Carlos Alcaraz also overcame the obstacle of Jack Draper and qualified for the first time in his career in the semifinals of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, confirming that he is in excellent condition. The Spaniard prevailed with 2-0 sets (6-4, 6-4) in 1 hour and 38 minutes on the main court of Rome, in a match that had many ups and downs, but in the end he found the winner.

The 22-year-old overturned a 2-4 deficit in the first set and, despite losing the lead early in the second, managed to impose his rhythm at crucial points, with aggression and a variety of strokes in his game. Sometimes from the baseline with his strong forehand and dropshots and sometimes from the net, Alcarath turned the situation around - as he did against Katsanov - and got his ticket to the "4".

"The most important thing today was that I didn't think too much about the strokes or the score. I just tried to play in a way that pleases me: aggressively, with dropshots, ups at the net. That helped me a lot", said the Spanish champion after the match.

With this victory, Alcaraz reached 28 this year, a performance that is the highest on the Tour, while at the same time securing his rise to No. 2 in the world rankings, surpassing Alexander Zverev. As a result, he will also be the No.2 seed at Roland Garros, avoiding the leader Yannick Sinner until the final!

In the semifinals in Rome, he will face either the defending champion, Alexander Zverev, or the Italian Lorenzo Muzzetti. Alcaraz, however, seems to be picking up speed at the right time, in view of Roland Garros, where he will go as the defending champion and with aspirations for something even greater.

Ο Ισπανός επικράτησε με 2-0 σετ (6-4, 6-4) σε 1 ώρα και 38 λεπτά στο κεντρικό court της Ρώμης, σε έναν αγώνα που είχε πολλά σκαμπανεβάσματα, αλλά στο τέλος τον βρήκε νικητή.

Ο 22χρονος ανέτρεψε το εις βάρος του 2-4 στο πρώτο σετ και παρότι έχασε νωρίς το προβάδισμα στο δεύτερο, κατάφερε να επιβάλει τον ρυθμό του στα κρίσιμα σημεία, με επιθετικότητα και ποικιλία χτυπημάτων στο παιχνίδι του. Πότε από τη βασική γραμμή με το δυνατό του forehand και τα dropshots και πότε από το φιλέ, ο Αλκαράθ ανέτρεψε την κατάσταση -όπως έκανε και κόντρα στον Κατσάνοφ- και πήρε το εισιτήριο για τους «4».

«Το πιο σημαντικό σήμερα ήταν ότι δεν σκέφτηκα πολύ τα χτυπήματα ή το σκορ. Απλά προσπάθησα να παίξω με τρόπο που με ευχαριστεί: επιθετικά, με dropshots, ανεβάσματα στο φιλέ. Αυτό με βοήθησε πολύ», δήλωσε μετά τον αγώνα ο Ισπανός πρωταθλητής.

Με αυτή τη νίκη ο Αλκαράθ έφτασε τις 28 φέτος, επίδοση που αποτελεί την κορυφαία στο Tour, ενώ ταυτόχρονα εξασφάλισε την άνοδό του στο Νο.2 της παγκόσμιας κατάταξης, ξεπερνώντας τον Αλεξάντερ Ζβέρεφ. Ως αποτέλεσμα, θα είναι και το Νο.2 στο ταμπλό του Roland Garros, αποφεύγοντας τον πρωτοπόρο Γιανίκ Σίνερ μέχρι τον τελικό!

Στα ημιτελικά της Ρώμης, θα αντιμετωπίσει είτε τον υπερασπιστή του τίτλου, Αλεξάντερ Ζβέρεφ, είτε τον Ιταλό Λορέντσο Μουζέτι. Ο Αλκαράθ πάντως δείχνει να ανεβάζει στροφές την κατάλληλη στιγμή, ενόψει και του Roland Garros, όπου θα πάει ως υπερασπιστής του τίτλου και με βλέψεις για κάτι ακόμα μεγαλύτερο.
