Ferdinand shocks: "Sometimes I need a wheelchair"
The former Manchester United stopper has revealed that injuries he had in his career force him to use a wheelchair today.
One of the top footballers to wear the Manchester United jersey, and for many one of the best stoppers in the history of the Premier League, is Rio Ferdinand.
However, at the top level and to remain at it, the sacrifices are many, as is the physical and mental pain. The Englishman knows this well, as he suffered a number of injuries in his career, which still affect him today.
As he recently revealed to Men's Health UK, although he seems in excellent physical condition, he still faces back problems, which sometimes force him to use a wheelchair.
In fact, he explained that for six years he had been taking medication and injections in order to play in games.
"I've had a problem with my back for a long time. I have injuries that I had from my career... I was taking pills and injections for six years to play games.
This has affected me. I have some bad moments of back pain where I have to be in the hospital for a few days or in a wheelchair for a few days. It's crazy, but it comes out of nowhere."

Ο άλλοτε στόπερ της Μάντσεστερ Γιουνάιτεντ αποκάλυψε πως τραυματισμοί που είχε στην καριέρα του τον αναγκάζουν σήμερα να χρησιμοποιεί αναπηρικό καρότσι.
Ένας από τους κορυφαίους ποδοσφαιριστές που φόρεσαν τη φανέλα της Μάντσεστερ Γιουνάιτεντ, και για πολλούς ένα από τα καλύτερα στόπερ στην ιστορία της Premier League, είναι ο Ρίο Φέρντιναντ.
Ωστόσο, στο κορυφαίο επίπεδο και για να παραμείνεις σε αυτό, οι θυσίες είναι πολλές, όπως και ο σωματικός και ψυχικός πόνος. Ο Άγγλος το γνωρίζει καλά αυτό, καθώς στην καριέρα του υπέστη ορισμένους τραυματισμούς, που μέχρι και σήμερα τον επηρεάζουν.
Όπως αποκάλυψε πρόσφατα στο Men's Health UK, παρότι φαίνεται σε εξαιρετική φυσική κατάσταση, εντούτοις αντιμετωπίζει προβλήματα στην πλάτη, τα οποία ορισμένες φορές τον αναγκάζουν να χρησιμοποιεί ακόμη και αναπηρικό καροτσάκι.
Μάλιστα, εξήγησε πως για έξι χρόνια έπαιρνε φάρμακα και έκανε ενέσεις, προκειμένου να παίζει σε παιχνίδια.
«Έχω πρόβλημα με την πλάτη μου εδώ και πολύ καιρό. Έχω τραυματισμούς που είχα από την καριέρα μου... Έπαιρνα χάπια και ενέσεις για έξι χρόνια για να παίξω αγώνες.
Αυτό με έχει επηρεάσει. Έχω κάποιες άσχημες στιγμές πόνου στην πλάτη όπου πρέπει να βρίσκομαι στο νοσοκομείο για μερικές ημέρες ή σε αναπηρικό καροτσάκι για μερικές ημέρες. Είναι τρελό, αλλά εμφανίζεται από το πουθενά».
