Muchova lost with a set-break, but Sakkari keeps the lead in Doha

Despite leading in sets and looking ready for a big qualification, Sakkari lost in the third set to Muchova (1-2) in the semifinals of the Qatar Open, but left positive messages for the future.

Maria Sakkari came very close to a great qualification to the final of the Qatar Open, but ultimately suffered a defeat to Karolina Muchova with 2-1 sets (6-3, 4-6, 1-6), in a match that had strong fluctuations and high-level tennis.

The Greek tennis player played an excellent first set, imposing her rhythm from the beginning with pressure from the baseline and great intensity in her shots. At the beginning of the second set, she continued at the same pace, showing herself capable of "locking" the game, but her opponent reacted, changed tactics and balanced the match.

Sakkari fought, but in the third set her psychology had moved to the other side of the net, as a result of which she was unable to maintain the same stability. Despite the upset, her overall image in Doha with victories against top tennis players, sent a clear message that she can stand and compete against the top tennis players in the world, even gaining 19 places in the ranking and rising to number 33.

The match:

The first set was a clear demonstration of tactics and intensity from Sakkari against Muchova. Although the Czech broke first, the Greek reacted immediately, raising the tempo and systematically pressuring her opponent's backhand. With deep returns and a solid first serve (73%), she did not allow Muchova to find comfort in the rallies.

Sakkari cleverly targeted Muchova's backhand, who often attempted an inside-out forehand, opening the court and finishing several points with winners, taking advantage of the break points.

The finale was stormy. With ten consecutive points, she broke for 5-3 and "locked" the set on her serve, forcing Muchova into successive errors, mainly from the backhand.

Having gained confidence from the very strong finish in the first set, Sakkari made a break in the second with… hello, playing great tennis, while in a formal manner she also made it 2-0.

Muchova showed a reaction and held her serve, while from then on she made her shots much more aggressively and tried to finish the points faster, taking the break back and making it 2-2. This was also the turning point, as Muchova got her psychology and made a second consecutive break, with Sakkari not being so stable neither on serve nor from the baseline, resulting in the Czech making it 4-2 and then 5-2.

Sakkari took her next service game and managed to break her opponent's serve, for 5-4, having the opportunity to equalize. However, Muchova was calmer and for the third time in the second set she broke, to take the set and make it 1-1.

The match in the third set was a typical procedure, as in just under 25 minutes and with three breaks Muchova made it 5-0, with Sakkari having lost her strength, as a result of which she made easy mistakes on theoretically... her own points.

Sakkari reduced it to 5-1 on her serve, however the Czech took the match in her next service game, making some amazing lobs and somehow qualified for the final, where she will face Victoria Empoko.

Παρότι προηγήθηκε στα σετ και έδειξε έτοιμη για μεγάλη πρόκριση, η Σάκκαρη λύγισε στο τρίτο σετ από τη Μούχοβα (1-2) στον ημιτελικό του Qatar Open, αφήνοντας όμως θετικά μηνύματα για τη συνέχεια.

Η Μαρία Σάκκαρη έφτασε πολύ κοντά σε μια σπουδαία πρόκριση στον τελικό του Qatar Open, όμως τελικά γνώρισε την ήττα από την Καρολίνα Μούχοβα με 2-1 σετ (6-3, 4-6, 1-6), σε ένα ματς που είχε έντονες διακυμάνσεις και υψηλού επιπέδου τένις.

Η Ελληνίδα τενίστρια πραγματοποίησε εξαιρετικό πρώτο σετ, επιβάλλοντας από νωρίς τον ρυθμό της με πίεση από τη βασική γραμμή και μεγάλη ένταση στα χτυπήματά της. Στο ξεκίνημα του δεύτερου συνέχισε στο ίδιο τέμπο, δείχνοντας ικανή να «κλειδώσει» το παιχνίδι, όμως η αντίπαλός της αντέδρασε, άλλαξε τακτική και ισορρόπησε την αναμέτρηση.

Η Σάκκαρη πάλεψε, αλλά στο τρίτο σετ η ψυχολογία είχε περάσει στην άλλη πλευρά του φιλέ, με αποτέλεσμα να μην μπορέσει να διατηρήσει την ίδια σταθερότητα. Παρά την ανατροπή, η συνολική της εικόνα στην Ντόχα με νίκες κόντρα σε κορυφαίες τενίστριες, έστειλε ξεκάθαρο μήνυμα πως μπορεί να σταθεί και να διεκδικήσει απέναντι στις κορυφαίες τενίστριες του κόσμου, κερδίζοντας μάλιστα 19 θέσεις στην κατάταξη και ανεβαίνοντας στο νούμερο 33.

Το ματς:

Το πρώτο σετ αποτέλεσε ξεκάθαρη επίδειξη τακτικής και έντασης από τη Σάκκαρη απέναντι στην Μούχοβα. Παρότι η Τσέχα έκανε πρώτη break, η Ελληνίδα αντέδρασε άμεσα, ανεβάζοντας ρυθμό και πιέζοντας συστηματικά το μπακχαντ της αντιπάλου της. Με βαθιές επιστροφές και σταθερό πρώτο σερβίς (73%), δεν επέτρεψε στη Μούχοβα να βρει άνεση στα ράλι.

Η Σάκκαρη στόχευσε έξυπνα το backhand της Μούχοβα, που πολλές φορές επιχειρούσε inside-out forehand, ανοίγοντας το γήπεδο και τελειώνοντας αρκετούς πόντους με winners, εκμεταλλευόμενη τα break points.

Το φινάλε ήταν καταιγιστικό. Με δέκα διαδοχικούς πόντους, έκανε break για το 5-3 και «κλείδωσε» το σετ στο σερβίς της, αναγκάζοντας τη Μούχοβα σε αλλεπάλληλα λάθη, κυρίως από το backhand.

Έχοντας πάρει αυτοπεποίθηση από το πολύ δυνατό φίνις στο πρώτο σετ, η Σάκκαρη έκανσε στο δεύτερο με το… καλημέρα break, παίζοντας φοβερό τένις, ενώ με τυπική διαδικασία έκανε και το 2-0.

Η Μούχοβα έδειξε αντίδραση και κράτησε το σερβίς της, ενώ έκτοτε έκανε πολύ πιο επιθετικά τα χτυπήματά της και προσπάθησε να τελειώνει τους πόντους πιο γρήγορα, παίρνοντας το break πίσω και κάνοντας το 2-2. Aυτό ήταν και το σημείο καμπής, καθώς η Μούχοβα πήρε ψυχολογία και έκανε δεύτερο διαδοχικό break, με τη Σάκκαρη να μην είναι τόσο σταθερή ούτε από το σερβίς ούτε από τη βασική γραμμή, με αποτέλεσμα η Τσέχα να κάνει το 4-2 και εν συνεχεία το 5-2.

Η Σάκκαρη πήρε το επόμενο service game της και κατάφερε να σπάσει το σερβίς της αντιπάλου της, για το 5-4, έχοντας την ευκαιρία να ισοφαρίσει. Ωστόσο, η Μούχοβα ήταν πιο ψύχραιμη και για τρίτη φορά μέσα στο δεύτερο σετ έκανε break, για να πάρει το σετ και να κάνει το 1-1.

Το ματς στο τρίτο σετ ήταν τυπική διαδικασία, καθώς σε κάτι λιγότερο από 25 λεπτά και με τρία breaks η Μούχοβα έκανε το 5-0, με τη Σάκκαρη να έχει χάσει τις δυνάμεις της, με αποτέλεσμα να κάνει εύκολα λάθη σε θεωρητικά... δικούς της πόντους.

Η Σάκκαρη μείωσε σε 5-1 στο σερβίς της, ωστόσο η Τσέχα πήρε στο επόμενο service game της το ματς, βγάζοντας κάποιους καταπληκτικούς πόνπήρε και κάπως έτσι προκρίθηκε στον τελικό, εκεί όπου θα αντιμετωπίσει τη Βικτόρια Εμπόκο.
