At least 56 dead after incidents at soccer match in Guinea
Heavy mourning covered Guinea, as dozens lost their lives yesterday in serious incidents in the southwestern city of Zerekore, during a football match between fans of the local team and Lambe.
The exact number of victims in the clashes has not yet been announced, but while international media reported that it would exceed 100, the government announced that so far 56 deaths have been confirmed, including head injuries and stab wounds.
Clashes between fans and images of violent incidents began, following decisions by the match referee. He showed two red cards to Lambe players, a penalty in favor of Zerekore, which caused the fans to rage and enter the stadiums, where they clashed with the police forces.
Incidents and clashes spread across the city, with fans setting fire to the local police station.

Βαρύ πένθος σκέπασε τη Γουϊνέα, καθώς δεκάδες έχασαν τη ζωή τους χθες στα σοβαρά επεισόδια στο Ζερεκορέ, πόλη στα νοτιοδυτικά της χώρας, κατά τη διάρκεια ποδοσφαιρικού αγώνα μεταξύ οπαδών της τοπικής ομάδας και της Λάμπε.
Ακόμη δεν έχει γίνει γνωστός ο ακριβής αριθμός των θυμάτων στις συγκρούσεις, αλλά ενώ διεθνή ΜΜΕ ανέφεραν πως θα ξεπεράσει τους 100, η κυβέρνηση ανακοίνωσε πως έως τώρα έχουν επιβεβαιωθεί 56 θάνατοι, που φέρουν χτυπήματα στο κεφάλι και τραύματα από μαχαίρι.
Οι συγκρούσεις μεταξύ οπαδών και οι εικόνες βίαιων επεισοδίων ξεκίνησαν, ύστερα από αποφάσεις του διαιτητή του αγώνα. Εδειξε δύο κόκκινες κάρτες σε παίκτες της Λάμπε, πέναλτι υπέρ της Ζερεκορέ, κάτι προκάλεσε την οργή των οπαδών και την είσοδο τους στο γήπεδα, όπου συνεπλάκησαν με τις αστυνομικές δυνάμεις.
Τα επεισόδια και οι συγκρούσεις εξαπλώθηκαν σε ολόκληρη την πόλη, ενώ οπαδοί πυρπόλησαν το αστυνομικό τμήμα της περιοχής.
