Panathinaikos will go to Abu Dhabi to defend its title, after it prevailed 75-67 over Efes in Game 5 at the hot OAKA. The protagonist is Cedi Osman with 28 points. The greens will play Fenerbahce in the semi-finals of the Final Four.
Panathinaikos AKTOR will be in Abu Dhabi to defend its title as European champion. The Greens defeated Efes 75-67 at their home ground, the OAKA Stadium, taking the series 3-2 and thus becoming the last team in history to book their spot in the Final Four after Fenerbahce, Olympiacos and Monaco.
Ergin Ataman's team made a fantastic start, leading by as much as 23 points (36-13, 14'23"), but then they had problems, especially when Wenien Gabriel was not on the court, resulting in Luca Banki's total approaching -3 (47-44, 28'30"). However, the Greek and European champions did not bow to the pressure and secured the qualification they so desperately wanted.

Panathinaikos forced Efes into 6 turnovers in the first period, while Cedi Osman closed the first half with 17 points. In the third period, the greens had 1/6 two-pointers, 3/9 three-pointers and 5 turnovers.

The game
Panathinaikos lined up with Grant, Nan, Osman, Hernangomez and Gabriel and took the lead with a double-score (12-6) at 6’30”. At the end of the period the greens were at +8 (18-10, 10′) with the Turkish forward making a tremendous start with 12 points and the Spanish forward collecting 6 rebounds.
Nan took the baton from Osman, scored 8 points until 12’40”, he shot the difference to 18 points (29-11) and made the whole stadium shout “MVP, MVP, MVP”. The maximum value of the difference reached 23 points (36-13, 14’23”), but Efes ran a 13-0 run to reduce it to 36-26 at 18’25”. Grant put the brakes on the guests with a three-pointer (39-26). Finally, the clover went to the locker room ahead by 11 points (41-30, 20′).
After 2 half-fruitless minutes at the beginning of the third period, Smits reduced the difference to single digits (41-33). Luca Banki's team managed to get within 3 points (47-44, 28'30"), as Panathinaikos threw away one attack after another.
Mitoglou scored 5 important points to help the clover enter the fourth quarter with a 7-point lead (53-46, 30').
Nan and Gabriel made it 57-48, but Efes responded immediately for 57-53 (33'50"). Osman and Sloukas made it 61-53 just before the middle of the fourth period. A three-pointer by Larkin brought the visitors to -7 (63-58) in the 37th minute. Nunn scored for 65-58, but Larkin made another three-pointer for 65-61. Grant made a basket for 67-61 at 38’20”. Dozier missed two free throws and Grant made a basket for 69-61 at 68″ before the end. Osman made 2/2 from the line and signed the victory-qualification of Panathinaikos.

Οι πράσινοι επικράτησαν της Εφές με 75-67 στο φρούριό τους, στο καμίνι του ΟΑΚΑ, έκαναν το 3-2 στη μεταξύ τους σειρά και έγιναν έτσι η τελευταία χρονικά ομάδα που τσεκάρει το εισιτήριό της για το Final Four μετά τη Φενέρμπαχτσε, τον Ολυμπιακό και τη Μονακό.
Η ομάδα του Εργκίν Αταμάν έκανε εκπληκτικό ξεκίνημα, βρέθηκα να προηγείται μέχρι και με 23 πόντους (36-13, 14’23”), όμως μετά εμφάνισε προβλήματα, ειδικά όταν δεν ήταν στο παρκέ ο Γουένιεν Γκέιμπριελ, με αποτέλεσμα να δει το σύνολο του Λούκα Μπάνκι να πλησιάζει στο -3 (47-44, 28’30”). Οι πρωταθλητές Ελλάδας και Ευρώπης δεν λύγισαν όμως από την πίεση και πήραν την πρόκριση που τόσο ήθελαν.

Ο Παναθηναϊκός υποχρέωσε την Εφές σε 6 λάθη στην πρώτη περίοδο, ενώ ο Τζέντι Όσμαν έκλεισε το πρώτο μέρος με 17 πόντους. Στην τρίτη περίοδο οι πράσινοι είχαν 1/6 δίποντα, 3/9 τρίποντα και 5 λάθη.

Ο Παναθηναϊκός παρατάχθηκε με Γκραντ, Ναν, Όσμαν, Ερνανγκόμεθ και Γκέιμπριελ και προηγήθηκε με double-score (12-6) στο 6’30”. Στο φινάλε της περιόδου οι πράσινοι ήταν στο +8 (18-10, 10′) με τον Τούρκο φόργουορντ να κάνει τρομερή εκκίνηση με 12 πόντους και τον Ισπανό φόργουορντ να μαζεύει 6 ριμπάουντ.
Ο Ναν πήρε τη σκυτάλη από τον Όσμαν, έβαλε 8 μαζεμένους πόντους μέχρι το 12’40”, εκτόξευσε τη διαφορά στους 18 πόντους (29-11) και έκανε όλο το γήπεδο να φωνάζει “MVP, MVP, MVP”. Η μέγιστη τιμή της διαφοράς έφτασε στους 23 πόντους (36-13, 14’23”), όμως η Εφές έτρεξε σερί 13-0 για να μειώσει σε 36-26 στο 18’25”. Ο Γκραντ έβαλε φρένο στους φιλοξενούμενους με ένα τρίποντο (39-26). Τελικά το τριφύλλι πήγε στα αποδυτήρια προηγούμενο με 11 πόντους (41-30, 20′).
Μετά από 2 μισή άκαρπα λεπτά στο ξεκίνημα της τρίτης περιόδου ο Σμιτς έριξε τη διαφορά σε μονοψήφιο επίπεδο (41-33). Η ομάδα του Λούκα Μπάνκι κατάφερε να πλησιάσει σε απόσταση 3 πόντων (47-44, 28’30”), αφού ο Παναθηναϊκός πετούσε στα σκουπίδια τη μία επίθεση μετά την άλλη.
Ο Μήτογλου έβαλε 5 σημαντικούς πόντους για να βοηθήσει το τριφύλλι να μπει στο τέταρτο δεκάλεπτο με ένα προβάδισμα της τάξης των 7 πόντων (53-46, 30′).
Ναν και Γκέιμπριελ έγραψαν το 57-48, όμως η Εφές απάντησε άμεσα για το 57-53 (33’50”). Όσμαν και Σλούκας διαμόρφωσαν το 61-53 λίγο πριν τα μέσα της τέταρτης περιόδου. Ένα τρίποντο του Λάρκιν έφερε τους φιλοξενούμενους στο -7 (63-58) στο 37′. Ο Ναν σκόραρε για το 65-58, όμως ο Λάρκιν έβαλε νέο τρίποντο για το 65-61. Ο Γκραντ πέτυχε καλάθι για το 67-61 στο 38’20”.
