Panathinaikos did its duty in the Metz indoor stadium and secured qualification for the quarterfinals of the CEV Challenge Cup, taking the two sets it needed without… breaking a sweat and prevailing with the final 3-0 set of Braga.

The "greens", already having a 3-0 advantage from the first match in Portugal, entered concentrated and quickly sealed their ticket to the eight, while maintaining their undefeated record in Greece and Europe this season.

Panathinaikos won the first set with 25-18 and the second with 25-23, mathematically securing qualification. The match continued, with Alessandro Chiapini's players competing without anxiety and winning the third set with 25-18.

Bennett was the top scorer of the match with 19 points.

Panathinaikos will now face Red Star in the quarterfinals, as the Serbian team took the two sets it needed and “sealed” its qualification after its 3-1 set victory in Denmark.

The match

Panathinaikos entered the Mets indoor game determined and, although Braga took the lead in the early minutes, the “greens” reacted immediately. The score quickly balanced at 4-4, before Panathinaikos went ahead and gradually increased the difference. With good pressure from the serve and efficiency in the block, the “clover” escaped with 10-6 and then with 15-9, laying a solid foundation for winning the set. The difference was maintained until the end, with Panathinaikos reaching 25-19 and 1-0.

The second set had more intensity and changes in the score. The two teams went together until the middle of the set, with Panathinaikos leading 14-11 and Braga coming back to make it 15-15. A point-by-point battle followed (18-18, 19-19), before the guests took the lead with 19-21. There, however, the "greens" reacted, tied at 22-22 and at the crucial points showed composure, taking the set with 25-23 and with it the qualification.

In the third set, with the qualification already secured, Panathinaikos played more freely and took control early on. The score reached 9-6 and then 12-8, with the gap widening even further (16-10, 18-12). Braga tried to reduce, reaching 20-18, but the "greens" responded immediately, escaped again and "locked" the victory with 25-18, completing the match with a clean 3-0 set.

Ο Παναθηναϊκός έκανε το καθήκον του στο κλειστό του Μετς και εξασφάλισε την πρόκριση στα προημιτελικά του CEV Challenge Cup, παίρνοντας τα δύο σετ που χρειαζόταν χωρίς να… ιδρώσει και επικρατώντας με το τελικό 3-0 σετ της Μπράγκα.

Οι «πράσινες», έχοντας ήδη το υπέρ τους 3-0 από τον πρώτο αγώνα στην Πορτογαλία, μπήκαν συγκεντρωμένες και σφράγισαν γρήγορα το εισιτήριο για την οκτάδα, διατηρώντας παράλληλα το αήττητό τους σε Ελλάδα και Ευρώπη τη φετινή σεζόν.

Ο Παναθηναϊκός κατέκτησε το πρώτο σετ με 25-18 και το δεύτερο με 25-23, εξασφαλίζοντας μαθηματικά την πρόκριση. Ο αγώνας συνεχίστηκε, με τις παίκτριες του Αλεσάντρο Κιαπίνι να αγωνίζονται χωρίς άγχος και να κατακτούν και το τρίτο σετ με 25-18.

Η Μπένετ ήταν η πρώτη σκόρερ του αγώνα με 19 πόντους.

Πλέον, ο Παναθηναϊκός θα αντιμετωπίσει τον Ερυθρό Αστέρα στα προημιτελικά, καθώς η σερβική ομάδα πήρε τα δύο σετ που χρειαζόταν και «σφράγισε» την πρόκριση μετά τη νίκη της με 3-1 σετ στη Δανία.

Το ματς

Ο Παναθηναϊκός μπήκε αποφασισμένος στο παιχνίδι του κλειστού του Μετς και, παρότι η Μπράγκα προηγήθηκε στα πρώτα λεπτά, οι «πράσινες» αντέδρασαν άμεσα. Το σκορ γρήγορα ισορρόπησε στο 4-4, πριν ο Παναθηναϊκός περάσει μπροστά και σταδιακά αυξήσει τη διαφορά. Με καλή πίεση από το σερβίς και αποτελεσματικότητα στο μπλοκ, το «τριφύλλι» ξέφυγε με 10-6 και στη συνέχεια με 15-9, βάζοντας γερές βάσεις για την κατάκτηση του σετ. Η διαφορά διατηρήθηκε μέχρι το τέλος, με τον Παναθηναϊκό να φτάνει στο 25-19 και το 1-0.

Το δεύτερο σετ είχε μεγαλύτερη ένταση και εναλλαγές στο σκορ. Οι δύο ομάδες πήγαν μαζί μέχρι τα μέσα του σετ, με τον Παναθηναϊκό να προηγείται 14-11 και τη Μπράγκα να επιστρέφει για το 15-15. Ακολούθησε μάχη πόντο-πόντο (18-18, 19-19), πριν οι φιλοξενούμενες περάσουν μπροστά με 19-21. Εκεί όμως οι «πράσινες» έβγαλαν αντίδραση, ισοφάρισαν σε 22-22 και στα κρίσιμα σημεία έδειξαν ψυχραιμία, παίρνοντας το σετ με 25-23 και μαζί την πρόκριση.

Στο τρίτο σετ, με την πρόκριση ήδη εξασφαλισμένη, ο Παναθηναϊκός έπαιξε πιο ελεύθερα και πήρε από νωρίς τον έλεγχο. Το σκορ έφτασε στο 9-6 και στη συνέχεια στο 12-8, με τη διαφορά να ανοίγει ακόμη περισσότερο (16-10, 18-12). Η Μπράγκα προσπάθησε να μειώσει, φτάνοντας στο 20-18, όμως οι «πράσινες» απάντησαν άμεσα, ξέφυγαν ξανά και «κλείδωσαν» τη νίκη με 25-18, ολοκληρώνοντας τον αγώνα με καθαρό 3-0 σετ.
