Son Verstappen also put Ferrari in the “frame” of Max’s future

Ferrari was first mentioned as a possible destination for Max Verstappen in 2027, if he wants to break his contract with Red Bull Racing – through his father, Son Verstappen.

Son Verstappen confirmed, on the sidelines of the Dutch GP, the extensive discussions that the champion’s side had with Mercedes F1 about their possible collaboration in 2027 – while at the same time the door of Aston Martin reportedly remains open for the champion.

Max Verstappen has a contract with Red Bull Racing until the end of 2028, he has repeatedly stated his faith in the Milton Keynes team, but if its car is not competitive in 2027 (with the new technical regulations and the first power unit in RBR's history) it is considered certain that the Dutchman will explore his options.

In these, for the first time, the name of Ferrari was also mentioned, by Verstappen's son. The champion's father is actively participating in the discussions about Max's future after 2027. His possible transfer, moreover, before the end of his contract with RBR may become possible if specific performance conditions of the car are not met by the summer of 2026 – based on Max's position in the standings.

Back to Jos Verstappen, the former Benetton F1 driver told Viaplay that his side’s discussions with Mercedes F1 might not have been the only ones that developed behind the scenes over the summer.

“It’s not that we discussed specific things in detail this year, but we discussed a little more compared to previous years. I’m referring to Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull,” said Jos Verstappen.

This statement put the Scuderia in the “framework” of Max Verstappen’s future for the first time. However, for now, this scenario seems almost absurd for 2027. The Italian team has a contract until 2029 with Charles Leclerc, while Lewis Hamilton has the option to renew his agreement with the Italian team for ‘27.

Max recently stated that since Red Bull is not competitive in 2026, he intends to do some GT racing alongside his F1 commitments. The Dutchman is particularly passionate about these races, and earlier this year he drove one of his racing team’s cars (Verstappen.com) at the old Nurburgring.

Commenting on the rumours, F1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali said: “Max is the best. He is amazing. He has been very loyal to Red Bull, but it is also logical that at some point he will start looking around.

It is clear that he is interested in racing in other institutions. That is fine. If he is happy, I am too. I do not want to lose him here, and I hope not. Formula 1 is Formula 1. As far as I am concerned, he will be here for another decade, and maybe even happily,” the Italian concluded.

Η Ferrari για πρώτη φορά αναφέρθηκε ως ενδεχόμενος προορισμός για τον Μαξ Φερστάπεν το 2027, εφ’ όσον θελήσει να σπάσει το συμβόλαιό του με τη Red Bull Racing – δια στόματος του πατέρα του, Γιός Φερστάπεν.

O Γιος Φερστάπεν επιβεβαίωσε, στο περιθώριο του GP Ολλανδίας, τις εκτεταμένες συζητήσεις που είχε η πλευρά του πρωταθλητή με τη Mercedes F1 για την πιθανή τους συνεργασία το 2027 – ενώ παράλληλα και η πόρτα της Aston Martin φέρεται να παραμένει ανοιχτή για τον πρωταθλητή.

Ο Μαξ Φερστάπεν έχει συμβόλαιο με τη Red Bull Racing έως το τέλος του 2028, δηλώνει επανειλημμένα την πίστη του στην ομάδα του Μίλτον Κινς, αλλά αν το μονοθέσιό της δεν είναι ανταγωνιστικό το 2027 (με το νέο πλαίσιο τεχνικών κανονισμών και την πρώτη μονάδα ισχύος της Ιστορίας της RBR) θεωρείται βέβαιο ότι ο Ολλανδός θα διερευνήσει τις επιλογές του.

Σε αυτές, για πρώτη φορά, αναφέρθηκε και το όνομα της Ferrari, από τον Γιός Φερστάπεν. Ο πατέρας του πρωταθλητή συμμετέχει ενεργά στις συζητήσεις για το μέλλον του Μαξ μετά το 2027. Η πιθανή του μεταγραφή, άλλωστε, πριν το τέλος του συμβολαίου του με την RBR μπορεί να καταστεί εφικτή αν δεν καλυφθούν συγκεκριμένοι όροι απόδοσης του μονοθεσίου μέχρι το καλοκαίρι του 2026 – βάσει της θέσης που θα βρίσκεται ο Μαξ στη βαθμολογία.

Πίσω στον Γιος Φερστάπεν, ο πρώην οδηγός της Benetton F1 δήλωσε στο Viaplay ότι οι συζητήσεις της πλευρά του με τη Mercedes F1 ίσως και να μην ήταν η μοναδικές που εξελίχθηκαν, παρασκηνιακά, το καλοκαίρι.

“Δεν είναι ότι συζητήσαμε συγκεκριμένα πράγματα διεξοδικά φέτος, αλλά συζητήσαμε λίγο περισσότερο σε σχέση με τις προηγούμενες χρονιές. Αναφέρομαι στη Ferrari, στη Mercedes και στη Red Bull”, είπε ο Γιός Φερστάπεν.

Η δήλωση αυτή έβαλε για πρώτη φορά στο “κάδρο” του μέλλοντος του Μαξ Φερστάπεν τη Scuderia. Όμως, προς το παρόν το σενάριο αυτό φαντάζει σχεδόν παράλογο για το 2027. Η ιταλική ομάδα έχει συμβόλαιο μέχρι και το 2029 με τον Σαρλ Λεκλέρ, ενώ ο Λιούις Χάμιλτον έχει στα χέρια του την οψιόν να ανανεώσει τη συμφωνία του με την ιταλική ομάδα για το ‘27.

Πρόσφατα, ο Μαξ δήλωσε ότι εφ’ όσον η Red Bull δεν είναι ανταγωνιστική το 2026, σκοπεύει παράλληλα με τις υποχρεώσεις του στη F1 να κάνει και ορισμένους αγώνες GT. Ο Ολλανδός είναι ιδιαίτερα παθιασμένος με τους αγώνες αυτούς, και νωρίτερα φέτος οδήγησε ένα από τα αυτοκίνητα της αγωνιστικής του ομάδας (Verstappen.com) στο παλιό Nurburgring.

Σχολιάζοντας τις φήμες αυτές, ο διευθύνων σύμβουλος της F1, Στέφανο Ντομενικάλι, είπε: “Ο Μαξ είναι ο καλύτερος. Είναι εκπληκτικός. Έχει φανεί πολύ πιστός στη Red Bull, αλλά είναι επίσης λογικό ότι κάποια στιγμή θα αρχίσει και να κοιτάζει τριγύρω.

Είναι ξεκάθαρο ότι ενδιαφέρεται να αγωνιστεί και σε άλλους θεσμούς. Είναι εντάξει αυτό. Αν είναι εκείνος χαρούμενος, είμαι κι εγώ. Δεν θέλω να τον χάσουμε από εδώ, κι ελπίζω να μην συμβεί. Η Formula 1 είναι η Formula 1. Σε ό,τι με αφορά, θα είναι εδώ για ακόμα μία δεκαετία, και ίσως και χαρούμενος”, κατέληξε ο Ιταλός.
