Από την... κόλαση στο παράδεισο η Ομόνοια, η οποία με μια επική ανατροπή στο δεύτερο ημίχρονο έφερε τούμπα το ντέρμπι με την ΑΕΛ (2-1), κάνοντας ένα τεράστιο βήμα για τον τίτλο!

Με ψυχή πρωταθλήτριας, η ομάδα του Χένινγκ Μπεργκ δεν λύγισε όταν βρέθηκε από νωρίς πίσω στο σκορ με το γκολ του Εμαέ στο 9', αυξάνοντας ολοένα και περισσότερο την πίεσή της όσο περνούσε η ώρα. Στις αρχές του δευτέρου ημιχρόνου και συγκεκριμένα στο 49ο λεπτό, «το τριφύλλι» έφερε το παιχνίδι στα ίσα με ωραίο βολέ στην κίνηση του Μποτεάκ. Στη συνέχεια το ματς έγινε «ροντέο» με εκατέρωθεν ευκαιρίες. Εκείνοι όμως που χαμογέλασαν στο τέλος ήταν οι γηπεδούχοι, αφού με τη συμπλήρωση των 90' ο Τζιωνής με όμορφο πλασέ έκανε την ολική ανατροπή!

Αποτέλεσμα που ουσιαστικά καταδίκασε τις όποιες ελπίδες είχε η ΑΕΛ για τον τίτλο, αφού πλέον έμεινε στο -7 από την κορυφή, εκεί όπου βρίσκεται η Ομόνοια, η οποία με τη σειρά της διατήρησε αυτό το +3 από τον δεύτερο Απόλλωνα Λεμεσού.

Στο άλλο παιχνίδι της ημέρας, ο Ολυμπιακός Λευκωσίας έφυγε με τεράστιο διπλό από την έδρα της Ανόρθωσης (0-2), σε ματς... προάγγελο του τελικού του Κυπέλλου, καθώς στις 8 Μαΐου οι δύο ομάδες θα διεκδικήσουν το τρόπαιο και το εισιτήριο για το Conference League της νέας σεζόν.

Η ομάδα του Τιμούρ Κετσπάγια ήταν καλύτερη καθ' όλη τη διάρκεια του αγώνα, ωστόσο οι «μαυροπράσινοι» εκμεταλλεύτηκαν στο έπακρο τα λάθη των γηπεδούχων, ανοίγοντας το σκορ στο 39' με αυτογκόλ του Βργκοτς, ενώ στο 71' με όμορφη ατομική προσπάθεια του Χαραλάμπους διαμόρφωσαν το τελικό σκορ. Έτσι πανηγύρισαν ένα ιστορικό τρίποντο, αφού η αποψινή νίκη ήταν η μόλις δεύτερή της στο «Αντώνης Παπαδόπουλος» και πρώτη μετά τη σεζόν τη σεζόν 1987-88.
