AEK lost in Ankara to Turk Telekom 78-66, failed to defend even the +9 of OAKA and was eliminated prematurely by the BCL.
The worst possible scenario was written for AEK in Ankara. Not only did it suffer the defeat by Turk Telekom, but with the final 78-66 it did not defend even the +9 of OAKA and in combination with the victory of Strasbourg over Nizhny in Russia (87-97) it was left out of the Final 8 early.
Condemnation for the "Union" the problem in rebounds, as he offered 16 forwards and conceded 13 points from second attacks. Moses Kingsley was saved with 18 points, "executioner" Kyle Wilger with 24 points. Η ΑΕΚ έχασε στην Άγκυρα από την Τουρκ Τέλεκομ με 78-66, δεν κατάφερε να υπερασπιστεί ούτε το +9 του ΟΑΚΑ και αποκλείστηκε πρόωρα από το BCL.
Το χειρότερο δυνατό σενάριο γράφτηκε για την ΑΕΚ στην Άγκυρα. Όχι απλώς γνώρισε την ήττα από την Τουρκ Τέλεκομ, αλλά με το τελικό 78-66 δεν υπερασπίστηκε ούτε το +9 του ΟΑΚΑ και σε συνδυασμό με τη νίκη της Στρασμπούρ επί της Νίζνι στη Ρωσία (87-97) έμεινε πρόωρα εκτός Final 8.
Καταδικαστικό για την «Ένωση» το πρόβλημα στα ριμπάουντ, καθώς πρόσφερε 16 επιθετικά και δέχτηκε 13 πόντους από δεύτερες επιθέσεις. Διασώθηκε ο Μόουζες Κίνγκσλεϊ με 18 πόντους, «δήμιος» ο Κάιλ Γουίλτζερ με 24 πόντους. Νοκ άουτ από το ξεκίνημα με ενοχλήσεις ο Ματ Λοτζέσκι, πολύ άστοχοι Λάνγκφορντ και Μέικον, εμφανώς ανέτοιμος ο Μορέιρα.
Διαδικαστικού χαρακτήρα το ματς της επόμενης Τετάρτης με την Νίζνι στο ΟΑΚΑ. Μόνο το πρωτάθλημα απέμεινε πλέον στην ΑΕΚ.
Το ματς
Κατσίβελης, Λάνγκφορντ, Λοτζέσκι, Ματσιούλις και Μορέιρα άρχισαν το ματς για την ΑΕΚ και ο «ζεστός» Λιθουανός με δύο τρίποντα έφερε νωρίς την ομάδα του σε θέση οδηγού (6-10). Η «Ένωση» έδειχνε να έχει τον έλεγχο του ρυθμού, ωστόσο τα γρήγορα δύο φάουλ του Μορέιρα και οι κακές επιλογές στην επίθεση επέτρεψαν στους γηπεδούχους να τρέξουν και να προσπεράσουν (14-12) με τρίποντο του Φόστερ. Ένα επιθετικό ξέσπασμα επανέφερε τους φιλοξενούμενους στην πρωτοπορία (14-17), αλλά το… ορειβατικό τρίποντο του Φόστερ και μια βολή του Γκεγίκ έκλεισαν το δεκάλεπτο για την Τουρκ Τέλεκομ στο 18-17.
Το πρόβλημα στο ριμπάουντ (6 επιθετικά η Τουρκ Τέλεκομ στα πρώτα 12 λεπτά) και το αμυντικό τρανζίσιον έδωσε το δικαίωμα στους γηπεδούχους να ξεφύγουν με 29-20 με τους Τζόνσον και Γουίλτζερ να κάνουν ζημιά στους «κιτρινόμαυρους», που ήταν πολύ άστοχοι από μακριά (0/7 σερί άστοχα τρίποντα). Ο Μωραΐτης με ένα κλέψιμο κι ένα τρίποντο έδωσε… σπίθα στην ΑΕΚ που πλησίασε (30-26), ωστόσο οι «βόμβες» Ο’ Μπράιαντ και Γουίλτζερ εκτόξευσαν τη διαφορά και πάλι (39-31). Οι δημιουργίες του νεαρού γκαρντ όμως για Μόουζες και Μορέιρα οδήγησαν ξανά στο -3 (39-36) στο φινάλε του ημιχρόνου.
Ένα προσωπικό 4-0 του Λάνγκφορντ έφερε την «Ένωση» μπροστά με την εκκίνηση της τρίτης περιόδου (39-40), αλλά ακολούθως έμεινε άσφαιρη για τέσσερα λεπτά, με αποτέλεσμα η Τουρκ Τέλεκομ με τον ασταμάτητο Γουίλτζερ να αποσπαστεί ξανά, 49-42. Η ΑΕΚ αναλώθηκε σε κακές επιθετικές επιλογές, με πολύ ένας εναντίον ενός από Λάνγκφορντ και Μέικον, με αποτέλεσμα να βρεθεί στο -9, 55-46, στο τέλος του δεκαλέπτου.
Το πρόβλημα του αμυντικού ριμπάουντ παρέμεινε άλυτο για την ΑΕΚ, με τους γηπεδούχους εκμεταλλευόμενους δύο και τρεις έξτρα κατοχές να φτάνουν στο 64-53, έξι λεπτά πριν το τέλος. Την ίδια ώρα, η επίθεση της «Ένωσης» ήταν στατική και αναποτελεσματική, με το αντιαθλητικό του εμφανώς ανέτοιμου Μορέιρα στον Τζόνσον να εκτοξεύει την Τουρκ Τέλεκομ στο 70-55, τρία λεπτά πριν το τέλος. Με μοναδικό κίνητρο πλέον να ρίξουν τη διαφορά στους εννιά, οι «κιτρινόμαυροι» πάλεψαν ως το τέλος. Το κλέψιμο του Ματσιούλις που κέρδισε κι αντιαθλητικό μαζί με το φοβερό κάρφωμα του Μόουζες έφεραν τη διαφορά ακριβώς εκεί, 72-63, στα 59’’ για το τέλος. Ο Νιγηριανός με γκολ-φάουλ έκανε το 74-66 στα 48’’ πριν τη λήξη, αλλά το καλάθι του Γκεγίκ και το άστοχο τρίποντο του Μόουζες έκαναν ζημιά στην ΑΕΚ, που έμεινε εκτός συνέχειας του BCL.
