Simeone: "The Martin incident was a clear mistake, I hope the referees explain it to us"
Diego Simeone referred to the controversial incident with the yellow card to Martin, emphasizing that the referees' decision worked against his team.
Diego Simeone called on the Spanish refereeing committee to explain a critical refereeing decision, after Atletico Madrid's 1-2 home defeat to Barcelona for the 30th matchday of La Liga.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, the Rojiblancos coach publicly expressed his opposition to the controversial moment with Martin's red card, which was downgraded to a yellow card by VAR, stating: "We hope that the Arbitration Committee (CTA) will be able to explain the moment better and clarify what the intention was." The Argentine coach also felt that the game was significantly affected by Gonzalez's sending off shortly before the first-half break, insisting: "The first half was very good until the red card. In the second half, with one player less and many young players, we managed to compete well, but that was it." Cholo also questioned the nature of the referees' decision, stressing: "As soon as (Martin) made the tackle, it was clear that it was at least a yellow card. I don't think it was a straight red, but it was definitely red. I saw yellow, yellow and then red. We were walking and he told me it was yellow, yellow, red".
Finally, Simeone noted that the referees made the wrong decision and asked for it to be revoked, as had happened in a match last February, when the refereeing committee admitted that there was a red card in the Betis match against Rayo Vallecano that was wrongly not given.
"The moment is clear, we hope the refereeing committee sees it correctly the next time something similar happens. The referees made a clear mistake".

Μιλώντας στη συνέντευξη Τύπου μετά τον αγώνα, ο προπονητής των ροχιμπλάνκος εξέφρασε δημόσια την αντίθεση του στην επίμαχη φάση με τη κόκκινη κάρτα του Μαρτίν, η οποία με τη χρήση του VAR υποβαθμίστηκε σε κίτρινη, δηλώνοντας: «Ελπίζουμε ότι η Επιτροπή Διατησίας (CTA) θα μπορέσει να εξηγήσει τη φάση καλύτερα και να διευκρινίσει ποιά ήταν η πρόθεση».
Ο Αργεντινός τεχνικός ένιωσε επίσης ότι το παιχνίδι επηρεάστηκε αρκετά από την αποβολή του Γκονζάλες λίγο πριν την ανάπαυλα του πρώτου ημιχρόνου, επιμένοντας πως: «Το πρώτο ημίχρονο ήταν πολύ καλό μέχρι τη κόκκινη. Στο δεύτερο ημίχρονο, με έναν παίκτη λιγότερο και πολλούς νεαρούς, καταφέραμε να αγωνιστούμε καλά, αλλά μέχρι εκεί».
Ο Τσόλο αμφισβήτησε ακόμη τη φύση της απόφασης των διαιτητών τονίζοντας ότι: «Μόλις (ο Μαρτίν) έκανε το τάκλιν, ήταν σαφές ότι ήταν τουλάχιστον κίτρινη κάρτα. Δεν νομίζω ότι ήταν απευθείας κόκκινη, αλλά σίγουρα ήταν κόκκινη. Είδα κίτρινο, κίτρινο και μετά κόκκινο. Περπατούσαμε και μου είπε ότι ήταν κίτρινο, κίτρινο, κόκκινο».
Τέλος, ο Σιμεόνε σημείωσε πως οι διαιτητές πήραν λανθασμένη απόφαση και ζήτησε να ανακαλέσουν, όπως είχε συμβεί σε ένα ματς του περασμένου Φεβρουαρίου, όταν η επιτροπή διαιτησίας παραδέχθηκε ότι υπήρχε κόκκινη κάρτα στον αγώνα της Μπέτις με τη Ράγιο Βαγιεκάνο που λανθασμένα δεν δόθηκε.
«Η φάση είναι ξεκάθαρη, ελπίζουμε η επιτροπή διαιτησίας να τη δει σωστά την επόμενη φορά που θα συμβεί κάτι παρόμοιο. Οι διαιτητές έκαναν ξεκάθαρο λάθος».

Οι διατητές της αναμέτρησης πάντως στον διάλογο με το VAR που δημοσιοποιήθηκε, θεώησαν πως το πόδι του νεαρού παίκτη των «Μπλαουγκράνα» κάνει φυσική κίνηση και ως εκ τούτου θεωρείται ακούσιο και δεν μπορεί να τιμωρηθεί με κόκκινη κάρτα.
«Κατά τη γνώμη μου, είναι μια ενέργεια όπου ο παίκτης της Μπαρτσελόνα παίζει την μπάλα κανονικά, ένα φυσιολογικό μέρος του παιχνιδιού, και στη συνέχεια η επαφή με τον παίκτη της Ατλέτικο συμβαίνει φυσικά».
