First and best in the EuroLeague regular season, Olympiacos defeated Armani Milano (85-76) on Thursday night (16/4) and goes into the playoffs with the best possible psychology.

Piraeus closed the biggest marathon in the history of the competition with a score of 26-12 (16-3 home and 10-9 away), with Sasha Vezenkov scoring in a flurry, with Tyler Dorsey and Nikola Milutinov (13 points, 14 rebounds, first rebounder of the season) supporting him excellently, with several helping and combining spectacle with substance.

Armani Milano (11-8 home and 6-13 away) fell to 17-21, which did not have a good image at the Peace and Friendship Stadium and closed its season in a lukewarm manner. Apart from Savon Shields, who played stubbornly and received a technical penalty, there was no one else on a good night.

MVP

Nikola Milutinov had to have a big game to be named the season's top rebounder. And he did. He grabbed 15 "garbage", passed Jaylen Hord and scored 13 points. He was Olympiacos' top scorer, on a night he needed it.

The match

With Walkup, Dorsey, Ward, Vezenkov, Milutinov, Olympiacos opened the match, getting a lot from Dorsey (11-2 in 3′) and went to +10 (15-5) in the fourth minute. Poeta called a timeout and this resulted in a 4-13 for the Italians who reduced the score to a point (19-18 at 8′), with the home team closing the quarter at +3 (26-23) thanks to their offense, which was working well.

Bartzokas opened the second period with Joseph, McKissick, Fournier, Peters, Hall, saw his ace score five runs for 31-24 and in the 15th minute he took him out to put the 11th in the rotation, Papanikolaou. This formation did not have a clear playmaker, with McKissick playing on the ace, but not for long. Two three-pointers by Armani tied the score at 45-45, but Dorsey closed the first half with a difficult mid-range shot for +2.

At the beginning of the second half, Vezenkov scored in a flurry, made a three-pointer for 59-48 in the 24th minute, and shortly after, Piraeus was also at +17 (65-48). The Italians responded with a 0-7 run, but they did not manage anything more. The 68-55 at the end of the third period put Olympiacos close to victory.

At 35′, Bartzokas again put Vezenkov and Milutinov, but Olympiacos went from +20 (79-59) to +8 (79-71) as Armani ran an impressive 0-12 in a few possessions. Milutinov continued to collect rebounds like a sore thumb, made 2/2 shots for 83-71 and definitively decided the match, with the red and whites closing the regular period the way they wanted.

Με εντυπωσιακά διαστήματα και με κορυφαίους τους Βεζένκοβ, Μιλουτίνοβ, Ντόρσεϊ, ο Ολυμπιακός νίκησε την Αρμάνι Μιλάνο (85-76) και τερμάτισε για τρίτη φορά τα τελευταία τέσσερα χρόνια στην πρώτη θέση της κανονικής περιόδου της EuroLeague.

Πρώτος και καλύτερος στην κανονική περίοδο της EuroLeague, ο Ολυμπιακός νίκησε το βράδυ της Πέμπτης (16/4) την Αρμάνι Μιλάνο (85-76) και πηγαίνει στα playoffs με την καλύτερη δυνατή ψυχολογία.

Οι Πειραιώτες έκλεισαν τον μεγαλύτερο μαραθώνιο στην ιστορία της διοργάνωσης με 26-12 (16-3 εντός και 10-9 εκτός έδρας), με τον Σάσα Βεζένκοβ να σκοράρει κατά ριπάς, με τον Τάιλερ Ντόρσεϊ και τον Νίκολα Μιλουτίνοβ  (13 πόντοι, 14 ριμπάουντ, πρώτος ριμπάουντερ στη σεζόν) να τον υποστηρίζουν άριστα, με αρκετούς να βοηθούν και να συνδυάζουν το θέαμα με την ουσία.

Στο 17-21 έπεσε η Αρμάνι Μιλάνο (11-8 εντός και 6-13 εκτός έδρας), η οποία δεν είχε καλή εικόνα στο Στάδιο Ειρήνης και Φιλίας και έκλεισε με χλιαρό τρόπο τη σεζόν της. Εκτός από τον Σαβόν Σιλντς, που έπαιξε με πείσμα και δέχθηκε και τεχνική ποινή, δεν υπήρχε άλλος σε καλή βραδιά. 

O MVP

Ο Νίκολα Μιλουτίνοβ έπρεπε να κάνει ένα μεγάλο ματς για να αναδειχθεί κορυφαίος ριμπάουντερ στη σεζόν. Και το έκανε. Πήρε 15 “σκουπίδια”, πέρασε τον Τζέιλεν Χορντ και έβαλε και 13 πόντους. Ήταν ο κορυφαίος του Ολυμπιακού, σε μια βραδιά που είχε ανάγκη.

Ο αγώνας

Με Γουόκαπ, Ντόρσεϊ, Γουορντ, Βεζένκοβ, Μιλουτίνοβ άνοιξε το ματς ο Ολυμπιακός, που πήρε πολλά από τον Ντόρσεϊ (11-2 στο 3′) και πήγε στο +10 (15-5) στο τέταρτο λεπτό. Ο Ποέτα κάλεσε timeout και από αυτό προέκυψε ένα 4-13 των Ιταλών που μείωσαν στον πόντο (19-18 στο 8′), με τους γηπεδούχους να κλείνουν το δεκάλεπτο στο +3 (26-23) χάρη στην επίθεσή τους, η οποία λειτουργούσε καλά.

Ο Μπαρτζώκας άνοιξε τη δεύτερη περίοδο με Τζόσεφ, ΜακΚίσικ, Φουρνιέ, Πίτερς, Χολ, είδε τον άσο του να σκοράρει πέντε σερί για το 31-24 και στο 15′ τον έβγαλε για να βάλει τον 11ο στο ροτέισον Παπανικολάου. Αυτό το σχήμα δεν είχε καθαρό πλέι μέικερ, με τον ΜακΚίσικ να παίζει στον άσο, όχι όμως για πολύ. Δύο τρίποντα της Αρμάνι έγραψαν το 45-45, όμως ο Ντόρσεϊ έκλεισε το πρώτο μέρος με δύσκολο mid-range σουτ για το +2.

Στις αρχές του β’ μέρους ο Βεζένκοβ σκόραρε κατά ριπάς, έβαλε τρίποντο για το 59-48 στο 24′ και λίγο μετά οι Πειραιώτες βρέθηκαν και στο +17 (65-48). Οι Ιταλοί απάντησαν με σερί 0-7, αλλά δεν κατάφεραν κάτι περισσότερο. Το 68-55 στο τέλος της τρίτης περιόδου, έβαζε τον Ολυμπιακό κοντά στην νίκη.

Στο 35′ ο Μπαρτζώκας έβαλε ξανά Βεζένκοβ και Μιλουτίνοβ, όμως ο Ολυμπιακός από το +20 (79-59) βρέθηκε στο +8 (79-71) καθώς η Αρμάνι έτρεξε ένα εντυπωσιακό 0-12 μέσα σε λίγες κατοχές. Ο Μιλουτίνοβ συνέχισε να μαζεύει τα ριμπάουντ σαν στραγάλια, έβαλε 2/2 βολές για το 83-71 και έκρινε οριστικά τον αγώνα, με τους ερυθρόλευκους να κλείνουν την κανονική περίοδο με τον τρόπο που ήθελαν.
