόκριση στα προημιτελικά.

Εκεί, η Κόλινς θα βρεθεί αντιμέτωπη με τη νικήτρια της αναμέτρησης ανάμεσα στις Τζέσικα Πεγκούλα και Άιλα Τομλιάνοβιτς.

Τρία σετ χρειάστηκε η Ναβάρο

Μαζί με την Ντανιέλ Κόλινς, στα προημιτελικά θα βρίσκεται και η συμπατριώτισσά της Έμμα Ναβάρο. Η Νο.11 του κόσμου πήρε τη νίκη επί της Άσλιν Κρούγκερ με 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 σε μία αναμέτρηση δύο ωρών και δέκα λεπτών.

Η Ναβάρο χρειάστηκε να βρεθεί πίσω στα σετ για ν' ανεβάσει την απόδοσή της. Η 23χρονη βρέθηκε πίσω στο σκορ με 6-4, βρίσκοντας άμεση απάντηση με το ίδιο σκορ για να στείλει το ματς σε decider set. Εκεί, η Αμερικανίδα ήταν κυριαρχική και με τρία break έναντι ενός έκανε το 6-2 και πήρε την πρόκριση στην 8άδα του τουρνουά.

Στα προημιτελικά η Έμμα Ναβάρο θ' αντιμετωπίσει την Αμάντα Ανισίμοβα, η οποία πήρε τη νίκη επί της Γιούλια Πουτίντσεβα με 6-4, 6-4.
