Οι νταμπλούχοι Ελλάδος αρχίζουν το ταξίδι τους -που ευελπιστούν να τους βρει στους ομίλους της κορυφαίας διοργάνωσης- απέναντι στον νικητή του ζευγαριού Ντινάμο Ζάγκρεμπ-Αστάνα. Να σημειωθεί ότι το πρώτο παιχνίδι θα διεξαχθεί στη Νέα Φιλαδέλφεια στις 8 ή στις 9 Αυγούστου, ενώ η ρεβάνς στις 15 του ίδιου μήνα.

Υπενθυμίζεται ότι εφόσον η Ντινάμο επιβεβαιώσει τον τίτλο του φαβορί και τεθεί αντιμέτωπη με την ΑΕΚ και εν συνεχεία η «Ένωση» την αποκλείσει, τότε η ομάδα του Ματίας Αλμέιδα θα συμμετάσχει ως ισχυρή στην κλήρωση για τα Playoffs (η οποία θα λάβει χώρα στις 7 Αυγούστου).

Σε κάθε περίπτωση, η ΑΕΚ έχει εξασφαλισμένη την παρουσία της σε όμιλο ευρωπαϊκής διοργάνωσης -άρα και επιστροφής σ' αυτούς μετά το 2020- καθώς στο απευκταίο σενάριο δύο αποκλεισμών (στον 3ο προκριματικό του Champions League και στα Playoffs του Europa League), τότε θα συμμετάσχει στο Conference League.
