Ο Μπένζαμιν Κίπλαγκατ άφησε την τελευταία του πνοή σε ηλικία 34 ετών στην Κένυα, λίγες ώρες πριν από την εκπνοή του 2023, καθώς βρέθηκε νεκρός φέροντας τραύματα από μαχαίρι στο αυτοκίνητο του αδερφού του ενώ καθόταν σε θέση οδηγού (το πιθανότερο οδηγούσε ο ίδιος), όπως αναφέρουν τα τοπικά ΜΜΕ.
Ο Κιπλάγκατ καταγόταν από την Ουγκάντα και ήταν δρομέας μεγάλων αποστάσεων και ειδικευόταν στο αγώνισμα τριών χιλιάδων χιλιομέτρων, φτάνοντας μέχρι τον ημιτελικό στους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες του Λονδίνου. Η Παγκόσμια Ομοσπονδία Στίβου εξέφρασε μέσω μηνύματος στα social media τη θλίψη της και εξέφρασε τα συλλυπητήριά της στους οικείους του.
