Tager - Sakkari 1-2: Return to victories and continue in Rome
Maria Sakkari, although she found herself in a difficult position against Lily Tager, turned the tables, dominated with 5-7, 6-3, 6-0 and qualified for the 2nd round of the WTA 1000 in Rome, where she will meet Elena Rybakina.
Maria Sakkari returned to victories against the player who had scored her last victory two months ago (7/3) in Indian Wells. The Greek player, although she found herself in a difficult position, achieved the upset with 5-7, 6-3, 6-0 over 18-year-old Lily Tager from Austria and qualified for the 2nd round of the WTA 1000 in Rome.
Thus, the 30-year-old Sakkari ended her streak of four consecutive defeats and closed the important date with Elena Rybakina, in the 2nd round of the tournament in Rome.

Break on break and 0-1
The 1st set was characterized by reversals. Sakkari in the opening game, which "touched" the 10th minute, had to "extinguish" a break point, before making it 1-0. She did not avoid it in the 3rd game, making a double fault at 30-40, with Tager going ahead 2-1 and the Austrian, maintaining her own serve, escaped with 3-1.
Sakkari reduced to 3-2 and on her first opportunity for a break, tied 3-3 and went ahead 4-3. Tager tied the match at 4-4 with the first love game and took the lead with a new break at 5-4.
The 18-year-old from Austria had the serve to close the set, but found herself at 15-40 and with a double fault she was broken with Sakkari leveling at 5-5. However, Tager had an answer, won the next eight points and together won the set with a score of 6-4.
Reduced the errors and 1-1
The 2nd set started badly for Maria Sakkari, who was broken again, with Tager maintaining her serve, for 2-0. Sakkari, by “erasing” a break point, stopped the streak of four consecutive games won by her opponent (2-1). In fact, in the next game, Sakkari created a double break point and did not leave it unexploited, tying at 2-2. With a love game, Sakkari overtook her 3-2 and, having found a rhythm, achieved a new break for 4-2. Extending her streak to five won games, she escaped with 5-2 and serving with a love game, won the set with 6-3.
She “sealed” the qualification with a bagel
In the 3rd set, Maria Sakkari dominated, started with a new break, made it 2-0 and with a new break brought disappointment to Tager (3-0). She continued at the same pace and, leaving no room for reaction in Tager, “sealed” the qualification with an impressive 6-0.

Η Μαρία Σάκκαρη επέστρεψε στις νίκες με αντίπαλο την παίκτρια που είχε σημειώσει την τελευταία της πριν από δύο μήνες (7/3) στο Indian Wells. H Ελληνίδα παίκτρια αν και βρέθηκε σε δύσκολη θέση, πέτυχε την ανατροπή με 5-7, 6-3, 6-0 επί της 18χρονης Λίλι Τάγκερ από την Αυστρία και προκρίθηκε στον 2ο γύρο στο WTA 1000 της Ρώμης.
Έτσι η 30χρονη Σάκκαρη έδωσε τέλος στο σερί των τεσσάρων διαδοχικών ηττών κι έκλεισε το σπουδαίο ραντεβού με την Έλενα Ριμπάκινα, στον 2ο γύρο του τουρνουά στη Ρώμη.

Break στο break και 0-1
Tο 1ο σετ χαρακτηρίστηκε από τις ανατροπές. Η Σάκκαρη στο εναρκτήριο game, που «άγγιξε» τα 10 λεπτά, χρειάστηκε να «σβήσει» break point, πριν κάνει το 1-0. Δεν το απέφυγε στο 3o game, κάνοντας διπλό λάθος στο 30-40, με την Τάγκερ να προσπερνά με 2-1 και η αυστριακή διατηρώντας το δικό της σερβίς ξέφυγε με 3-1.
Η Σάκκαρη μείωσε σε 3-2 και στην πρώτη της δική της ευκαιρία για break, ισοφάρισε 3-3 και προσπέρασε με 4-3. Η Τάγκερ με το πρώτο love game στον αγώνα ισοφάρισε 4-4 και με νέο break προσπέρασε με 5-4.
Η 18χρονη από την Αυστρία είχε το σερβίς για να κλείσει το σετ, όμως βρέθηκε στο 15-40 και με διπλό λάθος δέχθηκε break με τη Σάκκαρη να ισοφαρίζει σε 5-5. Όμως η Τάγκερ είχε απάντηση, κέρδισε τους οκτώ επόμενους πόντους και μαζί κατέκτησε το σετ με 6-4.
Μείωσε τα λάθη και 1-1
Άσχημα άρχισε το 2ο σετ για τη Μαρία Σάκκαρη, που δέχθηκε νέο break, με την Τάγκερ να διατηρεί το σερβίς της, για το 2-0. Η Σάκκαρη «σβήνοντας» break point, σταμάτησε το σερί των τεσσάρων διαδοχικών κερδισμένων games από την αντίπαλό της (2-1). Μάλιστα στο επόμενο game η Σάκκαρη δημιούργησε διπλό break point και δεν το άφησε ανεκμετάλλευτο, ισοφαρίζοντας σε 2-2. Mε love game η Σάκκαρη προσπέρασε με 3-2 και έχοντας βρει ρυθμό πέτυχε νέο break για το 4-2. Διευρύνοντας το σερί της στα πέντε κερδισμένα games ξέφυγε με 5-2 και σερβίροντας με love game, κατέκτησε το σετ με 6-3.
«Σφράγισε» την πρόκριση με bagel
Στο 3ο σετ η Μαρία Σάκκαρη κυριάρχησε, ξεκίνησε με νέο break, έκανε το 2-0 και με νέο break έφερε την απογοήτευση στην Τάγκερ (3-0). Συνέχισε στους ίδιους ρυθμούς και μη αφήνοντας περιθώρια αντίδρασης στην Τάγκερ, «σφράγισε» την πρόκριση με το εντυπωσιακό 6-0.
