The ATP world rankings would be quite different if the deduction of points did not freeze. See how the top ten would have been formed.

This year, the ATP made a very important decision which all the players accepted with satisfaction and it was the "freezing" of the ranking.

From March when the professional tours stopped, until the end of the racing season, the athletes did not have to defend last year's points in the tournaments they competed in and the deduction of points did not apply. For example, Rafael Nadal, who won the US Open 2019, did not lose 2000 points, although he did not play at all in this year's tournament. An exception was the ATP Finals which is a "special" tournament.

It will be interesting, then, to see what the ATP world rankings would have been like if the ATP Rankings had not been "frozen".

Returning to the classic system, Novak Djokovic retains his place at the top of the standings, but Rafael Nadal, who has played in just six tournaments this year, would finish in 3rd place behind Dominic Tim, just 25 points behind 4th. Medvedev!

Another important change in the Top10 would be the big drop of Roger Federer who now finished in 5th place but under normal circumstances, if he had to play from February, he would end the year at No. 29!

Also, Tsitsipas would finish the year in 7th place and not in the 6th that he finished, while Milos Raonic and Pablo Karenio Busta would be members of the Top10.

Αρκετές διαφορές θα είχε η παγκόσμια κατάταξη της ATP εάν δεν πάγωνε η αφαίρεση βαθμών. Δείτε πως θα είχε διαμορφωθεί η πρώτη δεκάδα.

Φέτος, η ATP πήρε μια πολύ σημαντική απόφαση την οποία όλοι οι παίκτες δέχθηκαν με ικανοποίηση και ήταν το "πάγωμα" της κατάταξης.

Από τον Μάρτιο όταν σταμάτησαν τα επαγγελματικά tour, μέχρι την ολοκλήρωση της αγωνιστικής σεζόν, οι αθλητές δεν χρειάζοταν να υπερασπιστούν τους περσινούς βαθμούς στα τουρνουά που αγωνίστηκαν και δεν ίσχυε η αφαίρεση πόντων. Για παράδειγμα, ο Ράφαελ Ναδάλ που κατέκτησε το US Open 2019, δεν έχασε 2000 πόντους αν και δεν αγωνίστηκε καθόλου στη φετινή διοργάνωση. Εξαίρεση αποτέλεσε το ATP Finals που είναι ένα "ειδικό" τουρνουά.

Θα έχει ενδιαφέρον, λοιπόν, να δούμε πως θα ήταν η παγκόσμια κατάταξη της ATP, αν δεν είχε "παγώσει" η ATP Rankings.

Κάνοντας την αναγωγή στο κλασικό σύστημα, ο Νόβακ Τζόκοβιτς διατηρεί τη θέση του στην κορυφή της κατάταξης, ωστόσο ο Ράφαελ Ναδάλ που αγωνίστηκε σε μόλις έξι τουρνουά φέτος, θα τερμάτιζε στην 3η θέση πίσω από τον Ντόμινικ Τιμ και με μόλις 25 πόντους διαφορά από τον 4ο Μεντβέντεφ!

Άλλη μια σημαντική αλλαγή του Top10 θα ήταν η μεγάλη πτώση του Ρότζερ Φέντερερ ο οποίος τώρα τερμάτισε στην 5η θέση αλλά υπό κανονικές συνθήκες, αν είχε να αγωνιστεί από τον Φεβρουάριο, θα ολοκλήρωνε τη χρονιά στο Νο29!

Επίσης, ο Τσιτσιπάς θα ολοκλήρωνε τη χρονιά στην 7η θέση και όχι στην 6η που τερμάτισε τελικά ενώ Μίλος Ράονιτς και Πάμπλο Καρένιο Μπούστα θα ήταν μέλη του Top10.
