Μϊα ακόμη μεγάλη έκπληξη σημειώθηκε στο απλό γυναικών του Roland Garros. Η 19χρονη Κινέζα, Κινγουέν Ζενγκ (νο74 στον κόσμο) κατάφερε στο ντεμπούτο της στο κυρίως ταμπλό του κορυφαίου Grand Slam, να κάνει την ανατροπή και να «πετάξει έξω» από τη συνέχεια το πρώην νο1 του κόσμου, την Ρουμάνα Σιμόνα Χάλεπ με 2-1 σετ (2-6, 6-2, 6-1).

Η Αμερικανίδα, ηττήθηκε από τη συμπατριώτισσά της, Σέλμπι Ρότζερς (νο50 στον κόσμο) με 6-4, 6-3 σε 77 λεπτά αγώνα. Η Ρότζερς στην 3η φάση του Roland Garros θ΄ αντιμετωπίσει τη Ντάρια Κασάτκινα (νο20 του ταμπλό).
