Μάλιστα τη φάση αυτή, πέρα από τον διαιτητή της αναμέτρησης, την εξέτασε και το VAR, χωρίς όμως να τιμωρήσουν τον παίκτη του συλλόγου από τη Φλόριντα. Αντιθέτως, η Πειθαρχική επιτροπή του MLS εξέτασε και εκείνη με τη σειρά της την επίμαχη φάση και αποφάσισε να τιμωρήσει τον Μέσι.
«Η Πειθαρχική Επιτροπή της MLS επέβαλε πρόστιμο στον επιθετικό της Ίντερ Μαϊάμι, Λιονέλ Μέσι, για παραβίαση του κανονισμού της λίγκας σχετικά με επαφή με τα χέρια στο πρόσωπο, το κεφάλι ή τον λαιμό αντιπάλου, στο 101ο και πλέον λεπτό της αναμέτρησης με τη Φιλαδέλφεια Γιούνιον στις 19 Αυγούστου», ανέφερε η ανακοίνωση που εξέδωσε η λίγκα.
