This time, Real Madrid was superior overall in the forty minutes. They defeated Olympiacos 80-72, reducing it to 1-2 in the EuroLeague playoffs series and gave it a follow-up, on Thursday night (1/5) in Madrid.

From the walk in Game 1, to the battle in Game 2 and from there, to a tough match on Tuesday night (29/4) in Madrid. Real Madrid and Olympiacos gave it their all at the Movistar Arena, with the Spaniards taking the victory (80-72) to reduce it to 1-2 in the EuroLeague playoffs series.

Janan Musa and Mario Hezonja made the difference, at different points in the match, Eddie Tavares was invincible near the basket, this time Chus Mateo took a lot from many, even from Garuba, Abalde, Yul who each played their role.

Nigel Williams-Goss in the first half and Sasha Vezenkov in the second half were the leaders of Olympiacos, which is the good team of the series and must prove it on Thursday night (1/5) to avoid returning to SEF for the psychologically damaging fifth match.

MVP

Musa, Hezonja, Tavares did a great job. All three deserve the Most Valuable Player award, in the third consecutive lukewarm performance of Facundo Campasso. The 9-5-6 of Albero Abalde, who had just one error in 27 minutes, was also amazing.

The statistics that stood out

Real closed the first quarter with 4/4 three-pointers, Olympiacos had seven assists for two errors. The Madrid team executed just seven three-pointers in the first twenty minutes, while Piraeus counted 13/22 and 14 assists for four errors. At the end of the evening, Real won with six three-pointers, while Olympiacos had just seven. 17-9 points from second chances.

The match

With Williams-Goss, Vildosa, Papanikolaou, Vezenkov, Fall, Olympiacos opened the match, which did not enter the match ideally, but was calm. Moussa and Tavares had 15 points out of their team's 18 until the first timeout (18-13 at 6′), but the Piraeus team, which was not effective in defense, followed in the attack for 24-21 towards the end of the period in which the home team found a small 4-0 for +7 (28-21).

Olympiacos balanced the match at the beginning of the second, with Lee nailing for 30-27 and the Madrid team now scoring with the drop meter. The crowd pressured the referees, Williams-Goss reduced the lead to a point with shots (30-29), made another one to overtake (30-31 in 14′) and reached 15 with a steal and a surprise scoring for 36-37 when Real had gained momentum. What followed? A three-guard formation and Wright’s dunks, until 38-44 at halftime.

The Madrid team increased the pressure on the ball at the start of the second half, with Bartzoka calling a timeout after 2:39 to help his players better read the situation. Vezenkov made a huge three-pointer for 46-49 in 24′, Lee another one from the corner, but the match was really balanced and the baskets seemed much smaller. The 58-56 score in the third really excited the crowd, but the game still had a long way to go.

Real stepped on the gas at the beginning of the fourth, took advantage of bad decisions by Vildosa and escaped to +7 (67-60 at 33′), with Peters and Vezenkov each having an unsuccessful attempt before Ibaka wrote 72-62 at 36′. What followed? Bad decisions by the home team, a goal-foul by Vezenkov, his own three-pointer for 72-68 at 37′ and a timeout by Mateo. Lee reduced the deficit to the basket (72-70) with shots and Campasso wrote 76-70 with shots, to decide the game with 44″ before the final.

Αυτή τη φορά, η Ρεάλ ήταν ανώτερη συνολικά στο σαραντάλεπτο. Νίκησε με 80-72 τον Ολυμπιακό, μείωσε στο 1-2 στη σειρά των playoffs της EuroLeague και της έδωσε συνέχεια, το βράδυ της Πέμπτης (1/5) στη Μαδρίτη.

Από τον περίπατο στο Game 1, στη μάχη στο Game 2 και από εκεί, σε σκληρό ματς το βράδυ της Τρίτης (29/4) στη Μαδρίτη. Ρεάλ και Ολυμπιακός τα έδωσαν όλα στη Movistar Arena, με τους Ισπανούς να παίρνουν την νίκη (80-72) για να μειώσουν στο 1-2 στη σειρά των playoffs της EuroLeague.

Τζάναν Μούσα και Μάριο Χεζόνια έκαναν τη διαφορά, σε διαφορετικά σημεία του αγώνα, ο Έντι Ταβάρες ήταν ανίκητος κοντά στο καλάθι, αυτή τη φορά ο Τσους Ματέο πήρε πολλά από πολλούς, ακόμη και από τους Γκαρούμπα, Αμπάλδε, Γιουλ που έπαιξαν ο κάθε ένας τον ρόλο του.

Νάιτζελ Γουίλιαμς-Γκος στο πρώτο και Σάσα Βεζένκοβ στο δεύτερο μέρος ήταν οι κορυφαίοι του Ολυμπιακού, που είναι η καλή ομάδα της σειράς και πρέπει να το αποδείξει το βράδυ της Πέμπτης (1/5) για να μη γυρίσει στο ΣΕΦ για το ψυχοφθόρο πέμπτο ματς.

Ο MVP

Μούσα, Χεζόνια, Ταβάρες έκαναν σπουδαία δουλειά. Αξίζουν και οι τρεις το βραβείο του πολυτιμότερου παίκτη, στην τρίτη σερί χλιαρή εμφάνιση του Φακούντο Καμπάσο. Εκπληκτικό και το 9-5-6 του Αλμπέρο Αμπάλδε, ο οποίος είχε μόλις ένα λάθος σε 27 λεπτά.

Τα στατιστικά που ξεχώρισαν

Με 4/4 τρίποντα έκλεισε το πρώτο δεκάλεπτο η Ρεάλ, επτά ασίστ για δύο λάθη είχε ο Ολυμπιακός. Οι Μαδριλένοι εκτέλεσαν μόλις επτά τρίποντα στο πρώτο εικοσάλεπτο, την ώρα που οι Πειραιώτες μετρούσαν 13/22 και 14 ασίστ για τέσσερα λάθη. Στο τέλος της βραδιάς η Ρεάλ νίκησε με έξι τρίποντα, την ώρα που ο Ολυμπιακός είχε μόλις επτά. 17-9 οι πόντοι από δεύτερες ευκαιρίες.

Ο αγώνας

Με Γουίλιαμς-Γκος, Βιλντόσα, Παπανικολάου, Βεζένκοβ, Φαλ άνοιξε το ματς ο Ολυμπιακός, που δεν μπήκε ιδανικά στον αγώνα, αλλά είχε ψυχραιμία. Μούσα και Ταβάρες είχαν 15 πόντους από τους 18 της ομάδας τους μέχρι το πρώτο timeout (18-13 στο 6′), όμως οι Πειραιώτες, που δεν ήταν αποτελεσματικοί στην άμυνα, ακολούθησαν στην επίθεση για το 24-21 προς το φινάλε της περιόδου στο οποίο οι γηπεδούχοι βρήκαν ένα μικρό 4-0 για το +7 (28-21).

Ο Ολυμπιακός ισορρόπησε το ματς στο ξεκίνημα της δεύτερης, με τον Λι να καρφώνει για το 30-27 και τους Μαδριλένους να σκοράρουν πλέον με το σταγονόμετρο. Ο κόσμος πίεσε τους διαιτητές, ο Γουίλιαμς-Γκος μείωσε στον πόντο με βολές (30-29), έβαλε άλλη μία για το προσπέρασμα (30-31 στο 14′) και έφτασε τους 15 με κλέψιμο και σκοράρισμα στον αιφνιδιασμό για το 36-37 όταν η Ρεάλ είχε πάρει το μομέντουμ. Τι ακολούθησε; Σχήμα με τρία γκαρντ και καρφώματα του Ράιτ, μέχρι το 38-44 του ημιχρόνου.

Οι Μαδριλένοι εύξησαν την πίεση στη μπάλα στην έναρξη του β’ μέρους, με τον Μπαρτζώκα να καλεί timeout μετά από 2:39 για να βοηθήσει τους παίκτες του να διαβάσουν καλύτερα την κατάσταση. Ο Βεζένκοβ έβαλε τεράστιο τρίποντο για το 46-49 στο 24′, ο Λι άλλο ένα από τη γωνία, όμως το ματς είχε πραγματικά ισορροπήσει και τα καλάθια έμοιαζαν πολύ μικρότερα. To 58-56 της τρίτης ενθουσίασε πολύ το κοινό, όμως ο αγώνας είχε ακόμη πολύ δρόμο.

Η Ρεάλ πάτησε το γκάζι στις αρχές της τέταρτης, εκμεταλλεύθηκε κακές αποφάσεις του Βιλντόσα και ξέφυγε στο +7 (67-60 στο 33′), με Πίτερς – Βεζένκοβ να έχουν από μία άστοχη προσπάθεια πριν ο Ιμπάκα γράψει το 72-62 στο 36′. Τι ακολούθησε; Κακές αποφάσεις των γηπεδούχων, γκολ-φάουλ τολυ Βεζένκοβ, δικό του τρίποντο για το 72-68 στο 37′ και timeout του Ματέο. Ο Λι μείωσε στο καλάθι (72-70) με βολές και ο Καμπάσο έγραψε το 76-70 με βολές, για να κρίνει τον αγώνα στα 44″ πριν από το φινάλε.
