Η αναμέτρηση του Northwestern με το Michigan αποτελούσε πρόκληση για τους πρώτους, καθώς έχουν να νικήσουν την ομάδα του Michigan 49 χρόνια. 49 χρόνια που έληξαν με το “καλύτερο παιχνίδι στην ιστορία του Northwestern” σύμφωνα με έναν πανευτυχή οπαδό.
Με 1.7 δευτερόλεπτα να απομένουν για τη λήξη του παιχνιδιού, ο τεταρτοετής φόργουορντ του Northwestern, Νέιθαν Τάφορν είχε αναλάβει την επαναφορά από την γραμμή του γηπέδου. Με λίγο χρόνο να απομένει, πέταξε την μπάλα φτάνοντας την στην άλλη πλευρά του γηπέδου και στον σέντερ Ντέρεκ Πάρντον, που πρόλαβε να την πιάσει και να κάνει το λει απ που διαμόρφωσε το τελικό σκορ!
Το καλάθι προκάλεσε τον πανικό στους οπαδούς του Northwestern, που θα δουν για πρώτη φορά την ομάδα τους να ταξιδεύει για την τελική φάση του NCAA.
