The 21-0 in the championship was made by Olympiacos, who, with a strong performance and good basketball, easily defeated Panathinaikos (101-94) at Telekom Center Athens. Nunn and Dorsey were grabbed and ejected just before halftime.

It was a derby without stakes, a big match between two of the top teams in Europe, but it certainly did not prove to be indifferent as many expected.

Panathinaikos and Olympiacos fought a huge battle on Monday night (30/3) at Telekom Center Athens, for the 23rd matchday of the Stoiximan GBL, with the Piraeus team taking the victory (101-94) and now having the opportunity to close the regular season undefeated.

The red and whites went up to 21-0 (10-0 home and 11-0 away), with Giorgos Bartzokas getting a lot from Giannoulis Larentzakis who covered for the suspended Evan Fournier, as well as Tyler Dorsey who was sent off shortly before halftime after an incident with Kendrick Nunn.

Agony for Tyreek Jones, who left 2:23 before the final with a calf injury.

Panathinaikos fell to 17-5 (9-2 home and 8-3 away), with Ergin Ataman seeing Nunn score in quick succession in the first half and Shorts – Osman standing out in the second. The Turks were without Grant, Rogavopoulos, Hayes-Davis and Hernangomez, which meant that the small rotation was even more limited.

The MVP

With Fournier out and Dorsey leaving before halftime, Giannoulis Larentzakis, the fourth in Olympiacos' shooting guard rotation, stepped up and made the difference. The Greek guard scored 12 points (1/2 two-pointers, 3/6 three-pointers, 1/1 field goal), grabbed two rebounds, dished out six assists and stole two balls, all in 21:18.

The statistics that stood out

Tyler Dorsey closed the first quarter with 18 points, Olympiacos had 4/5 three-pointers, Panathinaikos had 8/12 two-pointers. At halftime, Piraeus had scored 60 points, 15 of which were taken by surprise. The home team had seven assists for 11 turnovers. At the end of the night, the points from the opponent's mistakes (14-23) and the points from the substitutes (33-55), were overwhelmingly in favor of Olympiacos, who closed the match with 15/28 three-pointers and 25 assists for 12 turnovers.

The match

With Slouka, Nan, Kalaitzakis, Osman, Lesor, Panathinaikos opened the match, with Walkap, Dorsey, Papanikolaou, Vezenkov, Milutinov, Olympiacos opened it. The two teams did not play good basketball in the first minutes, Ataman was charged with a technical foul in the 5th minute, Dorsey reached nine points for 13-15 in the 6th minute, made another three-pointer for 15-24, and made 3/3 for 17-27. The Greek guard closed the quarter (21-30) with 18 points (2/3 two-pointers, 3/4 three-pointers, 5/5 shots), in a truly enjoyable performance.

Panathinaikos was disjointed, Bartzokas played with Vezenkov – Peters at forwards, Morris made a three-pointer for 23-37 in the 13th minute and the red and whites had complete control of the match. Walkup made it 33-45 with a three-pointer and a goal-foul in the 16th minute, Peters made a long shot for 36-51 in the 17th minute and Nunn was the only one who seemed capable of troubling the visitors. 33.8″ before halftime the derby was interrupted due to the clash with Nunn – Dorsey, with the referees deciding to eject them.

At 44-60 of the half, the two top scorers had already left (17th Nan – 18th Dorsey).

Panathinaikos fought tooth and nail to find a good two-pointer in defense and offense at the start of the second half, Larentzakis made a three-pointer for 52-65 at 23′ and Papanikolaou – Morris each made another one for 58-71 which kept Olympiacos at bay. The green team’s counterattack led to 66-71 at 27′, but again, the home team’s 30 points in the third quarter were not enough to put them ahead at the beginning of the fourth (74-80).

A three-pointer by Larentzakis (74-83 at 32′) and a goal-foul of his own (74-86) put even more pressure on Panathinaikos. Sloukas made a three-pointer for 82-88 in the 36th minute, but Jones finished a shot close to the basket and Peters scored a three-pointer from the corner for 82-93 in the 37th minute, which definitively decided the derby.

Το 21-0 στο πρωτάθλημα έκανε ο Ολυμπιακός, που με κατοστάρα και καλό μπάσκετ, νίκησε εύκολα τον Παναθηναϊκό (101-94) στο Telekom Center Athens. Αρπάχτηκαν και αποβλήθηκαν λίγο πριν από το ημίχρονο Ναν και Ντόρσεϊ.

Ήταν ντέρμπι χωρίς διακύβευμα, ένα μεγάλο ματς ανάμεσα σε δύο από τις κορυφαίες ομάδες της Ευρώπης, σίγουρα όμως δεν αποδείχθηκε αδιάφορο όπως πολλοί περίμεναν.

Παναθηναϊκός και Ολυμπιακός έδωσαν τεράστια μάχη το βράδυ της Δευτέρας (30/3) στο Telekom Center Athens, για την 23η αγωνιστική της Stoiximan GBL, με τους Πειραιώτες να παίρνουν την νίκη (101-94) και να έχουν πλέον την ευκαιρία να κλείσουν την κανονική περίοδο αήττητοι.

Στο 21-0 ανέβηκαν οι ερυθρόλευκοι (10-0 εντός και 11-0 εκτός έδρας), με τον Γιώργο Μπαρτζώκα να παίρνει πολλά από τον Γιαννούλη Λαρεντζάκη ο οποίος κάλυψε τον τιμωρημένο Εβάν Φουρνιέ, αλλά και τον Τάιλερ Ντόρσεϊ που αποβλήθηκε λίγο πριν από το ημίχρονο μετά από επεισόδιο με τον Κέντρικ Ναν.

Αγωνία για τον Ταϊρίκ Τζόουνς, που 2:23 πριν από το φινάλε αποχώρησε με τραυματισμό στη γάμπα.

Στο 17-5 έπεσε ο Παναθηναϊκός (9-2 εντός και 8-3 εκτός έδρας), με τον Εργκίν Αταμάν να βλέπει τον Ναν να σκοράρει κατά ριπάς στο πρώτο μέρος και τους Σορτς – Όσμαν να ξεχωρίζουν στο δεύτερο. Ο Τούρκος δεν είχε τους Γκραντ, Ρογκαβόπουλο, Χέιζ-Ντέιβις και Ερνανγκόμεθ, με αποτέλεσμα το μικρό ροτέισον να περιοριστεί ακόμη περισσότερο.

Ο MVP

Με τον Φουρνιέ εκτός και με τον Ντόρσεϊ να αποχωρεί πριν από το ημίχρονο, ο Γιαννούλης Λαρεντζάκης, ο τέταρτος στο ροτέισον των σούτινγκ γκαρντ του Ολυμπιακού, βγήκε μπροστά και έκανε τη διαφορά. Ο Έλληνας γκαρντ έβαλε 12 πόντους (1/2 δίποντα, 3/6 τρίποντα, 1/1 βολή), μάζεψε δύο ριμπάουντ, μοίρασε έξι ασίστ, έκλεψε δύο μπάλες, όλα αυτά σε 21:18.

Τα στατιστικά που ξεχώρισαν

Με 18 πόντους έκλεισε το πρώτο δεκάλεπτο ο Τάιλερ Ντόρσεϊ, 4/5 τρίποντα είχε ο Ολυμπιακός, 8/12 δίποντα είχε ο Παναθηναϊκός. Στο ημίχρονο οι Πειραιώτες είχαν βάλει 60 πόντους, 15 από τους οποίους τους βρήκαν στον αιφνιδιασμό. Οι γηπεδούχοι είχαν επτά ασίστ για 11 λάθη. Στο τέλος της βραδιάς, οι πόντοι από τα λάθη του αντιπάλου (14-23) και οι πόντοι από τους αναπληρωματικούς (33-55), ήταν συντριπτικά υπέρ του Ολυμπιακού που έκλεισε το ματς με 15/28 τρίποντα και με 25 ασίστ για 12 λάθη.

Ο αγώνας

Με Σλούκα, Ναν, Καλαϊτζάκη, Όσμαν, Λεσόρ άνοιξε το ματς ο Παναθηναϊκός, με Γουόκαπ, Ντόρσεϊ, Παπανικολάου, Βεζένκοβ, Μιλουτίνοβ το άνοιξε ο Ολυμπιακός. Οι δύο ομάδες δεν έπαιξαν καλό μπάσκετ στα πρώτα λεπτά, ο Αταμάν χρεώθηκε με τεχνική στο 5′, ο Ντόρσεϊ έφτασε τους εννέα πόντους για το 13-15 στο 6′, έβαλε κι άλλο τρίποντο για το 15-24, έβαλε και 3/3 για το 17-27. Ο ομογενής γκαρντ έκλεισε το δεκάλεπτο (21-30) με 18 πόντους (2/3 δίποντα, 3/4 τρίποντα, 5/5 βολές), σε μια πραγματικά απολαυστική παράσταση.

Ο Παναθηναϊκός ήταν ασύνδετος, ο Μπαρτζώκας έπαιξε με Βεζένκοβ – Πίτερς στα φόργουορντ, ο Μόρις έβαλε τρίποντο για το 23-37 στο 13′ και οι ερυθρόλευκοι είχαν τον απόλυτο έλεγχο του ματς. Ο Γουόκαπ με τρίποντο και με γκολ-φάουλ έγραψε το 33-45 στο 16′, ο Πίτερς έβαλε μακρινό σουτ για το 36-51 στο 17′ κι ο Ναν ήταν ο μόνος που έδειχνε ικανός να προβληματίσει τους φιλοξενούμενους. 33.8″ πριν από το ημίχρονο το ντέρμπι διακόπηκε εξαιτίας της σύρραξης με Ναν – Ντόρσεϊ, με τους διαιτητές να αποφασίζουν αποβολή τους.

Στο 44-60 του ημιχρόνου, είχαν ήδη αποχωρήσει οι δύο πρώτοι σκόρερ (17 ο Ναν – 18 ο Ντόρσεϊ). 

Ο Παναθηναϊκός πάλεψε με νύχια και με δόντια να βρει ένα καλό δίλεπτο σε άμυνα κι επίθεση στο ξεκίνημα του β’ μέρους, ο Λαρεντζάκης έβαλε τρίποντο για το 52-65 στο 23′ και οι Παπανικολάου – Μόρις από ένα ακόμη για το 58-71 που κράτησε τον Ολυμπιακό σε απόσταση. Η αντεπίθεση των πράσινων οδήγησε στο 66-71 στο 27′, όμως και πάλι, οι 30 πόντοι των γηπεδούχων στο τρίτο δεκάλεπτο, δεν ήταν αρκετοί για να τους βάλουν μπροστά στο σκορ στις αρχές της τέταρτης (74-80).

Ένα τρίποντο του Λαρεντζάκη (74-83 στο 32′) και ένα δικό του γκολ-φάουλ (74-86) πίεσαν ακόμη περισσότερο τον Παναθηναϊκό. Ο Σλούκας έβαλε τρίποντο για το 82-88 στο 36′, εκεί όμως ο Τζόουνς τελείωσε μια φάση κοντά στο καλάθι κι ο Πίτερς σκόραρε τρίποντο από τη γωνία για το 82-93 στο 37′, το οποίο έκρινε οριστικά το ντέρμπι.
