Hapoel Tel Aviv prevailed 99-88 over Maccabi Tel Aviv in a postponed match of the 30th round of the EuroLeague. Dimitris Itoudis' team sealed its participation in the playoffs and leaves Panathinaikos AKTOR chasing at most 6th place.

Hapoel Tel Aviv prevailed in the Israeli derby against Maccabi Tel Aviv with 99-88 in a postponed match of the 30th round of the EuroLeague.

Dimitris Itoudis' team secured its participation in the playoffs of the competition one turn before the finale, while it will claim against Monaco (17/4, 20:30) the victory that could give it the home-field advantage.

Chris Jones was terrific, coming close to a triple-double with 13 points, 11 assists and 7 rebounds, while Bryant had 19 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists.

Hapoel can no longer stand in Olympiacos' path in the playoffs, while the scenario in which Panathinaikos AKTOR could reach 5th place no longer exists.

The match

Hapoel started the match better, taking a 0-8 lead, taking advantage of the home team's difficulty in scoring in the first minutes.

Itoudis' team did not have exceptional shooting percentages for most of the first period, but they did collect 7 offensive rebounds that gave them many second chances and a 12-point lead at the end of the first 10 minutes.

The visitors, although they continued to execute poorly from behind the 6.75m line, maintained their double-digit lead with relative ease until the middle of the second period (30-40) thanks to the excellent contribution of Odiassi with nine points, the formidable Chris Jones who handed out 5 assists in 5 minutes and their 16/23 two-pointers up to that point.

The Reds seemed to be going with this safety margin to the locker room which reached +13 (34-47), but with a 7-0 run by the home team, the gap was reduced to 6 (41-47) just before the break. With their own 5-0 in the last 40″ of the first half, the visitors restored their double-digit lead (41-52) before going to the locker room.

In the second half, the situation was similar, with the Reds keeping the lead close to 10 points with the score at 50-62 in the 25th minute. Again, Maccabi found a 7-0 run to close to 5 (57-62) and close the third period at -7 (66-73).

Everything was open in the last quarter with the home team closing to 5 points (75-80), but Jones, Blakeney and Bryant took charge and with 8 unanswered points they sent the lead back to 13 (75-88) with 4 minutes remaining.

With this last outburst, the visitors left no room for a comeback for Katas' team and reached the victory that sealed their participation in the playoffs.

Ο αγώνας

Η Χάποελ ξεκίνησε καλύτερα στην αναμέτρηση παίρνοντας προβάδισμα 0-8 εκμεταλλευόμενη τη δυσκολία των γηπεδούχων να σκοράρουν κατά τα πρώτα λεπτά.

Ούτε η ομάδα του Ιτούδη βέβαια είχε εξαιρετικά ποσοστά ευστοχίας στο μεγαλύτερο διάστημα της πρώτης περιόδου, όμως μάζεψε 7 επιθετικά ριμπάουντ που της έδωσαν πολλές δεύτερες ευκαιρίες και προβάδισμα 12 πόντων στη λήξη των πρώτων 10′.

Οι φιλοξενούμενοι αν και εξακολούθησαν να εκτελούν άσχημα πίσω από τα 6,75μ διατήρησαν με σχετική ευκολία τη διψήφια διαφορά τους μέχρι τα μέσα της δεύτερης περιόδου (30-40) χάρη στην εξαιρετική προσφορά του Οντιάσι με εννέα μαζεμένους πόντους, τον τρομερό Κρις Τζόουνς που μοίρασε 5 ασίστ σε 5 λεπτά και τα 16/23 δίποντά τους μέχρι εκείνο το σημείο.

Οι κόκκινοι φαινόταν πως θα πάνε με αυτή τη διαφορά ασφαλείας στα αποδυτήρια η οποία έφτασε και το +13 (34-47), όμως με σερί 7-0 των γηπεδούχων η απόσταση μειώθηκε στους 6 (41-47) λίγο πριν την ανάπαυλα. Με δικό τους 5-0 στα τελευταία 40″ του πρώτου μέρους, οι φιλοξενούμενοι αποκατέστησαν τη διψήφια διαφορά τους (41-52) πριν πάνε στα αποδυτήρια.

Στο δεύτερο μέρος η κατάσταση ήταν πρόμοια, με τους κόκκινους να κρατούν τη διαφορά κοντά στους 10 πόντους με το σκορ να είναι 50-62 στο 25ο λεπτό. Ξανά η Μακάμπι βρήκε ένα σερί 7-0 για να πλησιάσει στους 5 (57-62) και να κλείσει την τρίτη περίοδο στο -7 (66-73).

Όλα ήταν ανοιχτά στο τελευταίο δεκάλεπτο με τους γηπεδούχους να πλησιάζουν στους 5 πόντους (75-80), αλλά Τζόουνς, Μπλέικνι και Μπράιαντ ανέλαβαν την ευθύνη και με 8 αναπάντητους πόντους έστειλαν τη διαφορά ξανά στους 13 (75-88) με 4 λεπτά να απομένουν.

Με το τελευταίο αυτό ξέσπασμά τους, οι φιλοξενούμενοι δεν άφησαν περιθώριο επιστροφής στην ομάδα του Κάτας και έφτασαν στη νίκη που κλείδωσε τη συμμετοχή τους στα playoffs.
