Panathinaikos AKTOR went on a special mission without a center against the most in-form team in the EuroLeague, but lost with their hands down (86-68) to Red Star in the 9th matchday.

Panathinaikos AKTOR lost before even entering the Beogradska Arena. The Greens knew from the beginning that they would have a difficult task, since they went to Serbia without a regular center in their twelve, while facing the most in-form team in the EuroLeague.

However, they never really appeared on the field and lost 86-68 to Red Star in the game that opened the curtain on the 9th round. Jeddi Osman (14 points, 5 rebounds) and Kostas Sloukas (16 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists) were the only ones who survived from Panathinaikos, while Nikos Rogavopoulos' effort (12 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists) was also positive.

Saša Obradović's team thus rose to 7-2 (5-1 home and 2-1 away), counting seven consecutive victories, while Ergin Ataman's team fell to 5-4 (3-1 home and 2-3 away).

The statistics that stood out

Panathinaikos had 0/10 three-pointers, while it did not distribute an assist in the first period. The clover closed the match with 42.9% in two-pointers (15/35), 27.3% in three-pointers (9/33) and 11 assists for 12 mistakes.

6-0 points in surprise, 10-16 points from opponent mistakes and 12-10 points from second chances, with offensive rebounds being 13-13.

The match

Panathinaikos AKTOR entered the match with Slouka, Nan, Osman, Huandzo and Mitoglou, but Ataman pulled the American guard to the bench after only 2′ of the match and after an offensive foul. The greens were extremely inaccurate from behind the 6.75m (0/10 three-pointers), which is why they found themselves behind 20-12 in the quarter, despite having collected 6 offensive rebounds, playing without a regular center.

The gap began to widen sharply and Red Star was at +22 (42-20) in the 17th minute. The guests ran a 12-4 run until the break to reduce to 46-32 (20′).

The situation worsened after halftime, with the home team increasing the difference to 27 points (67-40) in the 30th minute, since Panathinaikos could not do anything right, neither in attack nor in defense.

At the start of the fourth quarter, Nunn was ejected with 5 fouls, leaving his place to Toliopoulos. The Greens made an effort to close the gap and got closer to 74-61 just before the 36th minute. Sloukas kept trying, while the difference fell to 11 (78-67) with 1’23” left.

Ο Παναθηναϊκός AKTOR πήγε σε ειδική αποστολή χωρίς σέντερ κόντρα στην πιο φορμαρισμένη ομάδα της EuroLeague, αλλά έχασε με κάτω τα χέρια (86-68) από τον Ερυθρό Αστέρα στην 9η αγωνιστική.

Ο Παναθηναϊκός AKTOR έχασε πριν καν μπει να παίξει στην Beogradska Arena. Oι πράσινοι ήξεραν εξαρχής ότι θα έχουν δύσκολο έργο, αφού πήγαν στη Σερβία χωρίς να έχουν κανονικό σέντερ στη δωδεκάδα τους, ενώ αντιμετώπιζαν την πιο φορμαρισμένη ομάδα της EuroLeague.

Ωστόσο, δεν εμφανίστηκαν πότε επί της ουσίας στον αγωνιστικό χώρο και έχασαν με 86-68 από τον Ερυθρό Αστέρα στο παιχνίδι με το οποίο άνοιξε η αυλαία της 9ης αγωνιστικής. Η ομάδα του Σάσα Ομπράντοβιτς ανέβηκε έτσι στο 7-2 (5-1 εντός και 2-1 εκτός έδρας), μετρώντας επτά διαδοχικές νίκες, ενώ εκείνη του Εργκίν Αταμάν έπεσε στο 5-4 (3-1 εντός και 2-3 εκτός έδρας).

Ο Παναθηναϊκός AKTOR μπήκε στο ματς με Σλούκα, Ναν, Όσμαν, Χουάντσο και Μήτογλου, όμως ο Αταμάν τράβηξε τον Αμερικανό γκαρντ στον πάγκο μόλις μετά από 2′ αγώνα κι έπειτα από ένα επιθετικό φάουλ. Οι πράσινοι ήταν εξαιρετικά άστοχοι πίσω από τα 6.75μ (0/10 τρίποντα), για αυτό βρέθηκαν πίσω με 20-12 στο δεκάλεπτο, παρότι είχαν μαζέψει 6 επιθετικά ριμπάουντ, παίζοντας χωρίς κανονικό σέντερ.

Η ψαλίδα άρχισε να ανοίγει απότομα και ο Ερυθρός Αστέρας βρέθηκε στο +22 (42-20) στο 17′. Οι φιλοξενούμενοι έτρεξαν ένα επιμέρους 12-4 μέχρι την ανάπαυλα για να μειώσουν σε 46-32 (20′).

Η κατάσταση επιδυνώθηκε μετά το ημίχρονο, με τους γηπεδούχους να εκτοξεύουν τη διαφορά στους 27 πόντους (67-40) στο 30′, αφού ο Παναθηναϊκός δεν μπορούσε να κάνει τίποτα σωστά, ούτε στην επίθεση, ούτε στην άμυνα.
