US Open: In the second round Sakkari, 2-0 against Kostyuk
In the second round of the US Open, Sakkari beat Kostyuk 2-0.
With a good performance, Maria Sakkari got the ticket for the second round of the US Open.
The Greek tennis player, No. 17 on the board, prevailed with a 2-0 set (6-4, 6-3) of Ukraine Marta Kostyuk and will expect one of Sevastova or Shinyakova in the next phase.
Sakkari played aggressively and despite the 6 double errors in the match and the 24 effortless errors (1 and 17 respectively for Ukraine) had 8 aces and 27 winners against 1 and 11 of Kostyuk, to get the ticket to the second round. "Key" for qualification and two crucial breaks in the two sets.
With this qualification, Greece for the first time in history, will have three tennis players in the second round of a grand slam!
Break at the right time and 1-0
Kostyuk with a mistake in Sakkari's forehand made it 1-0 in the games, while from two mistakes in Maria's net he made the break for 2-0.
However, Sakkari - and with a little luck in one point - found the break by pushing her opponent in the main line and forcing her to return to the net, to reduce the score to 2-1.
Maria equalized thanks to her good serve, but Kostyuk in the same way forced Sakkari out in two comebacks and took a 3-2 lead.
The 3-3 was made with a love game by Sakkari, while with a drop shot Kostyuk maintained the lead with 4-3.
Sakkari then endured the break point of her opponent and equalized and then she made the break thanks to Kostyuk's lost returns from her strong forehands!
She made it 5-4 and served for the set which was closed thanks to an ace and a forehand on the cross that her opponent could not return.
Start with a break in the second set, but… gift in the fourth game
Maria started the second set with a break, while she saved three break points afterwards to make it 2-0. Kostyuk reduced to 2-1 with a return to the net by Maria.
Sakkari gave a gift to her opponent the next game. She led 40-0 in her serve, made two effortless errors and two more double errors in her serve, with Kostyuk making the break and then holding on to her serve to lead 3-2 in the games!
The key sixth game
Sakkari had to save two break points to equalize with a winner at 3-3 and then made a break with a mistake in the net by her opponent, to lead 4-3. She kept her serve and made it 5-3, while with two mistakes of her opponent came the break for 6-3 and the qualification to the second round.

Στον δεύτερο γύρο του US Open η Σάκκαρη, κέρδισε 2-0 την Κόστγιουκ.
Με καλή εμφάνιση η Μαρία Σάκκαρη πήρε το εισιτήριο για τον δεύτερο γύρο του US Open.
Η Ελληνίδα τενίστρια, Νο17 στο ταμπλό, επικράτησε με 2-0 σετ (6-4, 6-3) της Ουκρανής Μάρτα Κόστγιουκ και θα περιμένει μία εκ των Σεβάστοβα ή Σινιάκοβα στην επόμενη φάση.
Η Σάκκαρη έπαιξε επιθετικά και παρά τα 6 διπλά λάθη στο ματς και τα 24 αβίαστα λάθη (1 και 17 αντίστοιχα για την Ουκρανή) είχε και 8 άσους και 27 winners έναντι 1 και 11 της Κόστγιουκ, για να πάρει το εισιτήριο στον δεύτερο γύρο. «Κλειδί» για την πρόκριση και δύο καθοριστικά μπρέικ στα δύο σετ.
Με αυτή την πρόκριση, η Ελλάδα για πρώτη φορά στην ιστορία, θα έχει τρεις τενίστες στον δεύτερο γύρο ενός grand slam!
Break την κατάλληλη στιγμή και 1-0
Η Κόστγιουκ με λάθος στο φόρχαντ της Σάκκαρη έκανε το 1-0 στα games, ενώ από δύο λάθη στο φιλέ της Μαρίας έκανε και το μπρέικ για το 2-0.
Η Σάκκαρη ωστόσο -και με λίγη τύχη σε έναν πόντο- βρήκε το μπρέικ πιέζοντας στην βασική γραμμή την αντίπαλό της και αναγκάζοντάς την σε επιστροφή στο φιλέ, για να μειώσει το σκορ σε 2-1.
Η Μαρία ισοφάρισε χάρη στο καλό της σερβίς, αλλά η Κόστγιουκ με τον ίδιο τρόπο ανάγκασε σε δύο επιστροφές άουτ την Σάκκαρη και πήρε προβάδισμα 3-2.
Το 3-3 έγινε με love game από την Σάκκαρη, ενώ με drop shot η Κόστγιουκ διατήρησε το προβάδισμα με 4-3.
Η Σάκκαρη στη συνέχεια άντεξε στο μπρέικ πόιντ της αντιπάλου της και ισοφάρισε και στη συνέχεια έκανε αυτή το μπρέικ χάρη στις χαμένες επιστροφές της Κόστγιουκ από τα δυνατά φόρχαντ της!
Εκανε το 5-4 και σέρβιρε για το σετ το οποίο και έκλεισε χάρη σε έναν άσο και ένα φόρχαντ στη διαγώνιο που δεν μπόρεσε να επιστρέψει η αντίπαλός της.
Αρχή με μπρέικ στο δεύτερο σετ, αλλά… δώρο στο τέταρτο game
Με μπρέικ ξεκίνησε το δεύτερο σετ η Μαρία, ενώ έσωσε τρία μπρέικ πόιντ στη συνέχεια για να κάνει το 2-0. H Κόστγιουκ μείωσε σε 2-1 με επιστροφή στο φιλέ από την Μαρία.
Η Σάκκαρη έκανε δώρο στην αντίπαλό της το επόμενο γκέιμ. Προηγήθηκε με 40-0 στο σερβίς της, έκανε δύο αβίαστα λάθη και άλλα δύο διπλά λάθη στο σερβίς της, με την Κόστγιουκ να κάνει το μπρέικ και στη συνέχεια να κρατά το σερβίς της για να προηγηθεί με 3-2 στα γκέιμς!
Το κομβικό έκτο game
Η Σάκκαρη χρειάστηκε να σώσει δύο μπρέικ πόιντ για να ισοφαρίσει με winner σε 3-3 και στη συνέχεια έκανε μπρέικ με λάθος στο φιλέ από την αντίπαλό της, για να προηγηθεί με 4-3. Κράτησε το σερβίς της και έκανε το 5-3, ενώ με δύο λάθη της αντιπάλου της ήρθε το μπρέικ για το 6-3 και η πρόκριση στον δεύτερο γύρο.
