With an impressive 27-12 in the fourth period, Panathinaikos defeated Red Star 82-74 and took a big step towards the EuroLeague top six.

Having a magical fourth period in defense and offense (27-12), Panathinaikos AKTOR found itself from hell to heaven and beat Red Star 82-74, after overturning a 12-point difference (50-62, 28′). Kendrick Nunn woke up at the right time, the three-pointers started coming in and the Greens got a golden result in their attempt to directly qualify for the EuroLeague playoffs, with six more games left until the end of the regular season.

The clover rose to 18-14 (11-6 home and 7-8 away) and caught the red and whites of Belgrade who have the same record (12-5 home and 6-9 away). However, in a possible tie, Ergin Ataman's team will be behind, since they had lost in Serbia by 18 points.

The statistics that stood out

Cody Miller-McIntyre had 5 points and 5 assists in the first 6’30” of the game, while at the end of the first half the statistics showed 4-6 points from opponent errors and 4-6 points from second chances, with Panathinaikos only outperforming in points from surprise (9-4).

The Greens had 4/16 three-pointers in the 30′, but they scored 6/11 in the fourth period and changed the course of the match.

The match

Panathinaikos started with Grant, Nunn, Osman, Hayes-Davis, Lesor and led 6-4. Red Star responded with a 7-0 run for 6-11 (3’30”), but the Greens tied the score (11-11, 5′), with a shot by the American forward from an assist by the French center. The home team took a 20-19 lead at 8:30, but the red and white team went on an 8-0 run to make it 20-27 (10′), with two consecutive three-pointers by Butler.

Saša Obradović’s team found itself at +9 (20-29) at 11′. Farid scored 6 consecutive points for Panathinaikos and made it 28-33, while Rogavopoulos reduced it to 30-33 midway through the second period. However, the score at the end of the first half was 41-48.

The two teams made consecutive mistakes at the start of the second half, until Osman made a three-pointer to make it 44-48 after 2:46. By the 25th minute, the cloverleaf came within a basket, with Hayes-Davis providing solutions aggressively. Three missed three-pointers and two fouls gave Red Star the opportunity to take a double-digit lead for the first time (50-62, 28′). A foul goal by Nan and a basket by Rogavopoulos brought the greens to -7 (55-62) at 30′.

With five points from Nan and a three-pointer from Hayes-Davis, Panathinaikos found itself within striking distance again (63-65, 32′). The greens made consecutive good defenses and Nan made two more three-pointers to bring his team to +4 (69-65). The Serbian club reduced the deficit to 72-71 at 36’40”, but Juancho was there to score from behind from 6.75m.

Κάνοντας μια μαγική τέταρτη περίοδο σε άμυνα και επίθεση (27-12), ο Παναθηναϊκός AKTOR βρέθηκε από την κόλαση στον παράδεισο και κέρδισε τον Ερυθρό Αστέρα με 82-74, αφού ανέτρεψε διαφορά 12 πόντων (50-62, 28′). Ο Κέντρικ Ναν ξύπνησε την κατάλληλη στιγμή, τα τρίποντα άρχισαν να μπαίνουν και οι πράσινοι πήραν ένα αποτελέσμα χρυσάφι στην προσπάθεια που κάνουν για την απευθείας πρόκριση στα playoffs της EuroLeague, με άλλα έξι ματς να απομένουν για το τέλος της regular season.

Το τριφύλλι ανέβηκε έτσι στο 18-14 (11-6 εντός και 7-8 εκτός έδρας) και έπιασε τους ερυθρολεύκους του Βελιγραδίου που έχουν ίδιο ρεκόρ (12-5 εντός και 6-9 εκτός έδρας). Ωστόσο, σε πιθανή ισοβαθμία, η ομάδα του Εργκίν Αταμάν θα υστερεί, αφού στη Σερβία είχε χάσει με 18 πόντους. 

Τα στατιστικά που ξεχώρισαν

Ο Κόντι Μίλερ-ΜακΙντάιρ είχε 5 πόντους και 5 ασίστ στα πρώτα 6’30” του αγώνα, ενώ στο τέλος του πρώτου μέρους η στατιστική έδειχνε 4-6 οι πόντοι από λάθη αντιπάλου και 4-6 οι πόντοι δεύτερης ευκαιρίας, με τον Παναθηναϊκό να υπερτερεί μόνο στους πόντους από αιφνιδιασμό (9-4).

Οι πράσινοι είχε 4/16 τρίποντα στο 30′, αλλά έβαλαν 6/11 στην τέταρτη περίοδο και άλλαξαν το ρου της αναμέτρησης.

Ο αγώνας

Ο Παναθηναϊκός ξεκίνησε με Γκραντ, Ναν, Όσμαν, Χέιζ-Ντέιβις, Λεσόρ και προηγήθηκε με 6-4. Ο Ερυθρός Αστέρας απάντησε με σερί 7-0 για το 6-11 (3’30”), αλλά οι πράσινοι ισοφάρισαν (11-11, 5′), με κάρφωμα του Αμερικανού φόργουορντ από ασίστ του Γάλλου σέντερ. Οι γηπεδούχοι προσπέρασαν με 20-19 στο 8’30”, όμως ακολούθησε ένα ερυθρόλευκο 8-0 για το 20-27 (10′), με δύο διαδοχικά τρίποντα του Μπάτλερ.

Η ομάδα του Σάσα Ομπράντοβιτς βρέθηκε στο +9 (20-29) στο 11′. Ο Φαρίντ έβαλε 6 συνεχόμενους πόντους για τον Παναθηναϊκό και έγραψε το 28-33, ενώ ο Ρογκαβόπουλος μείωσε σε 30-33 στα μέσα της δεύτερης περιόδου. Το σκορ στο φινάλε του πρώτου μέρους έγραψε όμως 41-48.

Οι δύο ομάδες έκαναν διαδοχικά λάθη στο ξεκίνημα του β’ μέρους, μέχρι που ο Όσμαν έβαλε τρίποντο για το 44-48 μετά από 2’46”. Μέχρι το 25′ το τριφύλλι πλησίασε σε απόσταση ενός καλαθιού, με τον Χέιζ-Ντέιβις να δίνει λύσεις επιθετικά. Τρία χαμένα τρίποντα και δυο λάθη έδωσαν την ευκαιρία στον Ερυθρό Αστέρα να πάρει για πρώτη φορά διψήφιο προβάδισμα (50-62, 28′). Ένα γκολ-φάουλ του Ναν κι ένα καλάθι του Ρογκαβόπουλου έφεραν τους πράσινους στο -7 (55-62) στο 30′.

Με πέντε πόντους του Ναν κι ένα τρίποντο του Χέιζ-Ντέιβις, ο Παναθηναϊκός βρέθηκε ξανά σε απόσταση αναπνοής (63-65, 32′). Οι πράσινοι έβγαλαν συνεχόμενες καλές άμυνες και ο Ναν έβαλε δύο ακόμα τρίποντα για να φέρει την ομάδα του στο +4 (69-65).
