Ritas - PAOK 85-62: A bad night that didn't decide anything (video)
The absence of Nate Renfro and Kamberidis - Slaftsakis left PAOK with a small rotation, for Ritas to seize the opportunity and destroy Thessaloniki (85-62) for 1-0 in the Play-In of the Basketball Champions League.
The trip to Vilnius was not easy, but PAOK will have to return to the capital of Lithuania in the best of cases to play their rest in two weeks. The Thessalonians were defeated at the house of Rita (85-62) and are now invited to take the second game of the series in Palataki to "get out" of the Play-In and participate in the TOP-16 of the Basketball Champions League which will take place with four groups of four teams.
Marcus Foster and Margiris Normantas did an excellent job in scoring, Ritas scored with ease on the racquet and got a lot from her bench, while Dikefalos couldn't find ways to cover the absence of mainly Nate Renfro and then Kamberidis-Slaftsakis . Apart from Jalen Riley, no one was in even a tolerable condition, on a night in which the home team dominated against an opponent that has more quality than it showed.
PAOK's start to the match was not ideal, especially in terms of defensive returns, but steals and Riley kept Dikefalos close towards the end of the period (23-16), before a quick 2-7 at the start of the second put pressure on the hosts. Rita's timeout led to an outburst of her own and a personal 13-2 for 38-25 at 17', with the halftime finding the Lithuanians at 26 rebounds and the Thessalonians at 12, but also at just five assists.
The difference was too big to be overturned, PAOK tried at the beginning of the second half, but was ineffective from the three-pointer (57-40 in the 27th minute) and did not manage to claim even the slightest, that is, to be competitive. Ritas, with the crowd on her side, kept high levels of energy in defense and attack and enjoyed the 1-0 which offers her two chances for the result that will continue her European course.

Η απουσία του Νέιτ Ρένφρο και των Καμπερίδη - Σλαφτσάκη άφησε τον ΠΑΟΚ με μικρό ροτέισον, για να αρπάξει η Ρίτας την ευκαιρία και να διαλύσει τους Θεσσαλονικείς (85-62) για το 1-0 στο Play-In του Basketball Champions League.
Το ταξίδι για το Βίλνιους δεν ήταν εύκολο, όμως ο ΠΑΟΚ θα πρέπει στην καλύτερη των περιπτώσεων να γυρίσει στην πρωτεύουσα της Λιθουανίας για να παίξει σε δύο εβδομάδες τα ρέστα του. Οι Θεσσαλονικείς ηττήθηκαν στο σπίτι της Ρίτας (85-62) και καλούνται τώρα να πάρουν το δεύτερο παιχνίδι της σειράς στο Παλατάκι για να "βγουν" από το Play-In και να συμμετάσχουν στο TOP-16 του Basketball Champions League που θα γίνει με τέσσερις ομίλους των τεσσάρων ομάδων.
Μάρκους Φόστερ και Μαργκίρις Νορμάντας έκαναν εξαιρετική δουλειά στο σκοράρισμα, η Ρίτας σκόραρε με ευκολία στη ρακέτα και πήρε πολλά από τον πάγκο της, την ώρα που ο Δικέφαλος δεν έβρισκε τρόπους για να καλύψει την απουσία κυρίως του Νέιτ Ρένφρο και στη συνέχεια των Καμπερίδη - Σλαφτσάκη. Πλην του Τζέιλεν Ράιλι ουδείς ήταν σε έστω υποφερτή κατάσταση, σε μια βραδιά που οι γηπεδούχοι κυριάρχησαν απέναντι σε έναν αντίπαλο που είναι πιο ποιοτικός απ' όσο έδειξε.
Το ξεκίνημα του ΠΑΟΚ στο ματς δεν ήταν ιδανικό, κυρίως στο κομμάτι των επιστροφών στην άμυνα, όμως τα κλεψίματα και ο Ράιλι κράτησαν τον Δικέφαλο κοντά προς το τέλος της περιόδου (23-16), πριν ένα γρήγορο 2-7 στο ξεκίνημα της δεύτερης βάλει πίεση στους γηπεδούχους. Το timeout της Ρίτας οδήγησε σε ένα δικό της ξέσπασμα και σε ένα επί μέρους 13-2 για το 38-25 στο 17', με το ημίχρονο να βρίσκει τους Λιθουανούς στα 26 ριμπάουντ και τους Θεσσαλονικείς στα 12, αλλά και στις μόλις πέντε ασίστ.
Η διαφορά ήταν μεγάλη για να ανατραπεί, ο ΠΑΟΚ προσπάθησε στο ξεκίνημα του β' μέρους, όμως ήταν αναποτελεσματικός από το τρίποντο (57-40 στο 27') και δεν κατάφερε να διεκδικήσει ούτε το ελάχιστον, να είναι δηλαδή ανταγωνιστικός. Η Ρίτας, με τον κόσμο στο πλευρό της, κράτησε υψηλά επίπεδα ενέργειας σε άμυνα κι επίθεση και διασκέδασε το 1-0 που της προσφέρει δύο ευκαιρίες για το αποτέλεσμα που θα δώσει συνέχεια στην ευρωπαϊκή της πορεία.
