Second major title for the amazing Rybakina! (vids)

The unstoppable Elena Rybakina defeated Aryna Sabalenka in three sets and won the Australian Open for the first time in her career!

The 26-year-old Kazakh (No. 5) defeated the top tennis player in the world 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in 2 hours and 19 minutes and got revenge for her defeat in the 2023 final!

This is her second major title after Wimbledon in 2022 and this time she will also put points in her pocket, because then no points were awarded due to the ban on the participation of Russians and Belarusians.

Sabalenka, on the other hand, lost her second consecutive final in Melbourne, where she was chasing her third title. And this is also an extremely painful defeat, since she found herself leading 0-3 in the deciding set, but she was unable to maintain the lead, losing five games in a row and the trophy slipped through her hands!

In any case, she has been a more consistent player in the Grand Slams (and not only) in recent years and the only thing certain is that she will find more such opportunities ahead of her...

Rybakina entered the court strongly and achieved a break in just the first game of the match, also making some great returns after 30-0 in favor of Sabalenka. The 27-year-old Belarusian, however, slowly began to win points on her opponent's serve and, in fact, threatened with a double break point at 4-3.

Rybakina, however, emerged unscathed thanks to her serve and finally cleared the set, when she took the balls in her hands at 5-4.

Sabalenka had three more break points in the second game of the second set, but again Rybakina relied on her serve and held for 1-1. However, the same did not happen when she served under pressure at 4-5, as the No. 1 tennis player in the world “broke” her with a zero and sent the match to a third set.

Sabalenka maintained her very high level in the third set and scored the break in the second game (0-2), laying a solid foundation for victory. Rybakina didn't give up and found herself with a break point in the next game, but the Belarusian reacted in an exemplary manner for 0-3.

The break, however, came shortly after for the Kazakh, who played perfectly on Sabalenka's serve and reduced it to 2-3. She managed to save a break point from the Belarusian and equalize at 3-3, while extending her streak even further with another break for 4-3!

The two-time winner of the tournament tried to respond immediately, but Rybakina... closed the window and went ahead 5-3, causing a lot of nerves for her opponent. Nevertheless, Sabalenka stayed in the set and had one last chance to take the break back.

Rybakina, however, did not give many rights and with two great serves after 30-30 she won the great title!

With her performance in Melbourne, she secured her return to No. 3 and the truth is that with the tennis she has been playing lately (she has 19 wins in 20 matches) she should only be in the Top 3. It is no coincidence, after all, that she has won her last ten matches against players in the top ten!

Η ασταμάτητη Έλενα Ριμπάκινα λύγισε στα τρία σετ την Αρίνα Σαμπαλένκα και κατέκτησε για πρώτη φορά στην καριέρα της το Australian Open!

Η 26χρονη Καζάκα (Νο.5) επικράτησε της κορυφαίας τενίστριας στον κόσμο με 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 σε 2 ώρες και 19 λεπτά και πήρε ρεβάνς για την ήττα της στον τελικό του 2023!

Αυτός είναι ο δεύτερος major τίτλος της μετά το Wimbledon το 2022 και αυτά τη φορά θα βάλει και βαθμούς στην τσέπη, γιατί τότε δεν δόθηκαν βαθμοί λόγω της απαγόρευσης της συμμετοχής των Ρώσων και Λευκορώσων.

Η Σαμπαλένκα, από την άλλη, έχασε τον δεύτερο σερί τελικό της στη Μελβούρνη, όπου κυνηγούσε τον τρίτο τίτλο της. Και είναι και αυτή μια άκρως οδυνηρή ήττα, αφού βρέθηκε να προηγείται με 0-3 στο καθοριστικό σετ, όμως δεν μπόρεσε να διατηρήσει το προβάδισμα, έχασε πέντε γκέιμ στη σειρά και της έφυγε το τρόπαιο μέσα από τα χέρια!

Όπως και να έχει είναι πιο σταθερή παίκτρια στα Grand Slams (και όχι μόνο) τα τελευταία χρόνια και το μόνο βέβαιο είναι ότι θα βρει μπροστά της και άλλες τέτοιες ευκαιρίες...

H Ριμπάκινα μπήκε δυνατά στο γήπεδο και πέτυχε μπρέικ μόλις στο πρώτο γκέιμ του αγώνα, βγάζοντας και μερικές σπουδαίες επιστροφές μετά το 30-0 υπέρ της Σαμπαλένκα. Η 27χρονη Λευκορωσίδα, πάντως, άρχισε σιγά-σιγά να κερδίζει πόντους στο σερβίς της αντιπάλου της και, μάλιστα, απείλησε με διπλό μπρέικ πόιντ στο 4-3. 

Η Ριμπάκινα, όμως, βγήκε αλώβητη χάρη στο σερβίς της και τελικά καθάρισε το σετ, όταν πήρε τις μπάλες στα χέρια της στο 5-4.

Η Σαμπαλένκα είχε τρεις ακόμα ευκαιρίες για μπρέικ στο δεύτερο γκέιμ του δεύτερου σετ, αλλά και πάλι η Ριμπάκινα βασίστηκε στο σερβίς της και κράτησε για το 1-1. Δεν έγινε, όμως, το ίδιο όταν σέρβιρε υπό πίεση στο 4-5, καθώς η Νο.1 τενίστρια στον κόσμο την «έσπασε» με μηδέν και έστειλε το ματς σε τρίτο σετ.

Η Σαμπαλένκα διατήρησε το πολύ υψηλό της επίπεδο και στο τρίτο σετ και σημείωσε το μπρέικ στο δεύτερο γκέιμ (0-2), βάζοντας γερές βάσεις για τη νίκη. Η Ριμπάκινα δεν το έβαλε κάτω και βρέθηκε με μπρέικ ποιντ στο επόμενο γκέιμ, όμως η Λευκορωσίδα αντέδρασε υποδειγματικά για το 0-3.

Το μπρέικ, ωστόσο, ήρθε λίγο μετά για την Καζάκα, που έπαιξε τέλεια στο σερβίς της Σαμπαλένκα και μείωσε σε 2-3. Κατάφερε να σώσει μπρέικ πόιντ της Λευκορωσίδας και να ισοφαρίσει σε 3-3, ενώ διεύρυνε ακόμα περισσότερο το σερί της με ένα ακόμα μπρέικ για το 4-3!

Η δύο φορές νικήτρια της διοργάνωσης προσπάθησε να απαντήσει άμεσα, αλλά η Ριμπάκινα... έκλεισε το παράθυρο και πέρασε μπροστά με 5-3, προκαλώντας πολλά νεύρα στην αντίπαλό της. Παρόλα αυτά, η Σαμπαλένκα έμεινε στο σετ και είχε μία τελευταία ευκαιρία για να πάρει το μπρέικ πίσω.

Η Ριμπάκινα, όμως, δεν έδωσε πολλά δικαιώματα και με δύο μεγάλα σερβίς μετά το 30-30 κατέκτησε τον σπουδαίο τίτλο!

Mε την πορεία της στη Μελβούρνη, εξασφάλισε την επιστροφή της στο Νο.3 και η αλήθεια είναι ότι με το τένις που παίζει τον τελευταίο καιρό (έχει 19 νίκες σε 20 αγώνες) μόνο στο Top 3 πρέπει να βρίσκεται. Δεν είναι τυχαίο, άλλωστε, ότι έχει κερδίσει και τα δέκα τελευταία ματς της απέναντι σε παίκτριες της πρώτης δεκάδας!
