Superior throughout the match, Panathinaikos crushed Olympiacos 79-68 in the Allwyn Final 8 final and won the 22nd Cup in its history. Rogavopoulos, Hayes-Davies, Mitoglou the three who carried the greens. Problem in the middle for Vezenkov.

With Nikos Rogavopoulos and Nigel Hayes-Davies doing an amazing job and with Dinos Mitoglou becoming the x-factor, the greens took the 22nd trophy in the institution and showed that in Crete they overcame the bad period that had plagued them in the previous several weeks.

Piraeus, on the other hand, had a very bad image in both defense and offense. Sasha Vezenkov was unstoppable in the first half, Tyreek Jones in the second, but from there on the rest, except for Walkap, did not help. Bad night from Tyler Dorsey, Olympiacos' percentage from the perimeter is heartbreaking.

Kendrick Nunn will leave Heraklion with shoulder discomfort, while Sasha Vezenkov, who left the game at the end of the third period and did not return to the game, has a back problem.

The match

With Walkup, Dorsey, Ward, Vezenkov, Milutinov, Olympiacos opened the match, with Grant, Nunn, Osman, Hernangomez, Holmes, Panathinaikos had better partnerships and scored 4-9 with two consecutive dunks by its American center.

The Piraeus team relied on Vezenkov to tie the game at 17-17 in the 9th minute, with the Bulgarian reaching 12 points at the end of the period.

With Hayes-Davis “hitting” at the start of the second, Panathinaikos built a six-point lead (25-19 at 13′), before Mitoglou scored five runs for 30-19 at 14′ and Nunn fouled out for 33-19 immediately after.

Hayes-Davis put a lot of pressure on Piraeus, made Rogavopoulos’ three-pointer for the greens’ +17 (45-28 at 19′) and the period belonged entirely to his team that had played great basketball.

Olympiacos opened the second half with Jones at five, with the American making his team more aggressive, but Hayes-Davis stealing and nailing a reverse shot to make it 35-51 at 23′. The American was unstoppable, while Nunn and Holmes each had four fouls from 28′.

Vezenkov hurt his back just before the end of the third period and left, with Panathinaikos in complete control.

The picture of the match did not change at the beginning of the fourth. The greens kept the difference around 20, until Dorsey and Papanikolaou each scored a three-pointer for 65-75 at 35′.

It was a point where Olympiacos showed some momentum, but a two-pointer by Grant for 63-77 in the 36th minute decided the final.

Ανώτερος σε όλο το ματς, ο Παναθηναϊκός πάτησε με 79-68 τον Ολυμπιακό στον τελικό του Allwyn Final 8 και κατέκτησε το 22ο Κύπελλο στην ιστορία του. Ρογκαβόπουλος, Χέιζ-Ντέιβις, Μήτογλου οι τρεις που κουβάλησαν τους πράσινους. Πρόβλημα στη μέση για τον Βεζένκοβ.

Ο δεύτερος τίτλος της σεζόν βάφτηκε πράσινος το βράδυ του Σαββάτου (21/2). Ο Παναθηναϊκός 79-68 τον Ολυμπιακό στον τελικό του Allwyn Final 8 του Κυπέλλου Ελλάδας στο Ηράκλειο και έφτιαξε ακόμη περισσότερο την ψυχολογία του εν όψει της τελικής ευθείας της περιόδου.

Με τον Νίκο Ρογκαβόπουλο και τον Νάιτζελ Χέιζ-Ντέιβις να κάνουν εκπληκτική δουλειά και με τον Ντίνο Μήτογλου να γίνεται x-factor, οι πράσινοι πήραν το 22ο τρόπαιο στον θεσμό και έδειξαν ότι στην Κρήτη ξεπέρασαν το κακό διάστημα που τους ταλαιπώρησε τις προηγούμενες αρκετές εβδομάδες.

Οι Πειραιώτες, από την άλλη, είχαν πολύ κακή εικόνα και στην άμυνα και στην επίθεση. Ο Σάσα Βεζένκοβ ήταν ασταμάτητος στο πρώτο μέρος, ο Ταϊρίκ Τζόουνς στο δεύτερο, από εκεί και πέρα όμως οι υπόλοιποι, πλην Γουόκαπ, δεν βοήθησαν. Κακό βράδυ από τον Τάιλερ Ντόρσεϊ, αποκαρδιωτικό το ποσοστό του Ολυμπιακού από την περιφέρεια.

Με ενοχλήσεις στον ώμο θα φύγει από το Ηράκλειο ο Κέντρικ Ναν, με πρόβλημα στη μέση ο Σάσα Βεζένκοβ που βγήκε από το ματς στα τέλη της τρίτης περιόδου και δεν γύρισε στο ματς.

Ο αγώνας

Με Γουόκαπ, Ντόρσεϊ, Γουορντ, Βεζένκοβ, Μιλουτίνοβ άνοιξε το ματς ο Ολυμπιακός, με Γκραντ, Ναν, Όσμαν, Ερνανγκόμεθ, Χολμς ο Παναθηναϊκός που είχε καλύτερες συνεργασίες και έγραψε το 4-9 με δύο σερί καρφώματα του Αμερικανού σέντερ του.

Οι Πειραιώτες στηρίχθηκαν στον Βεζένκοβ για το 17-17 στο 9′, με τον Βούλγαρο να φτάνει τους 12 πόντους στο φινάλε της περιόδου.

Με τον Χέιζ-Ντέιβις να “χτυπάει” στο ξεκίνημα της δεύτερης, ο Παναθηναϊκός έχτισε προβάδισμα έξι πόντων (25-19 στο 13′), πριν ο Μήτογλου βάλει πέντε σερί για το 30-19 στο 14′ και ο Ναν γκολ-φάουλ για το 33-19 αμέσως μετά.

Ο Χέιζ-Ντέιβις πίεσε πολύ τους Πειραιώτες, έφτιαξε το τρίποντο του Ρογκαβόπουλου για το +17 των πράσινων (45-28 στο 19′) και η περίοδος ανήκε ολοκληρωτικά στην ομάδα του που είχε παίξει σπουδαίο μπάσκετ.

Ο Ολυμπιακός άνοιξε το δεύτερο μέρος με τον Τζόουνς στο πέντε, με τον Αμερικανό να κάνει πιο επιθετική την ομάδα του, αλλά τον Χέιζ-Ντέιβις να κλέβει και να καρφώνει ανάποδα στον αιφνιδιασμό για το 35-51 στο 23′. Ο Αμερικανός ήταν ασταμάτητος, την ώρα που Ναν και Χολμς είχαν από τέσσερα φάουλ από το 28′.

Ο Βεζένκοβ πόνεσε στη μέση λίγο πριν από το τέλος της τρίτης περιόδου και αποχώρησε, με τον Παναθηναϊκό να έχει τον απόλυτο έλεγχο.

Η εικόνα του ματς δεν άλλαξε στις αρχές της τέταρτης. Οι πράσινοι κράτησαν τη διαφορά γύρω από τους 20, μέχρι οι Ντόρσεϊ – Παπανικολάου να βάλουν από ένα τρίποντο για το 65-75 στο 35′.

Ήταν ένα σημείο στο οποίο ο Ολυμπιακός έδειξε να έχει σφυγμό, όμως ένα δίποντο του Γκραντ για το 63-77 στο 36′ έκρινε οριστικά τον τελικό.
