Surprising in the first and fourth quarters, Olympiacos defeated Barcelona in SEF (87-75) and overtook them in the EuroLeague standings. Vesely, with a shot on the exhale, kept the difference for the Catalans who had won by 13 at Palau Blaugrana.

A battle reminiscent of Game 5 of the playoffs series took place on Thursday night (29/1) at the Peace and Friendship Stadium.

Olympiacos triumphed in this battle, defeating Barcelona by 87-75 for the 25th matchday of the EuroLeague regular season.

The Piraeus team rose to 16-8 (9-3 home and 7-5 away), overtook the Catalans as they “owe” a game, the one against Fenerbahce, took an important step towards the top four and continue having put Corey Joseph in the equation.

Great game from Sasha Vezenkov, great game from Tyreek Jones, Tyler Dorsey missed but scored in double figures, Ward and Milutinov helped their team a lot, which almost took the lead with a three-pointer by Tyler Dorsey 0.7″ before the final. In the end, Veseli kept it for his team with a two-pointer in the end.

Barcelona fell to 16-9 (9-3 home and 7-6 away), who made a surprising effort after the tragic first quarter in which Olympiacos suffocated them with their energy and defense, but in the fourth they ran out of courage.

MVP

Sasha Vezenkov was AGAIN the top scorer with 20 points on 14 shots, Tyler Dorsey hit a three-pointer that almost became the defining moment for his team's entire season, but the one who really made the difference was Tyreek Jones. 16 points, 5/7 two-pointers, 6/8 shooting, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, 3 blocks, all in 20:54, the American's performance was truly deafening.

The stats that stood out

Olympiacos got five offensive rebounds in the first quarter (8-0 points from second chances), Barcelona closed the period with three assists for six turnovers. At halftime, the points in the surprise attack were 18-4, at the end of the night the home team won with 7/27 three-pointers, with dominance in the surprise attack (22-9), with dominance also in the points from second chances (17-7).

The match

With Walkup, Dorsey, Ward, Vezenkov, Milutinov, Olympiacos opened the match, which got seven points from Vezenkov for 11-2 in the fourth minute. The Piraeus team had complete control of the match, Dorsey scored in a flurry for 20-7 in the 8th minute, the defense was at an EXTRAORDINARY level and Joseph entered the match 2:17 before the end of the first period. He committed two quick fouls, but the 27-13 quarter hid them.

Olympiacos kept the lead in double digits early in the second, Bartzokas complained about phases on both sides of the floor, but his team did not feel a real threat. Two airballs by Fournier in three possessions, two fouls by Walkup, three fouls by Peters could have been problematic, but the 46-37 halftime score was pleasant. Not ideal, but certainly very good, even if in the quarter the Piraeus team showed haste and irritation.

A three-pointer by Pender reduced the difference to four early in the third quarter (46-42 at 22′), Vesely tied it at 46-46 at 23′, but there Vezenkov with a field goal foul, Dorsey with a three-pointer from the corner and Vezenkov with shots, sent the difference to eight. Barcelona responded with 0-7, Clyburn got on fire for 56-58 at 28′, made another three-pointer for 58-61 and at the end of the period the Catalans had brought the match to their liking.

With Clyburn unstoppable, Olympiacos was looking for both defense and offense. Vezenkov made a big three-pointer for 68-66 at 33′, fatigue was huge on both teams, Joseph wasted three chances, had 1/2 shots for 72-68 at 37′ and left to return for the finale by Walkup. The difference reached 12 (84-72), Clyburn made 1/2 shots at 13.3″, Dorsey made the big shot and Veselí the biggest.

Εκπληκτικός στο πρώτο και στο τέταρτο δεκάλεπτο, ο Ολυμπιακός νίκησε την Μπαρτσελόνα στο ΣΕΦ (87-75) και την προσπέρασε στην κατάταξη της EuroLeague. Ο Βέσελι με σουτ στην εκπνοή κράτησε τη διαφορά για τους Καταλανούς που είχαν νικήσει με 13 στο Παλάου Μπλαουγκράνα.

Μάχη που θύμιζε Game 5 σεράς playoffs έγινε το βράδυ της Πέμπτης (29/1) στο Στάδιο Ειρήνης και Φιλίας.

Σε αυτή τη μάχη θριάμβευσε ο Ολυμπιακός, ο οποίος νίκησε με 87-75 την Μπαρτσελόνα για την 25η αγωνιστική της κανονικής περιόδου της EuroLeague.

Οι Πειραιώτες ανέβηκαν στο 16-8 (9-3 εντός και 7-5 εκτός έδρας), προσπέρασαν τους Καταλανούς καθώς “χρωστούν” έναν αγώνα, αυτόν με την Φενέρμπαχτσε, έκαναν σημαντικό βήμα για την τετράδα και συνεχίζουν έχοντας βάλει στην εξίσωση τον Κόρι Τζόσεφ.

Μεγάλο ματς από τον Σάσα Βεζένκοβ, μεγάλο ματς από τον Ταϊρίκ Τζόουνς, άστοχος αλλά διψήφιος ο Τάιλερ Ντόρσεϊ, Γουορντ και Μιλουτίνοβ βοήθησαν πολύ την ομάδα τους, που λίγο έλειψε να πάρει και τη διαφορά με τριποντάρα του Τάιλερ Ντόρσεϊ 0.7″ πριν από το φινάλε. Τελικά ο Βέσελι την κράτησε για την ομάδα του με δίποντο στην εκπνοή.

Στο 16-9 έπεσε η Μπαρτσελόνα (9-3 εντός και 7-6 εκτός έδρας), που έκανε εκπληκτική προσπάθεια μετά από το τραγικό πρώτο δεκάλεπτο στο οποίο ο Ολυμπιακός την έπνιξε με την ενέργεια και με την άμυνά του, αλλά στην τέταρτη έμεινε από κουράγιο. 

Ο MVP

Ο Σάσα Βεζένκοβ ήταν ΞΑΝΑ πρώτος σκόρερ με 20 πόντους από 14 σουτ, ο Τάιλερ Ντόρσεϊ έβαλε ένα τρίποντο που λίγο έλειψε να χαρακτηριστεί καθοριστικό για όλη τη σεζόν της ομάδας του, όμως αυτός που έκανε πραγματικά τη διαφορά ήταν ο Ταϊρίκ Τζόουνς. 16 πόντοι, 5/7 δίποντα, 6/8 βολές, 8 ριμπάουντ, 2 ασίστ, 3 κλεψίματα, 3 μπλοκ, όλα αυτά σε 20:54, η εμφάνιση του Αμερικανού ήταν πραγματικά εκκωφαντική.

Τα στατιστικά που ξεχώρισαν

Πέντε επιθετικά ριμπάουντ πήρε ο Ολυμπιακός στο πρώτο δεκάλεπτο (8-0 οι πόντοι από δεύτερες ευκαιρίες), με τρεις ασίστ για έξι λάθη έκλεισε την περίοδο η Μπαρτσελόνα. Στο ημίχρονο οι πόντοι στον αιφνιδιασμό ήταν 18-4, στο τέλος της βραδιάς οι γηπεδούχοι νίκησαν με 7/27 τρίποντα, με κυριαρχία στον αιφνιδιασμό (22-9), με κυριαρχία και στους πόντους από δεύτερες ευκαιρίες (17-7).

Ο αγώνας

Με Γουόκαπ, Ντόρσεϊ, Γουορντ, Βεζένκοβ, Μιλουτίνοβ άνοιξε το ματς ο Ολυμπιακός, που πήρε επτά πόντους από τον Βεζένκοβ για το 11-2 στο τέταρτο λεπτό. Οι Πειραιώτες είχαν τον απόλυτο έλεγχο του ματς, ο Ντόρσεϊ σκόραρε κατά ριπάς για το 20-7 στο 8′, η άμυνα ήταν σε ΕΞΩΦΡΕΝΙΚΟ επίπεδο κι ο Τζόσεφ μπήκε στο ματς 2:17 πριν από το τέλος της πρώτης περιόδου. Έκανε δύο γρήγορα φάουλ, όμως το 27-13 του δεκαλέπτου τα έκρυψε.

Ο Ολυμπιακός κράτησε τη διαφορά σε διψήφιο νούμερο στις αρχές της δεύτερης, ο Μπαρτζώκας είχε παράπονα για φάσεις και στις δύο πλευρές του παρκέ, όμως η ομάδα του δεν ένιωσε πραγματική απειλή. Δύο έρμπολ του Φουρνιέ σε τρεις κατοχές, δύο φάουλ του Γουόκαπ, τρία φάουλ του Πίτερς μπορούσαν να προβληματίσουν, όμως το 46-37 του ημιχρόνου ήταν ευχάριστο. Όχι ιδανικό, σίγουρα όμως πολύ καλό, έστω κι αν στο δεκάλεπτο οι Πειραιώτες έδειξαν βιασύνη και εκνευρισμό.

Ένα τρίποντο του Πάντερ μείωσε τη διαφορά στους τέσσερις νωρίς στο τρίτο δεκάλεπτο (46-42 στο 22′), ο Βέσελι ισοφάρισε το 46-46 στο 23′, όμως εκεί ο Βεζένκοβ με γκολ-φάουλ, ο Ντόρσεϊ με τρίποντο από την γωνία και ο Βεζένκοβ και βολές, έστειλαν τη διαφορά στους οκτώ. Η Μπαρτσελόνα απάντησε με 0-7, ο Κλάιμπερν πήρε φωτιά για το 56-58 στο 28′, έβαλε κι άλλο τρίποντο για το 58-61 και στο φινάλε της περιόδου οι Καταλανοί είχαν φέρει το ματς στα μέτρα τους.

Με τον Κλάιμπερν ασταμάτητο, ο Ολυμπιακός έψαχνε και άμυνα, έψαχνε και επίθεση. Ο Βεζένκοβ έβαλε μεγάλο τρίποντο για το 68-66 στο 33′, η κούραση ήταν τεράστια και στις δύο ομάδες, ο Τζόσεφ σπατάλησε τρεις ευκαιρίες, είχε 1/2 βολές για το 72-68 στο 37′ και αποχώρησε για να γυρίσει για το φινάλε ο Γουόκαπ. Η διαφορά έφτασε στους 12 (84-72), ο Κλάιμπερν έβαλε 1/2 βολές στα 13.3″, ο Ντόρσεϊ έβαλε το μεγάλο σουτ και ο Βέσελι το μεγαλύτερο.
