Athens Kallithea FC have announced the signing of 26-year-old New Zealand left-back James McGarry on loan from Aberdeen until the end of the 2024/25 season. McGarry won the Australian A-League with Central Coast Mariners before moving to the Scottish Premiership with Aberdeen, where he made 28 appearances in total over the past two seasons. Born in Dunedin, New Zealand, McGarry came through the academy of local club Southern United, and began his professional career in Australia with Wellington Phoenix, making his A-League debut at the age of 18 in January 2016. In July 2018, McGarry made his first move to Europe, joining Dutch side Willem II. Over the course of two seasons, McGarry With the club, McGarry made six first-team appearances in the Eredivisie, while also making 28 appearances for the reserves.

McGarry returned to Australia in October 2020, where he spent two more seasons with Wellington Phoenix, one season with Newcastle Jets, and one season with Central Coast Mariners, with whom he won the A-League championship in 2023, making 24 appearances with 4 goals and one assist during the championship.

McGarry secured a transfer to Aberdeen in August 2023, where he made 17 appearances in total (nine as a starter) in all competitions in his first season with the club, including three appearances (two as a starter) in the UEFA Conference League. He made seven appearances (five as a starter) in the league in the first half of the 2024/25 season, with Aberdeen currently in fourth place in the Scottish Premiership standings.

As an international, McGarry has represented New Zealand at the under-17, under-20 and under-23 levels, and once with the men's national team in November 2019.

Ο McGarry κατέκτησε το πρωτάθλημα A-League Αυστραλίας με τη Central Coast Mariners προτού πάει στη σκωτσέζικη Premiership με την Aberdeen, όπου κατέγραψε 28 συμμετοχές συνολικά τις τελευταίες δύο σεζόν.

Ο McGarry εξασφάλισε μεταγραφή στην Aberdeen τον Αύγουστο 2023, όπου κατέγραψε 17 συμμετοχές συνολικά (εννέα ως βασικός) σε όλες τις διοργανώσεις στην πρώτη σεζόν του με την ομάδα, συμπεριλαμβανομένων και τριών συμμετοχών (δύο ως βασικός) στο UEFA Conference League.
