Zalgiris - Partizan 74-88: Parade in Kaunas with Papapetrou's season high (video)
Partizan won the Zalgirio Arena and took a big (huge) step towards qualifying for the playoffs. Second Serbian victory over the Lithuanian team, which puts them in a strong position in the event of a tie at the end of the regular season.
Partizan is upping the ante at the right time with its fourth win in five games. Zeljko Obradovic's team passed the home of Zalgiris in an imposing manner (88-74) and took a decisive step towards qualifying for the eight. The black and whites took the reins of the rhythm early on and, with the exception of a short period in the third quarter, were not really threatened.
Even when Zalgiris fought to turn the game around, Ioannis Papapetrou was there to... set things right (p.s.: 17 points is a season high) and ensure the Serbian victory at Zalgirio Arena .
In the midst of it all, Partizan went 2/2 against Zalgiris this year, which already puts them on top (both have 12 wins and 11 losses) in the standings.
The race
Partizan started early with very good percentages in two-pointers and three-pointers, which allowed them to quickly gain a double-digit lead (9-20 at 8') and set the rules of the match. Zalgiris was struggling to get the difference, touching the ball on the racket, but the absence of reliable options at "1" (beyond Lukas Lekavicius) did not leave much hope for them. The visitors continued to score in bursts and take a lot from many, closing the first part at +17 (30-47), having 9/18 two-pointers, 8/14 three-pointers and 5/7 shots.
With the start of the second half, Zalgiris changed a lot in terms of decisions and efficiency. With the tall guys doing the work near the basket and the crowd cranking up the decibels, the home team improved noticeably, to the point where they felt poised for the upset. The -7 (54-61) of the third period gave them reasonable hopes, despite Partizan's 10/17 three-pointers.
Very quickly, however, Zeljko Obradovic's players put an end to all that. With the defense making the difference again and Ioannis Papapetrou "shooting" both from near and far, Partizan shot the difference to +20 (61-81 at 37') to write the epilogue of the match.

Η Παρτίζαν άλωσε τη Zalgirio Arena και έκανε μεγάλο (τεράστιο) βήμα για την πρόκριση στα playoffs. Δεύτερη σερβική νίκη επί της λιθουανικής ομάδας, που τη θέτει σε θέση ισχύος στο ενδεχόμενο της ισοβαθμίας στο τέλος της regular season.
Η Παρτίζαν ανεβάζει την ταχύτητα την κατάλληλη στιγμή, με την τέταρτη νίκη σε πέντε αγώνες. Η ομάδα του Ζέλικο Ομπράντοβιτς πέρασε από την έδρα της Ζάλγκιρις με επιβλητικό τρόπο (88-74) και έκανε αποφασιστικό βήμα για την πρόκριση στην οκτάδα. Οι ασπρόμαυροι πήραν από νωρίς τα ηνία του ρυθμού και με εξαίρεση ένα μικρό διάστημα στο τρίτο δεκάλεπτο δεν απειλήθηκαν επί της ουσίας.
Ακόμη κι όταν η Ζάλγκιρις πάλεψε για να γυρίσει το παιχνίδι, ο Ιωάννης Παπαπέτρου ήταν εκεί για να... βάλει τα πράγματα στη θέση τους (σ.σ.: οι 17 πόντοι είναι season high) και να διασφαλίσει τη σερβική νίκη στη Zalgirio Arena.
Μέσα σε όλα, η Παρτίζαν έκανε το 2/2 απέναντι στη Ζάλγκιρις φέτος, γεγονός που τη φέρνει ήδη από πάνω (αμφότερες έχουν 12 νίκες και 11 ήττες) στην κατάταξη.
Ο αγώνας
Η Παρτίζαν ξεκίνησε από νωρίς με πολύ καλά ποσοστά σε δίποντα και τρίποντα, γεγονός που της επέτρεψε να αποκτήσει γρήγορα διψήφιο προβάδισμα (9-20 στο 8') και να θέσει τους κανόνες της αναμέτρησης. Η Ζάλγκιρις πάλευε να μαζέψει τη διαφορά, ακουμπώντας την μπάλα στη ρακέτα, αλλά η απουσία αξιόπιστων επιλογών στο "1" (πέραν του Λούκας Λεκαβίτσιους) δεν της άφηνε πολλές ελπίδες. Οι φιλοξενούμενοι συνέχισαν να σκοράρουν κατά ριπάς και να παίρνουν πολλά από πολλούς, κλείνοντας το πρώτο μέρος στο +17 (30-47), έχοντας 9/18 δίποντα, 8/14 τρίποντα και 5/7 βολές.
Με την έναρξη του δεύτερου μέρους, η Ζάλγκιρις άλλαξε αρκετά σε επίπεδο αποφάσεων και αποτελεσματικότητας. Με τους ψηλούς να κάνουν τη δουλειά κοντά στο καλάθι και τον κόσμο να ανεβάζει κατακόρυφα τα ντεσιμπέλ, οι γηπεδούχοι βελτιώθηκαν αισθητά, σε τέτοιο βαθμό που ένιωσαν έτοιμοι για την ανατροπή. Το -7 (54-61) της τρίτης περιόδου τούς έδινε άλλωστε βάσιμες ελπίδες, παρά τα 10/17 τρίποντα της Παρτίζαν.
Πολύ γρήγορα όμως, οι παίκτες του Ζέλικο Ομπράντοβιτς έβαλαν τέλος σε όλα αυτά. Με την άμυνα να κάνει ξανά τη διαφορά και τον Ιωάννη Παπαπέτρου να "πυροβολεί" τόσο από κοντά όσο κι από μακριά, η Παρτίζαν εκτόξευσε τη διαφορά στο +20 (61-81 στο 37') για να γράψει τον επίλογο της αναμέτρησης.
