AEK held the victory in their hands, in the end they did almost everything wrong, they were defeated 83-82 at Dertona's home, but they took first place in their group in the TOP-16 of the Basketball Champions League.
With two results in mind, AEK entered the home of Dertona on Wednesday night (19/3), wanting a win or a loss of up to six points to finish first in their group in the TOP-16 of the Basketball Champions League.
The yellow-blacks touched the positive result, but in the end they were defeated 83-82 by the Italian team, without this bothering them. They locked up the top spot and home-field advantage in the quarterfinals (best-of-three series that will begin on 8/4), one matchday before the final of the second phase, with the hosts missing the chance for first place as Tommaso Baldasso hit a shot 1.3″ before the final instead of missing the pair to claim the +8 in overtime.
Great performance from Hamp, Hale, Kuzminskas, Golden, who dismantled the Italian team and showed that the yellow and blacks should be considered among the favorites for at least the Final Four of the competition. Flionis made the foul in the final, after Hale’s missed three-pointer, so that the match did not go to the extra five minutes.
The match against Promitheas in Patras is now a procedural one for Dragan Sakota's team, while Dertona needs a win over Würzburg to qualify as second in the quarterfinals. The Italians would need the same result even if they lost to AEK.

Η ΑΕΚ κρατούσε την νίκη στα χέρια της, στο τέλος τα έκανε σχεδόν όλα λάθος, ηττήθηκε με 83-82 στην έδρα της Ντερτόνα, αλλά πήρε την πρώτη θέση στον όμιλό της στο TOP-16 του Basketball Champions League.
Με δύο αποτελέσματα στο μυαλό της μπήκε το βράδυ της Τετάρτης (19/3) στην έδρα της Ντερτόνα η ΑΕΚ, η οποία ήθελε νίκη ή ήττα έως έξι πόντους για να τερματίσει πρώτη στον όμιλό της στο TOP-16 του Basketball Champions League.
Οι κιτρινόμαυροι άγγιξαν το θετικό αποτέλεσμα, στο τέλος όμως ηττήθηκαν με 83-82 από την ιταλική ομάδα, χωρίς αυτό να τους στενοχωρήσει. Κλείδωσαν την κορυφή και το πλεονέκτημα έδρας στα προημιτελικά (σειρά best-of-three που θα ξεκινήσει στις 8/4), μία αγωνιστική πριν από το φινάλε της β’ φάσης, με τους γηπεδούχους να χάνουν την ευκαιρία για την πρώτη θέση καθώς ο Τομάσο Μπαλντάσο ευστόχησε σε βολή 1.3″ πριν από το φινάλε αντί να αστοχήσει στο ζευγάρι για να διεκδικήσει η ομάδα του το +8 στην παράταση.
Μεγάλη εμφάνιση από τους Χαμπ, Χέιλ, Κουζμίνσκας, Γκόλντεν, που διέλυσαν την ιταλική ομάδα και έδειξαν ότι οι κιτρινόμαυροι πρέπει να θεωρούνται από τα φαβορί τουλάχιστον για το Final Four της διοργάνωσης. Ο Φλιώνης έκανε το φάουλ στο φινάλε, μετά από άστοχο τρίποντο του Χέιλ, ώστε ο αγώνας να μην πάει στο έξτρα πεντάλεπτο.
Πλέον το ματς με τον Προμηθέα στην Πάτρα έχει διαδικαστικό χαρακτήρα για την ομάδα του Ντράγκαν Σάκοτα, την ώρα που η Ντερτόνα χρειάζεται νίκη επί της Βίρτσμπουργκ για να προκριθεί ως δεύτερη στα προημιτελικά. Οι Ιταλοί θα χρειάζονταν το ίδιο αποτέλεσμα ακόμη και αν έχαναν από την ΑΕΚ.
