The start of the second half was another story. Η «βασίλισσα» επικράτησε δύσκολα με 73-67 του Ερυθρού Αστέρα στο Βελιγράδι για την 8η αγωνιστική της Euroleague και φτάνοντας τις τρεις συνεχόμενες νίκες, βελτίωσε το ρεκόρ της σε 4-4. Από την άλλη, οι Σέρβοι, οι οποίοι γνώρισαν την τρίτη συνεχόμενη ήττα τους, έπεσαν στο 3-5.

Κορυφαίος των νικητών ήταν ο Ράντολφ, ο οποίος πέτυχε 13 πόντους και μάζεψε 6 ριμπάουντ, ενώ καθοριστική, όπως αποδείχθηκε εκ του αποτελέσματος, ήταν η συμβολή του Τόμπκινς, ο οποίος τελείωσε τον αγώνα με 14 πόντους και 6 ριμπάουντ. Από πλευράς ηττημένων, κορυφαίος και πρώτος σκόρερ του αγώνα ήταν ο Λόιντ με 22 πόντους.

Ο Ερυθρός Αστέρας μπήκε πιο συγκεντρωμένος από τη Ρεάλ Μαδρίτης και όντας πιο εύστοχος στην επίθεση (5/7 εντός πεδιάς έναντι 2/6), προηγήθηκε 13-5 στο 5’, αναγκάζοντας τον Πάμπλο Λάσο να καλέσει τάιμ άουτ για να σταματήσει τον ρυθμό των Σέρβων. Φευ… Οι γηπεδούχοι έφτασαν και στο +13 (21-8), με πρωταγωνιστή τον Λόιντ, που είχε ήδη 8 πόντους. Κάπου εκεί ήρθε η αντίδραση. Πετυχαίνοντας 11 αναπάντητους πόντους, η «βασίλισσα» μείωσε σε 21-19, ενάμισι λεπτό πριν το τέλος της πρώτης περιόδου, που ολοκληρώθηκε με σκορ 26-21.

Στο πρώτο μισό του δευτέρου δεκαλέπτου οι δύο ομάδες ήταν νευρικές και άστοχες, όπως φαίνεται από το επιμέρους 9-6. Το ξεκίνημα του δευτέρου ημιχρόνου ήταν μια άλλη… ιστορία. Η Ρεάλ Μαδρίτης μπήκε με το «πόδι στο γκάζι» και με μπροστάρηδες τους Ράντολφ και Καμπάτσο «έτρεξε» ένα μεγάλο σερί 18-4, που την έφερε σε θέση ισχύος (46-54). Ο Ερυθρός Αστέρας έμοιαζε υπνωτισμένος και ανήμπορος να αντιδράσει, με αποτέλεσμα να είναι αυτός που κυνηγάει στο σκορ. Σε εκείνο το σημείο υπήρξε αντίδραση και με μικρό σερί 7-2 μείωσε σε 53-56, μην αφήνοντας τους φιλοξενούμενους να ξεφύγουν περισσότερο.

Με τη διαφορά στο -6 (53-59) ξεκίνησε το τέταρτο και τελευταίο δεκάλεπτο του αγώνα. Τα πρώτο πεντάλεπτο ήταν… καρμπόν με το δεύτερο, αφού οι δύο ομάδες ήταν άστοχες και το επιμέρους σκορ ήταν το «φτωχό» 6-5. Όμως, μέσα σε ένα λεπτό, οι Σέρβοι έκαναν ένα γρήγορο 6-0 και προσπέρασαν ξανά τη Ρεάλ με 65-64, τέσσερα λεπτά πριν το φινάλε. Ο Πάμπλο Λάσο πήρε τάιμ άουτ και στη συνέχεια ο Τόμπκινς με «κρύο αίμα» και δύο συνεχόμενα τρίποντα έκανε το 65-70, τρία λεπτά πριν το τέλος.

Από εκείνο το σημείο και μετά, οι παίκτες των δύο ομάδων έδωσαν ρεσιτάλ λαθών και άστοχων σουτ και ο πρώτος πόντος μπήκε με βολή του Καμπάτσο, 17’’ πριν το φινάλε, για να γίνει το 65-71. Οι γηπεδούχοι έκαναν την απέλπιδα προσπάθεια, αλλά δεν τα κατάφεραν, με τη Ρεάλ Μαδρίτης να παίρνει, έστω και με άγχος, το ροζ φύλλο αγώνα.
