Higher, more prepared, tougher and more determined, the Pacers easily defeated the Bucks (117-98) for 1-0 in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. Giannis Antetokounmpo had a double-double, but alone.

The first battle of the series was not exactly a battle. The Pacers easily defeated the Bucks (117-98), made it 1-0 and put even more pressure on Milwaukee, which will have six chances for the four positive results to qualify for the Eastern Conference playoffs semifinals.

Alone against everyone, Giannis Antetokounmpo (36 points, 12 rebounds in 38 minutes) who twisted his ankle but didn't give up, didn't get anything from Torian Prince and Kyle Kuzma who were disappointing and hopes that starting from Game 2 he will have Damian Lillard by his side again. Otherwise, the mountain he and Milwaukee will have to climb will be even higher. AJ Green and Gary Trent did everything they could, followed by Kevin Porter, but all this when the match was decided. The Pacers, for their part, did not forget the 1-3 of the regular season, had plurality, efficiency in the racket and above all were careful not to waste many possessions. Tyrese Halliburton didn't shine, but Nemhardt, Mathurin, Siakam and Turner did the job and did it easily, "investing" many and hard fouls on the best player in the series to limit him, as much as possible.

Antetokounmpo's report

The Pacers sent a second player on his first contact with the ball, but he scored with a fadeaway for 3-4 and finished the next phase near the basket. He made a third basket before the three-minute mark, continued with 3/4 shots, quickly reached 11 points, won one foul after another and went to the bench for the first breaths after ten minutes in the red.

He returned 8:38 before halftime with a difference of seven (41-34), but the team defense was not there. Every attack he made was an opportunity for the Pacers to pull his hands, jersey, whatever they could get their hands on. At halftime he had 19 points from 7/10 two-pointers and 5/11 shots, five rebounds and just one assist, with his team counting 2/16 three-pointers.

He entered the second half calmly, turned his ankle and stayed in the game, but the scales had already tipped in favor of the Pacers, who had been flirting with a +30 lead since early on. He continued to play alone against everyone, reaching 31/10 towards the end of the third and hoping that those around him would do something to get him back in the fourth. He returned 9:47 before the end with a 19-point lead, he was unstoppable, but the game was lost.

Green and Trent made shots to reduce the deficit to 12 (107-95), he blocked Nemhardt twice in the same phase, but Green missed two very crucial shots and missed the opportunity to put more pressure on the home team.

Ανώτεροι, πιο έτοιμοι, πιο σκληροί και αποφασιστικοί, οι Πέισερς νίκησαν εύκολα τους Μπακς (117-98) για το 1-0 στη σειρά του α’ γύρου των playoffs της Ανατολής. Double-double ο Γιάννης Αντετοκούνμπο, αλλά μόνος.

Η πρώτη μάχη της σειράς, δεν ήταν ακριβώς μάχη. Οι Πέισερς νίκησαν εύκολα τους Μπακς (117-98), έκαναν το 1-0 και έβαλαν ακόμη περισσότερη πίεση στο Μιλγουόκι που θα έχει έξι ευκαιρίες για τα τέσσερα θετικά αποτελέσματα για την πρόκριση στα ημιτελικά των playoffs της Ανατολικής Περιφέρειας.

Μόνος εναντίον όλων ο Γιάννης Αντετοκούνμπο (36 πόντοι, 12 ριμπάουντ σε 38 λεπτά) που γύρισε τον αστράγαλό του αλλά δεν το έβαλε κάτω, δεν πήρε τίποτα από Τόριαν Πρινς και Κάιλ Κούζμα που ήταν απογοητευτικοί και ελπίζει ότι αρχής γενομένης από το Game 2 θα έχει και πάλι δίπλα του τον Ντέιμιαν Λίλαρντ. Διαφορετικά το βουνό που θα πρέπει να ανέβει εκείνος και το Μιλγουόκι θα είναι ακόμα πιο ψηλό. Έι Τζέι Γκριν και Γκάρι Τρεντ έκαναν ό,τι μπορούσαν, ακολούθησε κι ο Κέβιν Πόρτερ, όλα αυτά όμως όταν το ματς είχε κριθεί.

Οι Πέισερς, από την πλευρά τους, δεν ξέχασαν το 1-3 της κανονικής περιόδου, είχαν πλουραλισμό, αποτελεσματικότητα στη ρακέτα και πάνω απ’ όλα ήταν προσεκτικοί για να μη σπαταλήσουν πολλές κατοχές. Ο Ταϊρίς Χαλιμπάρτον δεν έλαμψε, ωστόσο Νέμχαρντ, Μάθουριν, Σιάκαμ και Τέρνερ έκαναν τη δουλειά και την έκαναν και εύκολα, “επενδύοντας” πολλά και σκληρά φάουλ στον καλύτερο παίκτη της σειράς για να τον περιορίσουν, όσο αυτό μπορούσε να γίνει.

Ο απολογισμός του Αντετοκούνμπο

Οι Πέισερς έστειλαν δεύτερο παίκτη από την πρώτη του επαφή με τη μπάλα, εκείνος όμως σκόραρε με fadeaway για το 3-4 και τελείωσε την επόμενη φάση κοντά στο καλάθι. Έβαλε και τρίτο καλάθι πριν συμπληρωθεί το τρίλεπτο, συνέχισε με 3/4 βολές, έφτασε γρήγορα τους 11 πόντους, κέρδιζε το ένα φάουλ πίσω από το άλλο και πήγε στον πάγκο για τις πρώτες ανάσες μετά από δέκα λεπτά στα κόκκινα.

Γύρισε 8:38 πριν από το ημίχρονο με τη διαφορά στους επτά (41-34), όμως η ομαδική άμυνα δεν ήταν εκεί. Κάθε επέλασή του ήταν μία ευκαιρία για να του τραβούν οι Πέισερς χέρια, φανέλα, ό,τι τέλος πάντων μπορούσαν να πιάσουν. Στο ημίχρονο είχε 19 πόντους από 7/10 δίποντα και 5/11 βολές, πέντε ριμπάουντ και μόλις μία ασίστ, με την ομάδα του να μετράει 2/16 τρίποντα.

Μπήκε στο δεύτερο μέρος με ψυχραιμία, γύρισε τον αστράγαλό του και έμεινε στο ματς, όμως η ζυγαριά είχε ήδη γείρει προς τους Πέισερς που φλέρταραν από νωρίς με το +30. Συνέχισε να παίζει μόνος εναντίον όλων, έφτασε το 31/10 προς τα τέλη της τρίτης και ήλπιζε ότι οι γύρω του κάτι θα κάνουν για να επιστρέψει στην τέταρτη. Γύρισε 9:47 πριν από το φινάλε με τη διαφορά στους 19, ήταν ασταμάτητος, αλλά το ματς είχε χαθεί.

Γκριν και Τρεντ έβαλαν σουτ για να μειώσουν στους 12 (107-95), μπλόκαρε δύο φορές τον Νέμχαρντ στην ίδια φάση, όμως ο Γκριν αστόχησε σε δύο πολύ κρίσιμα σουτ και έχασε την ευκαιρία να βάλει περισσότερη πίεση στους γηπεδούχους.
