Με τον Ντίλον Μπρουκς να σκοράρει 39 πόντους, ο Καναδάς νίκησε τις ΗΠΑ στην παράταση (127-118) και κατέκτησε την τρίτη θέση στο Παγκόσμιο Κύπελλο 2023.

Ήταν το ματς των απογοητευμένων. Το ματς των δύο ομάδων που είχαν στόχο το τρόπαιο. Έντουαρντς με 24, Ριβς με 23 και Μπρίτζες με 19 πόντους, αλλά και με το τρίποντο μετά από επιθετικό ριμπάουντ που έστειλε τον αγώνα στο έξτρα πεντάλεπτο, ήταν οι πρώτοι σκόρερ των Αμερικανών που έπαιξαν χωρίς τους ασθενείς Μπράντον Ίνγκραμ, Πάολο Μπανκέρο, Τζάρεν Τζάκσον.

Ο αγώνας

Αν και το ξεκίνημα των Αμερικανών στο ματς δεν ήταν καλό, αν και βρέθηκαν να χάνουν με διψήφια διαφορά, έκαναν σπουδαία δουλειά στις αρχές της δεύτερης περιόδου και με κορυφαίους τους Ριβς - Πόρτις ισορρόπησαν το παιχνίδι και πέρασαν και μπροστά με 40-36. Τόσο γερά, που το ένα μεγάλο καλάθι απαντούσε στο άλλο, με τον Μπρουκς να βάζει βολές για το 107-111, πριν ο Μπρίτζες αστοχήσει στη δεύτερη βολή του, πάρει το επιθετικό ριμπάουντ και πάει στη γωνία για να σκοράρει για τρεις μέσα σε παροξυσμό.

Το παιχνίδι πήγε στην παράταση, γιατί έτσι έπρεπε, γιατί αυτό άξιζε ο κόσμος στη Μανίλα και σε όλο το μπασκετικό πλανήτη. Απλώς εκεί ο πληγωμένος Καναδάς είχε περισσότερη αυτοπεποίθηση και καθάρισε εύκολα το παιχνίδι.
