Panathinaikos AKTOR fought like a beast, but was hurt by absences and misses in Tel Aviv, losing 75-71 to Maccabi in the 24th round of the EuroLeague.

Panathinaikos AKTOR was defeated 75-71 by Maccabi in Tel Aviv in the 24th round of the EuroLeague. The greens seemed to withstand all the adverse conditions, namely the significant absences of Nan, Mitoglou and Osman, but also the hostile atmosphere, with the provocation to Ergin Ataman and the delegation upon its arrival in Yad Eliyahu. Ultimately, however, they were betrayed by their failure to make three-pointers, missing five (!) shots from 1’21” to 10” before the final.

The statistics that stood out

Maccabi had 14/18 two-pointers (77.8%) in the first half, while Panathinaikos had 9/20 (45%).

The match

After the DNP in the match against Baskonia, Ataman put Shorts in the starting five for the match against Maccabi, along with Grant, Rogavopoulos (in Osman’s absence), Juancho and Holmes.

He entered well, having an assist, steal, basket, defense, helping the Greens to 0-7 in 1’30”, along with the other American guard who had 5 quick points. Maccabi reduced the deficit to 6-7 and shortly afterwards took the lead to 15-14 (6’30”). Toliopoulos entered the match and with 5 points of his own, it was 20-19, before giving an assist to Farid for 20-21 (10′).

The home team went on a 9-1 run to take a 7-point lead (29-22) at 13’30”. The clover responded immediately and took the lead again (34-35) at 17′, after baskets by Holmes, Yurtseven and Shorts. Lundberg, Dowtin and Sorkin made it 40-35 at 69″ before halftime, while ultimately the two teams went to the locker room with the score at 42-39 in favor of the home team.

After the break, the two teams were going point by point (51-50 at 25’30”). With two excellent partnerships by Shorts and Holmes, the score became 53-57 at 27’30”, but Blatt scored twice from behind 6.75m for 59-57. Samodurov responded with the same coin for 59-60 at 30′.

With Blatt's fifth three-pointer and a goal-foul, Santos made it 65-60 at 31'40". With 2/2 shots by Holmes and a basket by Shorts, the clover reduced the lead to a breath of fresh air (65-64) just before 35'. Maccabi pulled away with 5 points (71-66). Rogavopoulos reduced it to 71-68.

Ο Παναθηναϊκός AKTOR λύγισε με 75-71 από τη Μακάμπι στο Τελ Αβίβ στην 24η αγωνιστική της EuroLeague. Οι πράσινοι έδειχναν να αντέχουν σε όλες τις αντίξοες συνθήκες, δηλαδή στις σημαντικές απουσίες των Ναν, Μήτογλου και Όσμαν, αλλά και στην εχθρική ατμόσφαιρα, με τον προπηλακισμό στον Εργκίν Αταμάν και την αποστολή κατά την άφιξή της στο Γιαντ Ελιάου. Τελικά όμως, προδόθηκαν από την αστοχία τους στο τρίποντο, χάνοντας πέντε (!) σουτ από τα 1’21” μέχρι και τα 10″ πριν το φινάλε.

Ο αγώνας

Μετά το DNP στο ματς με την Μπασκόνια, ο Αταμάν έβαλε τον Σορτς στην αρχική πεντάδα του αγώνα με τη Μακάμπι, μαζί με τους Γκραντ, Ρογκαβόπουλο (εν απουσία του Όσμαν), Χουάντσο και Χολμς.

Εκείνος μπήκε καλά, έχοντας κατά σειρά ασίστ, κλέψιμο, καλάθι, άμυνα, βοηθώντας στο 0-7 των πρασίνων στο 1’30”, μαζί με τον έτερο Αμερικανό γκαντ που είχε 5 γρήγορους πόντους. Η Μακάμπι μείωσε σε 6-7 και λίγο αργότερα προσπέρασε με 15-14 (6’30”). Ο Τολιόπουλος μπήκε στο ματς και με 5 δικούς του πόντους γράφτηκε το 20-19, πριν δώσει ασίστ στον Φαρίντ για το 20-21 (10′).

Οι γηπεδούχοι έτρεξαν επιμέρους 9-1 για να προηγηθούν με 7 πόντους (29-22) στο 13’30”. Το τριφύλλι απάντησε άμεσα και προσπέρασε εκ νέου (34-35) στο 17′, μετά από καλάθια των Χολμς, Γιούρτσεβεν και Σορτς. Λούντμπεργκ, Ντάουτιν και Σόρκιν διαμόρφωσαν το 40-35 στα 69″ πριν το ημίχρονο, ενώ τελικά οι δύο ομάδες πήγαν στα αποδυτήρια με το σκορ στο 42-39 υπέρ των γηπεδούχων.

Μετά την ανάπαυλα οι δύο ομάδες πήγαιναν πόντο-πόντο (51-50 στο 25’30”). Με δύο εξαιρετικές συνεργασίες Σορτς και Χολμς το σκορ έγινε 53-57 στο 27’30”, όμως ο Μπλατ σκόραρε δύο φορές πίσω από τα 6.75μ για το 59-57. Ο Σαμοντούροβ απάντησε με το ίδιο νόμισμα για 59-60 στο 30′.

Με το πέμπτο τρίποντο του Μπλατ κι ένα γκολ-φάουλ το Σάντος διαμορφώθηκε το 65-60 στο 31’40”. Με 2/2 βολές του Χολμς κι ένα καλάθι του Σορτς, το τριφύλλι μείωσε σε απόσταση αναπνοής (65-64) λίγο πριν το 35′. Η Μακάμπι ξεμάκρυνε με 5 πόντους (71-66). Ο Ρογκαβόπουλος μείωσε σε 71-68.
