Qingwen Zheng with the first career victory over Aryna Sabalenka, with 2-0 sets, advanced to the semifinals of the Rome Masters.

Qingwen Zheng counted six defeats against Aryna Sabalenka, but their 7th meeting was also the... lucky one, the Chinese woman performed exceptionally and prevailed with 6-4, 6-3 and will be the one to face Coco Gauff in the semifinals on Thursday (15/5).

The Paris Olympic champion had all the answers against Sabalenka, who did not take advantage of any of the five break opportunities she had.

Zheng saved a break to level the score at 2-2 and immediately broke Sabalenka's serve with a love game, taking a 3-2 lead. At the crucial point, she held her serve for 4-2, held the lead for 5-3 and in the 10th game closed the set with 6-4.

In the 2nd set, Zheng led 2-0, reaching 4-2, in the crucial 8th game, the Belarusian lost a double break point, with Zheng making it 5-3 and then with her 3rd break of the game, winning the 20th set with 6-3.

In the other semifinal on Thursday (15/5), Jasmine Paolini will play Peyton Stearns.

H Κινγουέν Ζενγκ με την πρώτη νίκη καριέρας επί της Αρίνα Σαμπαλένκα, με 2-0 σετ, πέρασε στα ημιτελικά στο Masters της Ρώμης.

Η Κινγουέν Ζενγκ μετρούσε έξι ήττες με αντίπαλο την Αρίνα Σαμπαλένκα, όμως η 7η συνάντησή τους ήταν και η... τυχερή, η Κινέζα αποδίδοντας εξαιρετικά επικράτησε με 6-4, 6-3 και θα είναι αυτή που θα αντιμετωπίσει την Κόκο Γκοφ στα ημιτελικά την Πέμπτη (15/5).

Η ολυμπιονίκης τoυ Παρισιού είχε όλες τις απαντήσεις απέναντι στη Σαμπαλένκα, η οποία δεν εκμεταλλεύτηκε καμία από τις πέντε ευκαιρίες που είχε για break.

Η Ζενγκ σώζοντας break ισοφάρισε σε 2-2 κι αμέσως μετά «έσπασε» το σερβίς της Σαμπαλένκα, με love game, προσπερνώντας με 3-2. Στο κρίσιμο σημείο διατήρησε το σερβίς της για το 4-2, κράτησε το προβάδισμα για το 5-3 και στο 10 game έκλεισε το σετ με 6-4.

Στο 2ο σετ η Ζενγκ προηγήθηκε με 2-0, έφθασε στο 4-2, στο κρίσιμο 8o game η Λευκορωσίδα έχασε διπλό break point, με τη Zενγκ να κάνει στο 5-3 και στη συνέχεια με το 3ο δικό της break στο παιχνίδι, να κατακτά και το 20 σετ με 6-3.

Στον άλλο ημιτελικό της Πέμπτης (15/5) η Τζάσμιν Παολίνι θα παίξει με την Πέιτον Στερνς.
