Shiner - Zverev 3-1: He retained his Wimbledon crown

Yannick Shiner returned to action after the Roland Garros adventure and, defeating Alexander Zverev with 3-1 sets, retained the title of champion at Wimbledon.

Yannick Shiner is here again, the 24-year-old Italian, having left behind the problems he faced in May at Roland Garros, is celebrating another Grand Slam title, as he defeated Alexander Zverev with 6-7(7), 7-6(2), 6-3, 6-4 to remain champion at Wimbledon.

At the same time, the Italian reached five Grand Slam titles and opened up more of the gap between Zverev (No.2) and the absent Carlos Alcaraz (No.3) at the top of the world rankings.

Zverev was coming off the Roland Garros title, aspiring to become the first player in the Open Era to win his second major title in a Grand Slam tournament immediately after his first, but he couldn't hold on.

He took the 1st set, but from the moment he couldn't threaten Sinner's serve (he only had one missed break opportunity in the 2nd set), he grew more tired in the course of the final and was ultimately defeated after a duel of three hours and 46 minutes.

Sinner, although he ran more (2,590m vs. 2,440m), had the freshness and substance in his game with a decisive break in the 3rd and 4th sets. He finished the final with 58 winners (Zverev 49), made 20 fewer unforced errors (25 vs. 45), took fewer risks, but when needed, he turned things up and dominated.

Zverev leads in tie break

The players held the first two service games without any problems, for 2-2. In the 5th game, Siner was at 0-30, but with four points in a row, he made it 3-2.

Zverev responded with a love game (3-3), with the German facing the first break point in the 8th game (30-40), but he had the solutions to level at 4-4.

Siner took the lead again at 5-4 and with a love game he made it 6-5, with Zverev sending the set to a tie break. There the players defended their serve for 15 points, with Zverev reaching set point first (8-7) and with a forehand winner after Sinner's serve, winning the 1st set 7-6(7).

Sinner responded in kind

The 2nd set went by without a break point, with Zverev holding a solid one-game lead and Sinner equalizing and sending the set to a tie break: There the Italian led 4-0, 6-2 and at the first opportunity closed the proceedings and the set 7-6(2). What is remarkable is that the winners in the first two sets were almost the same: 18-16 and 18-15 in favor of Sinner.

The first break and upset for Sinner

The 3rd set went at the same pace, with Zverev equalizing Sinner's lead (3-3). In the 7th game, Sinner responded at 0-30, but Zverev found his first opportunity for a break point in the final, he did not take advantage of it, with the Italian making it 4-3.

Unlike Sinner who managed it immediately afterwards, the Italian succeeded in his 2nd opportunity for a break in the final, escaping with 5-3 and serving with a love game to win the 3rd set with 6-3.

A new break also brought the title

In the first two service games of the 4th set, Zverev threatened Sinner's serve. In the first case, the German responded to Schiner's 40-0, in the second he led 0-30, but the Italian had the solutions, for 1-1 and 2-2.

After 3-3 Schiner reached the desired goal, although he wasted a double break point (15-40), in the new opportunity he found in the game, he achieved the break, passing with 4-3.

The Italian escaped with a love game at 5-3, Zverev reduced to 5-4 and made a desperate effort in the 10th game, leading 15-30, but Schiner with two forehand winners and in between an effortless error by his opponent, won the game, the set (6-4) and the title.

Ο Γιάνικ Σίνερ μετά την περιπέτεια του Roland Garros, επέστρεψε στη δράση και νικώντας τον Αλεξάντερ Ζβέρεφ με 3-1 σετ, διατήρησε τον τίτλο του πρωταθλητή στο Wimbledon.

O Γιάνικ Σίνερ είναι και πάλι εδώ, ο 24χρονος Ιταλός έχοντας αφήσει πίσω του τα προβλήματα που αντιμετώπισε τον Μάιο στο Roland Garros, πανηγυρίζει έναν ακόμη τίτλο Grand Slam, καθώς νικώντας τον Αλεξάντερ Ζβέρεφ με 6-7(7), 7-6(2), 6-3, 6-4 παρέμεινε πρωταθλητής στο Wimbledon.

Παράλληλα, ο Ιταλός έφθασε στους πέντε τίτλους στα Grand Slam κι άνοιξε περισσότερο τη διαφορά από τον Ζβέρεφ (Νο.2) και τον απόντα Κάρλος Αλκαράθ (Νο.3) στην κορυφή της παγκόσμιας κατάταξης.

Ο Ζβέρεφ προερχόταν από τον τίτλο στο Roland Garros, φιλοδοξούσε να γίνει ο πρώτος παίκτης στην Open Era, που θα κέρδιζε τον δεύτερο μεγάλο τίτλο του σε τουρνουά Grand Slam αμέσως μετά τον πρώτο του, όμως δεν άντεξε.

Πήρε το 1ο σετ, όμως από τη στιγμή που δεν μπόρεσε να απειλήσει το σερβίς του Σίνερ (είχε μόλις μια χαμένη ευκαιρία για break στο 2ο σετ), στην πορεία του τελικού έβγαλε περισσότερη κούραση και στο τέλος ηττήθηκε έπειτα από μονομαχία τριών ωρών και 46 λεπτών.

Ο Σίνερ αν κι έτρεξε περισσότερο (2.590μ. έναντι 2.440μ.) είχε τη φρεσκάδα και την ουσία στο παιχνίδι του με ένα καθοριστικό break στο 3ο και στο 4ο σετ. Τελείωσε τον τελικό με 58 winners (49 ο Ζβέρεφ), υπέπεσε σε 20 λιγότερα αβίαστα λάθη (25 έναντι 45), πήρε λιγότερο ρίσκο, όταν όμως χρειάστηκε, ανέβασε στροφές και κυριάρχησε.

Προβάδισμα Ζβέρεφ στο tie break

Οι παίκτες διατήρησαν χωρίς προβλήματα τα δύο πρώτα service games, για το 2-2. Στο 5ο game o Σίνερ βρέθηκε στο 0-30, όμως με τέσσερις στη σειρά πόντους, έκανε το 3-2.

Ο Ζβέρεφ απάντησε με love game (3-3), με τον Γερμανό να αντιμετωπίζει πρώτος break point στο 8ο game (30-40), όμως είχε τις λύσεις για να ισοφαρίσει σε 4-4.

Ο Σίνερ πήρε ξανά την πρωτοπορία με 5-4 και με love game έκανε το 6-5, με τον Ζβέρεφ να στέλνει το σετ στο tie break. Εκεί οι παίκτες για 15 πόντους υπερασπίστηκαν το σερβίς τους, με τον Ζβέρεφ να φθάνει πρώτος σε set point (8-7) και με a forehand winner μετά το σερβίς του Σίνερ, να κατακτά το 1ο σετ με 7-6(7).

Ο Σίνερ απάντησε με το ίδιο νόμισμα

To 2o σετ κύλησε χωρίς ίχνος break point, με τον Ζβέρεφ να έχει σταθερά προβάδισμα ενός game και τον Σίνερ να ισοφαρίζει και να στέλνει το σετ στο tie break: Εκεί ο Ιταλός προηγήθηκε με 4-0, 6-2 και στην πρώτη ευκαιρία έκλεισε τη διαδικασία και το set με 7-6(2). Το αξιοσημείωτο είναι ότι οι winners στα δύο πρώτα σετ ήταν σχεδόν οι ίδιοι: 18-16 και 18-15 υπέρ του Σίνερ.

Το πρώτο break κι ανατροπή για Σίνερ

Στους ίδιους ρυθμούς κύλησε το 3ο σετ, με τον Ζβέρεφ να ισοφαρίζει στο προβάδισμα του Σίνερ (3-3). Στο 7ο game o Σίνερ απάντησε στο 0-30, όμως ο Ζβέρεφ βρήκε την πρώτη του ευκαιρία για break point στον τελικό, δεν την εκμεταλλεύτηκε, με τον Ιταλό να κάνει το 4-3.

Αντίθετα με τον Σίνερ που το κατάφερε αμέσως μετά, ο Ιταλός στη 2η ευκαιρία για break στον τελικό το πέτυχε, ξέφυγε με 5-3 και σερβίροντας με love game κατέκτησε το 3ο σετ με 6-3.

Νέο break έφερε και τον τίτλο

Στα δύο πρώτα service games του 4ου σετ, ο Ζβέρεφ απείλησε το σερβίς του Σίνερ. Στην πρώτη περίπτωση ο Γερμανός απάντησε στο 40-0 του Σίνερ, στη δεύτερη προηγήθηκε με 0-30, όμως ο Ιταλός είχε τις λύσεις, για το 1-1 και το 2-2.

Μετά και το 3-3 ο Σίνερ έφθασε στο ζητούμενο, αν και σπατάλησε διπλό break point (15-40), στη νέα ευκαιρία που βρήκε στο game, πέτυχε το break, προσπερνώντας με 4-3.

Ο Ιταλός με love game ξέφυγε με 5-3, ο Ζβέρεφ μείωσε σε 5-4 κι έκανε την απέλπιδα προσπάθεια στο 10ο game, προηγήθηκε 15-30, όμως ο Σίνερ με δύο forehand winners κι ενδιάμεσα ένα αβίαστο λάθος του αντιπάλου του, κατέκτησε το game, το σετ (6-4) και τον τίτλο.
