F1 - Verstappen: "With a bit of luck we will be against McLaren in the race"
The Dutch world champion is expecting a tough fight at the Spa race after a terrific performance in qualifying.
Max Verstappen did his duty on Saturday at Spa for the Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix. The Dutch Red Bull Racing driver was blazing fast and set the best performance in Q3 of qualifying with a huge gap over the competition.
Verstappen chose a set-up for his car that was ideal for Saturday's rainy conditions. So he will start tomorrow's 44-lap Grand Prix from 11th place, just as he did 12 months ago.

"It was a nice qualifying test. Fortunately the weather was good, it rained a bit but we were able to do good qualifying tests. Everything worked well, with every set of tires we put good times. In Q3 I didn't know if it would dry out so I saved two sets of tires for Q3. I am very happy, the car worked very well in the wet. I did the times and tried to make clear efforts. It's always difficult in the wet to make clean laps. Tomorrow will be a different day, we will have warmer temperatures and probably no rain. Everything will depend on tire wear and we have to make sure we are good at that. I start 10 places further back and today I did the best I could today. I don't know how fast we'll be, I hope we can get into the fight and go far ahead," he said immediately after the end of Q3.

On his approach to tomorrow's race and how he will handle the start, Verstappen said: “The race can be lost in the first corner. It remains to be seen what happens at the start and then build my race from there. It will be a big race and hard on the tires and we have to manage them to be competitive in the race."
As for the result he expects at the Belgian Grand Prix if everything goes according to plan, the 25-year-old said: “We're not taking it easy on ourselves, especially with the battle we're in. I know today was a great day but it was in the wet, we have to be fast in dry conditions. It will be a tough battle and we have to do our best. I hope we can fight with Ferrari and Mercedes and with a bit of luck we will fight against McLaren."

Ο Ολλανδός παγκόσμιος πρωταθλητής περιμένει σκληρή μάχη στον αγώνα του Σπα έπειτα από μία τρομερή εμφάνιση στις κατατακτήριες δοκιμές.
Ο Μαξ Φερστάπεν έκανε το καθήκον του το Σάββατο στο Σπα για το Grand Prix Βελγίου της Formula 1. O Ολλανδός οδηγός της Red Bull Racing ήταν ταχύτατος και σημείωσε την καλύτερη επίδοση στο Q3 των κατατακτήριων δοκιμών έχοντας χαώδη διαφορά από τον ανταγωνισμό.
Ο Φερστάπεν επέλεξε set-up για το μονοθέσιό του το οποίο ήταν ιδανικό για τις βρόχινες συνθήκες του Σαββάτου. Έτσι θα εκκινήσει από την 11η θέση το αυριανό Grand Prix διάρκειας 44 γύρων, όπως ακριβώς έκανε πριν από 12 μήνες.

«Ήταν ωραίες κατατακτήριες δοκιμές. Ευτυχώς ο καιρός ήταν καλός, έβρεχε λίγο αλλά μπορέσαμε να κάνουμε καλές κατατακτήριες δοκιμές. Όλα δούλεψαν καλά, με ό,τι σετ ελαστικών βάλαμε κάναμε καλούς χρόνους. Στο Q3 δεν ήξερα αν θα στεγνώσει κι έτσι έσωσα δύο σετ ελαστικών για το Q3. Είμαι πολύ χαρούμενος, το μονοθέσιο δούλεψε πολύ καλά στο βρεγμένο. Έκανα τους χρόνους και προσπάθησα να κάνω καθαρές προσπάθειες. Είναι πάντα δύσκολο στο βρεγμένο να κάνεις καθαρούς γύρους. Αύριο θα είναι μια διαφορετική ημέρα, θα έχουμε υψηλότερες θερμοκρασίες και λογικά καθόλου βροχή. Όλα θα εξαρτηθούν από τη φθορά των ελαστικών και πρέπει να διασφαλίσουμε πως θα είμαστε καλοί σε αυτό. Ξεκινάω 10 θέσεις πιο πίσω και σήμερα έκανα το καλύτερο που μπορούσα σήμερα. Δεν ξέρω πόσο γρήγοροι θα είμαστε, ελπίζω να μπούμε στη μάχη και να πάμε πολύ μπροστά», ανέφερε αμέσως μετά το τέλος του Q3.

Για την προσέγγισή του στον αυριανό αγώνα και το πώς θα διαχειριστεί την εκκίνηση, ο Φερστάπεν είπε: «Ο αγώνας μπορεί να χαθεί στην πρώτη στροφή. Μένει να δούμε τι θα γίνει στην εκκίνηση και μετά να χτίσω τον αγώνα μου από εκεί. Θα είναι μεγάλος αγώνας και επίπονος για τα ελαστικά και πρέπει να τα διαχειριστούμε για να είμαστε ανταγωνιστικοί στον αγώνα».
Όσο για το αποτέλεσμα που περιμένει στο Grand Prix Βελγίου εφόσον όλα πάνε με βάση το πρόγραμμα, ο 25χρονος είπε: «Δεν βάζουμε εύκολα στους εαυτούς μας, ειδικά με τη μάχη στην οποία βρισκόμαστε. Γνωρίζω πως σήμερα ήταν μια φοβερή ημέρα όμως ήταν στο βρεγμένο, πρέπει να είμαστε γρήγοροι και σε στεγνές συνθήκες. Θα είναι μια δύσκολη μάχη και πρέπει να κάνουμε το καλύτερο που μπορούμε. Ελπίζω να παλέψουμε με τις Ferrari και τις Mercedes και με λίγη τύχη θα κοντράρουμε τις McLaren».
