Even though they fought until the last seconds, Panionios lost in a shootout, 79-81, to Bourg in France for the 12th matchday of the second group of the EuroCup, staying at 1-11 in last place and with only mathematical hopes against the leader of the group, which went to 11-1.

With Nikos Karagiannis in place of Elias Zouros, the "blue-reds" fought in all four periods, reaching the lead by +8 in the first and in the derby in the fourth period, Tsalbouris missed a three-pointer in the exhalation.

The French were led by Gats with 22, Mokoka with 12 and McGee with 11 points. For the "blue-reds", Kruzer stood out with 16, Lewis with 14, Watson, Lemon with 12 and Tsalbouris with 11 points.

The match

Burg had 8/13 two-pointers, 5/16 three-pointers, 5/9 shots and 18 rebounds. Panionios had 12/21 two-pointers, 3/10 three-pointers, 3/7 shots and 15 rebounds.

The lead was constantly changing at the start of the third period, but Mokoka with a personal 4-0 run helped Burg to 6-0 and 46-40. Panionios found the solutions and reduced to -1, but Burg's consecutive three-pointers made a run for +7. The "blue-reds" responded with a 6-0 run and reduced to 55-54. A 5-0 run by Burg brought the lead to 62-56 for 64-59 at the end of the thirty minutes.

The Americans of Panionios made a 4-0 run and reduced it to -1 at the start of the fourth period, but Gats with a personal 4-0 run brought it to 69-63. Burg maintained the +4 with +5 afterwards, despite the efforts of the Americans of the "blue-reds", with Lemon reducing it to 74-71. Gats made it 77-71, but a 5-0 run by the Neosmyrnaites reduced it to 77-76. Consecutive three-pointers from both sides brought it to 80-79. Lewis missed a three-pointer in the 8'', Kokila won a foul and hit a shot at 81-79, but Tsalbouris missed a shot of desperation in the last seconds and Panionios remained within one victory.

Πάλεψε μέχρι τέλους, όμως ο Πανιώνιος έχασε από την πρωτοπόρο του δεύτερου ομίλου του EuroCup, Μπουργκ, 81-79 στη Γαλλία για τη 12η αγωνιστική, μένοντας στη μια νίκη.

Έστω κι αν πάλεψε μέχρι τα τελευταία δευτερόλεπτα, ο Πανιώνιος έχασε στο σουτ, 79-81, από την Μπουργκ στη Γαλλία για τη 12η αγωνιστική του δεύτερου ομίλου του EuroCup, μένοντας στο 1-11 στην τελευταία θέση και με μαθηματικές μόνο ελπίδες κόντρα στην πρωτοπόρο του γκρουπ, η οποία πήγε στο 11-1.

Με τον Νίκο Καραγιάννη στη θέση του Ηλία Ζούρου, οι «κυανέρυθροι» πάλεψαν και στις τέσσερις περιόδους, έφτασε να προηγούνται με +8 στην πρώτη και στο ντέρμπι στην τέταρτη περίοδο ο Τσαλμπούρης αστόχησε σε τρίποντα στην εκπνοή.

Κορυφαίοι των Γάλλων ήταν οι Γκατς με 22, Μοκόκα με 12 και ΜακΓκι με 11 πόντους. Για τους «κυανέρυθρους», ξεχώρισαν οι Κρούζερ με 16, Λιούις με 14, Ουότσον, Λέμον με 12 και Τσαλμπούρης με 11 πόντους.

Οι Αμερικανοί του Πανιωνίου έφεραν ένα +6 στους «κυανέρυθρους» στην έναρξη της αναμέτρησης και, με τη βοήθεια του Γόντικα, διατηρούσαν το +5 με +7. Ο Κρούζερ με την απόλυτη ευστοχία από περιφέρεια και ρακέτα έκανε το 12-20 στη λήξη του πρώτου δεκάλεπτου.

Ο Ουότσον έφερε το +10 στην έναρξη της δεύτερης περιόδου, όμως ένα σερί 6-0 των Γάλλων μείωσε 16-22 μέσα στο ελληνικό καλάθι και με νέο σερί 5-0 μείωσαν στο -3. Οι «κυανέυθροι» απάντησαν με σερί 4-0 μέσα στην αντίπαλη ρακέτα κι έφτασαν στο +6, όμως τα τρία συνεχόμενα τρίποντα του ΜακκΓκι και, με τη συμπαράσταση του Μουλαρέ, έφεραν σερί 15-0 στην Μπουργκ και το +8 στους γηπεδούχους. Ο Λιούις βοήθησε σε σερί 8-0 των Νεοσμυρνιωτών για το 36-36 στην ολοκλήρωση του ημιχρόνου.

Ο Λιούις αστόχησε σε τρίποντα στα 8’’, ο Κοκίλα κέρδισε φάουλ και ευστόχησε σε μία βολή σε 81-79, όμως ο Τσαλμπούρης αστόχησε στο σουτ της απελπισίας στα τελευταία δευτερόλεπτα κι ο Πανιώνιος έμεινε στη μία νίκη.
