Fournier – Vezenkov led and Olympiacos prevailed 82-76 over Panathinaikos for 1-0 in the Stoiximan GBL finals series. Nunn – Osman scored 43, Dinos Mitoglou kept the greens standing in the third quarter.

Game 1 of the Stoiximan GBL finals series turned out to be a real dogfight, with Olympiacos defeating Panathinaikos (82-76) for 1-0.

Piraeus didn't have Tyler Dorsey, they left out their six foreign players Nilikina - Hall, they got 20 points from Evan Fournier and 16 from Sasha Vezenkov, they reached the result and have four chances for the two results that will crown them champions of Greece this year.

Panathinaikos, on the other hand, played without Kostas Sloukas, Hernangomez - Farid were left out of the six foreign players and Kendrick Nunn - Jeddi Osman were together with Dino Mitoglou in the third period who stood out.

The match

Olympiacos opened the match with Walkap, Fournier, Papanikolaou, Vezenkov, Milutinov, Panathinaikos with Grant, Nunn, Osman, Hayes-Davies, Lesor. The score remained low, Ataman saw Hayes-Davis miss, the first timeout came in the sixth minute with the score at 7-8. This resulted in an outburst by the home team for 13-8, before Papanikolaou made the craziest shot of the season, behind the center, for 21-17 of the period.

Vezenkov with a three-pointer at the beginning of the second kept Piraeus ahead, while Ataman expected things mainly from Hayes-Davis. Ward with 1/2 shots wrote 31-22 in 14′, Peters immediately had 2/2 for +11, while Vezenkov was hurting in his left thigh and left for a while in the locker room. The red and whites were not threatened until the end of the first half and Peters scored 42-30 at halftime.

Fournier increased the lead to 17 (49-32) at the beginning of the second half, he himself scored a three-pointer for 52-37 in the 24th minute. Panathinaikos could not follow, the Frenchman was a huge problem, Lesor came out with three fouls and Mitoglou scored three three-pointers for 59-53 in the 28th minute. Within a few possessions, the greens got back into the game, with Mitoglou scoring a fourth three-pointer, this time from the corner, for 62-58 at the end of the third.

The total rebound was made with Osman scoring 64-65 in the 32nd minute, however Panathinaikos had a significant problem. The mistake of Hayes-Davis, who left the match in the 34th minute and sat on the ground, on his team's bench, without watching the match.

Vezenkov made it 75-73 in the 37th minute, Nunn missed, Hayes-Davis missed a three-pointer to go over, Shorts missed and Fournier, with shots at 44.5″, made it 77-73 that could no longer be overturned. And it was not overturned. Olympiacos made it 1-0, in a series that seems to have several more episodes, as Panathinaikos showed a reaction when everything was against it.

Φουρνιέ – Βεζένκοβ ηγήθηκαν κι ο Ολυμπιακός επικράτησε με 82-76 του Παναθηναϊκού για το 1-0 στη σειρά των τελικών της Stoiximan GBL. Ναν – Όσμαν έβαλαν 43, ο Ντίνος Μήτογλου κράτησε όρθιους τους πράσινους στο τρίτο δεκάλεπτο.

Πραγματική σκυλομαχία αποδείχθηκε το Game 1 της σειράς των τελικών της Stoiximan GBL, με τον Ολυμπιακό να λυγίζει τον Παναθηναϊκό (82-76) για το 1-0.

Οι Πειραιώτες δεν είχαν τον Τάιλερ Ντόρσεϊ, άφησαν εκτός εξάδας ξένων τους Νιλικίνα – Χολ, πήραν 20 πόντους από τον Εβάν Φουρνιέ και 16 από τον Σάσα Βεζένκοβ, έφτασαν στο αποτέλεσμα και έχουν τέσσερις ευκαιρίες για τα δύο αποτελέσματα που θα τους στέψουν και φέτος πρωταθλητές Ελλάδας.

Ο Παναθηναϊκός, από την άλλη, έπαιξε χωρίς τον Κώστα Σλούκα, οι Ερνανγκόμεθ – Φαρίντ έμειναν εκτός εξάδας ξένων και οι Κέντρικ Ναν – Τζέντι Όσμαν ήταν μαζί με τον Ντίνο Μήτογλου της τρίτης περιόδου αυτοί που ξεχώρισαν.

Ο αγώνας

Με Γουόκαπ, Φουρνιέ, Παπανικολάου, Βεζένκοβ, Μιλουτίνοβ άνοιξε το ματς ο Ολυμπιακός, με Γκραντ, Ναν, Όσμαν, Χέιζ-Ντέιβις, Λεσόρ ο Παναθηναϊκός. Το σκορ έμεινε χαμηλά, ο Αταμάν είδε τον Χέιζ-Ντέιβις άστοχο, το πρώτο timeout ήρθε στο έκτο λεπτό με το σκορ στο 7-8. Από αυτό προέκυψε ένα ξέσπασμα των γηπεδούχων για το 13-8, πριν ο Παπανικολάου βάλει το πιο τρελό σουτ της σεζόν, πίσω από το κέντρο, για το 21-17 της περιόδου.

Ο Βεζένκοβ με τρίποντο στις αρχές της δεύτερης κράτησε τους Πειραιώτες μπροστά, την ώρα που ο Αταμάν περίμενε πράγματα κυρίως από τον Χέιζ-Ντέιβις. Ο Γουορντ με 1/2 βολές έγραψε το 31-22 στο 14′, ο Πίτερς είχε αμέσως μετά 2/2 για το +11, την ώρα που ο Βεζένκοβ πονούσε στον αριστερό μηρό και έφευγε για λίγο στα αποδυτήρια. Οι ερυθρόλευκοι δεν απειλήθηκαν μέχρι το τέλος του πρώτου μέρους κι ο Πίτερς έγραψε το 42-30 του ημιχρόνου.

Ο Φουρνιέ εκτόξευσε τη διαφορά στους 17 (49-32) στις αρχές του β’ μέρους, ο ίδιος έβαλε τρίποντο για το 52-37 στο 24′. Ο Παναθηναϊκός δεν μπορούσε να ακολουθήσει, ο Γάλλος ήταν τεράστιο πρόβλημα, ο Λεσόρ βγήκε με τρία φάουλ κι ο Μήτογλου έβαλε τρία τρίποντα για το 59-53 στο 28′. Μέσα σε λίγες κατοχές οι πράσινοι γύρισαν στο ματς, με τον Μήτογλου να βάζει και τέταρτο τρίποντο, αυτή τη φορά από την γωνία, για το 62-58 στο τέλος της τρίτης.

Η ολική επαναφορά έγινε με τον Όσμαν να γράφει το 64-65 στο 32′, ωστόσο ο Παναθηναϊκός είχε ένα σημαντικό πρόβλημα. Την αστοχία του Χέιζ-Ντέιβις, που στο 34′ βγήκε από το ματς και κάθισε στο έδαφος, στον πάγκο της ομάδας του, χωρίς να βλέπει το ματς.

Ο Βεζένκοβ έγραψε το 75-73 στο 37′, ο Ναν αστόχησε, ο Χέιζ-Ντέιβις αστόχησε σε τρίποντο για το προσπέρασμα, ο Σορτς αστόχησε κι ο Φουρνιέ με βολές στα 44.5″ έκανε το 77-73 που δεν μπορούσε πια να ανατραπεί. Και δεν ανατράπηκε. Ο Ολυμπιακός έκανε το 1-0, σε μια σειρά που δείχνει να έχει αρκετά ακόμη επεισόδια, καθώς ο Παναθηναϊκός έδειξε αντίδραση όταν όλα ήταν εναντίον του.
