Messi surpasses Pele in goals from direct free kicks
Messi scored the 901st goal of his career in Inter Miami's victory against New York City and surpassed Pele in goals from direct free kicks.
Inter Miami traveled to New York yesterday to face the homonymous team in the 5th round of the MLS and prevailed 2-3 thanks to goals from Luzan (4'), Messi (61') and Michael (74').
In fact, the Argentine superstar's goal, which was no. 901 of his career, came from a stunning direct free kick, with the ball slightly deflecting on its way to the net. It was the 38-year-old forward's fourth goal in five league games and fifth in all competitions this season.

The goal also marked Messi's 71st career free-kick goal, taking him past Pele for fourth place on the list and now chasing Juninho, who has 72, to become the top three scorers of all time.
