GBL: The proposal for the relegation and promotion of one team did not proceed

The proposal for the relegation (and promotion) of one GBL team instead of two did not proceed.

On the table for the next season's championship, the relegation and promotion from and to the GBL "fell", but without the said proposal proceeding.

The said proposal did not pass the Alternate Minister of Sports, Yiannis Vroutsis, with the result that from the new season two teams would be relegated from the Stoiximan GBL and two others would be promoted from the Elite League.

In the said proposal, it was foreseen that the 13th ranked team would give 200,000 and another 150,000 would be collected from the remaining teams in the category to reach the amount of 350,000. Of these, 70% of the amount will go to the Elite League and the remaining 30% will be transferred to the National League.

A decisive role in the proposal not going ahead was played by the letter signed by 8 Elite League teams and sent to the EEC and the Deputy Minister of Sports, Yiannis Vroutsis.

The letter in question was drafted after a video conference between the president of the EEC, Vangelis Lioliou, and representatives of all the teams, during which the position of all the clubs was categorically negative. Such a decision, according to the Elite League teams, would affect the very character of the championship, its credibility and the future of dozens of historical clubs that have supported Greek basketball throughout history, while a possible reduction in the number of promotion places would degrade competitiveness, reduce the commercial and competitive value of the category and create conditions of stagnation instead of growth. Such a development would certainly act as a deterrent to any future investment intention, while it would drastically reduce the interest of fans, sponsors and local communities in the championship.

We remind you that this season only one team was relegated (Panionios), but with 13 teams in the GBL, two were promoted from the Elite League (Doxa Lefkada and Vikos Ioannina) in order to complete an even number (14).

Δεν προχώρησε η πρόταση για τον υποβιβασμό (και προβιβασμό) μιας ομάδας της GBL αντί για δύο.

Στο τραπέζι για το πρωτάθλημα της επόμενης σεζόν «έπεσε» ο υποβιβασμός και προβιβασμός από και προς την GBL, χωρίς όμως να προχωρά η εν λόγω πρόταση.

Η εν λόγω πρόταση,δεν πέρασε από τον Αναπληρωτή Υπουργό Αθλητισμού, Γιάννη Βρούτση, με αποτέλεσμα από τη νέα σεζόν να πέφτουν δύο ομάδες από την Stoiximan GBL και αντίστοιχα να ανεβαίνουν άλλες δύο από την Elite League.

Στην εν λόγω πρόταση, προβλεπόταν η 13η ομαδα της κατάταξης να δινει 200.000 και να μαζεύονται άλλες 150.000 από τις υπόλοιπες ομάδες της κατηγορίας για να φτάνει το ποσο στα 350.000. Από αυτά, το 70% του ποσού θα πηγαίνει στην Elite League και το υπόλοιπο 30% θα μεταφέρεται στην National League.

Καθοριστικό ρόλο στο να μην προχωρήσει η εν λόγω πρόταση, έπαιξε η επιστολή που είχε την υπογραφή 8 ομάδων της Elite League και πήγε στην ΕΟΚ και στον Αναπληρωτή Υπουργό Αθλητισμού, Γιάννη Βρούτση.

Η εν λόγω επιστολή συντάχθηκε μετά από τηλεδιάσκεψη του προέδρου της ΕΟΚ, Βαγγέλη Λιόλιου με εκπροσώπους όλων των ομάδων, στην διάρκεια της οποίας η θέση όλων των σωματείων ήταν κατάφορα αρνητική. Μια τέτοια απόφαση, σύμφωνα με τις ομάδες της Elite League, θα επηρέαζε τον ίδιο τον χαρακτήρα του πρωταθλήματος, την αξιοπιστία του και το μέλλον δεκάδων ιστορικών σωματείων που στηρίζουν διαχρονικά το ελληνικό μπάσκετ, ενώ και μια ενδεχόμενη μείωση του αριθμού των θέσεων ανόδου θα υποβάθμιζε την ανταγωνιστικότητα, θα μείωνε την εμπορική και αγωνιστική αξία της κατηγορίας και θα δημιουργούσε συνθήκες στασιμότητας αντί ανάπτυξης. Μία τέτοια εξέλιξη μετά βεβαιότητας θα λειτουργούσε αποτρεπτικά σε κάθε μελλοντική επενδυτική πρόθεση, ενώ θα μείωνε δραστικά το ενδιαφέρον φίλαθλων, χορηγών και τοπικών κοινωνιών για το πρωτάθλημα.

Θυμίζουμε πως την φετινή σεζόν υποβιβάστηκε μεν μόνο μια ομάδα (Πανιώνιος), όμως με 13 ομάδες στη GBL, ανέβηκαν δύο από την Elite League (Δόξα Λευκάδας και Βίκος Ιωαννίνων) προκειμένου να συμπληρωθεί ζυγός αριθμός (14).
