Segura officially joins Prometheus

Prometheus has officially announced the assumption of the team's technical leadership by Curro Segura.

The announcement in detail:

"KAE Prometheus Vikos Cola is pleased to announce the hiring of coach Curro Segura, who will guide our team for the rest of the season, after the departure of Giorgos Limniatis.

Curro Segura was born on April 7, 1972 in Granada, Spain. He has been involved in coaching since a young age, having become an assistant at Albolote at the age of 22, while in 1996-97 he had his first job as head coach at C.B Motral Costa Tropical. In the early 00’s, Segura began to establish himself in the high heavens of Spanish basketball and took over the benches of teams such as Tenerife (2001-02), Menorca (2002-06), Zaragoza (2007-09), Obradoiro (2009-10) and Granada (2010-11). In the 2012-13 season, he became an assistant coach at the Euroleague level for Malaga for a year, while immediately after that he took over the Kuwait national team (2014) and returned as head coach for a three-year stint in the Chinese, Uruguayan and Venezuelan leagues. In the 2017-18 season, he returned to Spain, as an assistant coach at Baskonia, while in the following two years (2018-20) he worked again as a head coach in his country, on behalf of Real Betis. In the 2021-22 season, he worked for the first time in his career in Greece on behalf of Ionians, while at the end of it he took over AEK. In 2022-23, he worked for the Spanish San Pablo Burgos, before returning to the GBL again, on behalf of Colossus Rhodes, with whom he took 6th place and led them to the European living rooms of the Basketball Champions League for the first time in their history. Last year, he worked in Egypt, on behalf of Zamalek, while a few days ago he was "anointed" as the federal coach of the Venezuelan national team.

Ο Προμηθέας ανακοίνωσε κι επίσημα την ανάληψη της τεχνικής ηγεσίας της ομάδας από τον Κούρο Σεγκούρα.

Αναλυτικά η ανακοίνωση:

«Η ΚΑΕ Προμηθέας Βίκος Cola βρίσκεται στην ευχάριστη θέση να ανακοινώσει την πρόσληψη του προπονητή Curro Segura, ο οποίος θα καθοδηγήσει την ομάδα μας για το υπόλοιπο της σεζόν, μετά την αποχώρηση του Γιώργου Λιμνιάτη.

Ο Curro Segura γεννήθηκε στις 7 Απριλίου του 1972 στην Γρανάδα της Ισπανίας. Από νεαρή ηλικία ασχολήθηκε με την προπονητική, αφού μόλις στα 22 του χρόνια έγινε βοηθός στην Αλμπολέτε, ενώ το 1996-97 είχε την πρώτη του δουλειά ως head coach στην C.B Motral Costa Tropical. Στις αρχές των 00’s ο Segura άρχισε να καθιερώνεται στο υψηλό στερέωμα του ισπανικού μπάσκετ και να αναλαμβάνει πάγκους ομάδων όπως η Τενερίφη (2001-02), η Μενόρκα (2002-06), η Σαραγόσα (2007-09), η Ομπραντόιρο (2009-10) και η Γρανάδα (2010-11). Τη σεζόν 2012-13 έγινε για μια χρονιά assistant coach σε επίπεδο Ευρωλίγκας για λογαριασμό της Μάλαγα, ενώ αμέσως μετά ανέλαβε την εθνική Κουβέιτ (2014) και επέστρεψε ως head coach για μια τριετία στα πρωταθλήματα Κίνας, Ουρουγουάης και Βενεζουέλας. Τη σεζόν 2017-18 επέστεψε στην Ισπανία, ως assistant coach στην Μπασκόνια, ενώ την επόμενη διετία (2018-20) εργάστηκε ξανά ως πρώτος προπονητής στη χώρα του, για λογαριασμό της Ρεάλ Μπέτις. Τη σεζόν 2021-22 δούλεψε για πρώτη φορά στην καριέρα του στην Ελλάδα για λογαριασμό του Ιωνικού, ενώ στα τελειώματά της ανέλαβε την ΑΕΚ. Το 2022-23 δούλεψε στην ισπανική Σαν Πάμπλο Μπούργκος, πριν επιστρέψει ξανά στην GBL, για λογαριασμό του Κολοσσού Ρόδου, με τον οποίον κατέλαβε την 6η θέση και τον οδήγησε για πρώτη φορά στην ιστορία του στα ευρωπαϊκά σαλόνια του Basketball Champions League. Πέρυσι εργάστηκε στην Αίγυπτο, για λογαριασμό της Ζάμελεκ, ενώ πριν από λίγες ημέρες πήρε το ”χρίσμα” του ομοσπονδιακού τεχνικού στην εθνική ομάδα της Βενεζουέλας.
