Panionios came back from -19, took the lead, but were defeated by a buzzer-beater from Battle with 88-87 from Trento for the 14th round of the EuroCup.

Panionios was excellent in the second half of the match against Trento but were defeated by a buzzer-beater from Battle and a score of 88-87 for the 14th round of the EuroCup.

Markovic's players showed two faces, since in the first half they were losing the duels to the home team, they were even at -19 and the halftime score was 51-37.

In the second half, however, the blue-reds appeared determined to give it their all and that is what they did. In just 7 minutes of play, they had taken the lead (57-60), with the match becoming a thriller.

The home team was fortunate to see Battle hit the final buzzer-beater from 4 meters and under pressure, giving his team the victory.

Thomason, who was scoreless in the first half, scored all 17 of his points (1/1 two-pointers, 3/6 three-pointers, 6/6 field goals) in the second half, while also having 8 assists, 4 rebounds and 27 points in the evaluation.

Tsalbouris was the top scorer for the blue-reds with 19 (5/9 three-pointers, 3/7 three-pointers) and 6 rebounds, with Lewis (14 points, 4/6 three-pointers), Kruzer (11 points) and Lemon (10 points) also in double figures.

For the home team, Jones was the top scorer, reaching a double-double with 11 points and 8 assists, but what really hurt Panionios, especially in the first half, were the rebounds.

The home team finished with 42 rebounds (26 defensive - 16 offensive), while the visitors had 29 (25 defensive - 4 offensive) with second-chance points being 15-4 for the Italian team.

The match

The home team started the match better, with Panionios facing problems both offensively and defensively, with the score at the middle of the first period being 14-7. The blue-red team managed to defend themselves afterwards, but were hurt by the 6 offensive rebounds of the Italian team, with the first quarter ending with 25-15.

Trento's absolute superiority in rebounds continued in the second period, with Panionios losing even more ground, although offensively it appeared to be improved compared to the start of the game. Thus, with individual scores of 26-22, the two teams went to the locker room with 14 points separating them (51-37).

Markovic's players came out completely different in the second half. The duels slowly turned blue-red. The visitors' defense tightened impressively and Panionios came back from -14 and even overtook (57-60) with individual 6-23 in just seven minutes.

The last period began with the Greek team at +6 (63-69) and the match on a razor's edge. The hosts reacted and went ahead (82-81) with Thomason putting Panionios ahead again (82-83) and both teams trying to find big shots and defenses.

With two and two accurate shots for each team and the score at 86-85, Kruzer hit a difficult attempt for Panionios 86-87 with 20 seconds remaining.

After the timeout, Cancellieri chose to return the ball from the end line, with his players using up the remaining time and Battle with a buzzer-beater from 4 meters giving his team the victory.

Ο Πανιώνιος γύρισε από το -19, προηγήθηκε, όμως ηττήθηκε με buzzer-beater του Μπατλ με 88-87 από την Τρέντο για τη 14η αγωνιστική του EuroCup.

Ο Πανιώνιος ήταν εξαιρετικός στο δεύτερο μέρος της αναμέτρησης με την Τρέντο όμως ηττήθηκε με buzzer-beater του Μπατλ και σκορ 88-87 για τη 14η αγωνιστική του EuroCup.

Οι παίκτες του Μάρκοβιτς εμφάνισαν δύο πρόσωπα, αφού στο πρώτο μέρος έχαναν κατά κράτος τις μονομαχίες από τους γηπεδούχους, βρέθηκαν μέχρι και στο -19 και το σκορ της ανάπαυλας ήταν 51-37.

Στο δεύτερο μέρος όμως οι κυανέρυθροι εμφανίστηκαν αποφασισμένοι να τα δώσουν όλα και αυτό έκαναν. Μόλις σε 7 αγωνιστικά λεπτά είχαν περάσει μπροστά (57-60), με το ματς να γίνεται θρίλερ.

Ο Τσαλμπούρης ήταν πρώτος σκόρερ των κυανέρυθρων με 19 (5/9 τρίποντα, 3/7 τρίποντα) και 6 ριμπάουντ, με τον Λιούις (14 πόντοι, 4/6 τρίποντα), τον Κρούζερ (11 πόντοι) και τον Λέμον (10 πόντοι) να είναι επίσης διψήφιοι.

Για τους γηπεδούχους κορυφαίος ήταν ο Τζόουνς που άγγιξε το νταμπλ νταμπλ με 11 πόντους και 8 ασίστ, όμως αυτό που πραγματικά πλήγωσε, κυρίως στο πρώτο μέρος τον Πανιώνιο ήταν τα ριμπάουντ.

Οι γηπεδούχοι τελείωσαν με 42 ριμπάουντ (26 αμυντικά – 16 επιθετικά), ενώ οι φιλοξενούμενοι με 29 (25 αμυντικά – 4 επιθετικά) με τους πόντους από δεύτερη ευκαιρία να είναι 15-4 για την ιταλική ομάδα. 

Ο αγώνας

Οι γηπεδούχοι ξεκίνησαν καλύτερα στην αναμέτρηση, με τον Πανιώνιο να αντιμετωπίζει προβλήματα τόσο επιθετικά, όσο και αμυντικά με το σκορ στα μέσα της πρώτης περιόδου να είναι 14-7. Οι κυανέρυθροι κατάφεραν να βγάλουν άμυνες στη συνέχεια, όμως πληγώθηκαν από τα 6 επιθετικά ριμπάουντ της ιταλικής ομάδας με το πρώτο δεκάλεπτο να ολοκληρώνεται με 25-15.

Η απόλυτη υπεροχή της Τρέντο στα ριμπάουντ συνεχίστηκε και στη δεύτερη περίοδο, με τον Πανιώνιο να χάνει κι άλλο έδαφος παρ’ όλο που επιθετικά εμφανίστηκε βελτιωμένος σε σχέση με την έναρξη του παιχνιδιού. Έτσι με επιμέρους σκορ 26-22 οι δύο ομάδες πήγαν στα αποδυτήρια με 14 πόντους να τους χωρίζουν (51-37).

Οι παίκτες του Μάρκοβιτς βγήκαν εντελώς διαφορετικοί στο δεύτερο μέρος. Οι μονομαχίες σιγά σιγά βάφτηκαν κυανέρυθρες. Η άμυνα των φιλοξενούμενων έσφιξε εντυπωσιακά και ο Πανιώνιος επέστρεψε από το -14 και μάλιστα προσπέρασε (57-60) με επιμέρους 6-23 σε μόλις επτά λεπτά.

Η τελευταία περίοδος ξεκίνησε με την ελληνική ομάδα στο +6 (63-69) και την αναμέτρηση στην κόψη του ξυραφιού. Οι γηπεδούχοι αντέδρασαν και πέρασαν μπροστά (82-81) με τον Τόμασον να βάζει ξανά μπροστά τον Πανιώνιο (82-83) και τις δύο ομάδες να προσπαθούν να βρουν μεγάλα σουτ και άμυνες.

Με δύο και δύο εύστοχες βολές για κάθε ομάδα και το σκορ στο 86-85 ο Κρούζερ ευστόχησε σε δύσκολη προσπάθεια για το 86-87 του Πανιωνίου με 20 δευτερόλεπτα να απομένουν.

Ο Καντσελιέρι μετά το τάιμ άουτ επέλεξε να επαναφέρει την μπάλα από την τελική γραμμή, με τους παίκτες του να καταναλώνουν τον υπολειπόμενο χρόνο και τον Μπατλ με buzzer-beater από τα 4 μέτρα να δίνει τη νίκη στην ομάδα του.
